What is the average lifespan of a macbook pro?

I'm really curious because I want my macbook to be useful for a couple of years. I just purchased the newest model out. Does anyone know or have experience of their long life macbook pro's? How long has anyone's macbook pro lasted? And I don't mean by the battery, but the whole laptop. Or in general, what is the average lifespan of a macbook pro?

If you take good care of it, you can get a decade or more out of it.
The LEDs that provide the display backlighting will eventually wear out and need to be replaced. Likewise, the LCD screen itself isn't going to last forever. The point is: for a high-technology product, the MBPs have an incredible lifespan. They're very good laptops.
I have G4 PowerBooks that are 5 years old and still going strong. Apple notebooks are good quality, long-lasting machines.

what is the average lifespan of the mac book

Mine is a 2006 core duo (first ones produced) with 10.6.8 that is used almost daily. It has great value as I can run PPC (Pre Intel) programs through Rosetta. Also I have a printer and a scanner that that I use which are not supported by My MBP with 10.7.
What is old in not automatically obsolete,
and what is new is not necessarily needed.

  • Average lifespan of a Macbook Pro Retina ?

I am just wondering what would be the average lifespan of daily use , wear and tear on a Macbook Pro Retina ? I have known macs to be the most durable things on the planet. I have just purchased a referbished october 2013 13" i5 , 8GB RAM , Iris Graphics … (no nvidia option for the 13" was looking for small size mac packed with power, then limited to my money stash) , 512 GB SSD storage model to replace my 2012 i3 Lenovo laptop that has 1GB nVidia graphics 8GB RAM,500GB storage , which would be given to my parents for Christmas, because they are needing a new computer, and my late 2008 2GHz Intel Macbook, that had been upgraded to 8GB RAM, which i flashed its firmware, since the RAM was somehow maxing out at 4GB… but now uses the full 8GB, to a friend as a gift at the  art studio I work in.
I do a variety of artwork , ranging from drawing in manga studio to photoshop and some 3D manipulation, modelling and rendering, creating music, to editing film, which may include rendering 3D character animations. I am wondering if I am going to max out this little beast, or it would follow the average lifespan of a Macbook ? Then if I consider upgrading it in the future to 16GB RAM, looks like I would have to update the entire logic board, since the RAM is soldered on, do the apple stores compensate for this option that is provide logic board upgrades ? What if they change the design of logic boards in the future ? Extra storage is not a problem, because I can always get a bigger external drive, and SD cards are becoming more capable in storing more stuff..

Here is information on my upgrade from my previous work machine… which is a pc to the mac… as I also had/have a late 2008 macbook, which was actually good bait lol, was impressed by how it ran for an 2008 model of a computer..
    1)Lenovo Think Pad/idea pad (21/10/2011 - release date)
    £800
    Intel i3 CPU 2 cores/4 threads. 2.3 GHz
    Intel Intel® HD Graphics 3000 +
    Nvidia GeForce GT 520M
    RAM 8GB
Storage 500 GB (normal hard drive)
Heavy to carry with bad back from home and to the studio and back.
    New Machine:
    2)Apple Macbook Pro
    £1099
    (xx/10/2013 -release date)
    Intel i5 CPU 2 cores/4 threads. 2.6 GHz
    Intel® Iris™ Graphics 5100
    RAM 8GB
    Storage 512GB flash storage (SSD)
lighter than late 2008 Macbook and easier to carry...
The two old machines are still running and looked after them well, and giving them away as gifts… to those who don't have computers. I always worked with them on a desk surface, so they would not overheat when rendering still 3D artworks and animations, so it should last on average life span then...

  • What is the right charger for a MacBook Pro 13"  mid 2009 model?

What is the right charger for a MacBook Pro 13" mid 2009 model? I have two chargers for two different Mac and don't know which is  thankswhich. I'm really looking for specific details such as voltage/watts and all the rest to idenify my charger.  A link to where to web page where I could purchase the correct charger would also be very useful. Many thanks.
All help much appreciated. THANK YOU

Both power adapter I have are different (at the magnet end) from the one in link.
Earlier adapters have T shaped connectors, which Apple later changed to the L shape, presumably to make them more abuse-proof. Either one is fine and the one you are using will not damage your Mac.
Retina MBPs and new MBAs use a completely different MagSafe 2 connector which will not fit (without an adapter).

  • What's the best SSD for a Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2010?

    Hello.
I will upgrade my 2010 Macbook Pro. I need to know what's the best SSD for my Macbook Pro. I was thinking about those:
    - Kingston SSDNow V+200 (SVP200S37A/120G) - 120 GB
    - CRUCIAL SSD M4 128 GB
    - CORSAIR SSD  Force Series GS 128 GB
    - SAMSUNG SSD 840 Series Basic 2.5" - 120 GB (MZ-7TD120BW)
    - CRUCIAL SSD interno Crucial v4 - 128 GB
Those are the easiest to find on Portugal.

It is my understanding that SATA III is backwards compatible to SATA II so that should not be an issue for your selection process.
As an aside, you might be interested to know that your MBP can now have 16 GB RAM installed.

  • What is the best anti~virus for macbook pro?

What is the best anti~virus foe macbook pro?

None whatsoever. I'm sure that you've heard the line that "Macs don't get viruses"? That's almost true - Macs can be infected with malware, however, and can pass viruses onto PCs. See Thomas Reed's Mac Malware Guide. The only two virus packages that are usually recommended are both free - Sophos and ClamXav. If you feel that you need AV software, try one or both.
    Good luck,

go to the Store and configure all the models with upgrades but... an SSD will be fast and responsive, no noise or heat and adds $200 probably to the cost

  • What is the minimun battery backup of macbook pro 13inch 2012

what is the minimun battery backup of macbook pro 13inch 2012

It will vary - you can download the free "Battery Health" from the App Store and it will give you approximate times of battery life for various tasks: Current Usage, Internet Browsing, Music, Movies, etc. Watching even YouTube videos can kill some battery life - to say nothing of actually watching a DVD, for example.
Download the app and see what type of results you get - you'll be better equipped to estimate your battery life after a few sessions.

Can someone please tell mewhich is the best antivirus program for macbook pro?

    Hi..
Both Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac and ClamXav are recomended and both are free.

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior.  Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.

  • What is the problem with 15-inch Macbook Pro model 2011 after connecting to TV with HDMI chord?

Today we connected a 15-inch Macbook Pro model 2011 with HDMI chord to an Insigna Television. We plugged and unplugged couple of times. But recently the macbook pro is having technical issues. The following symptoms are:
    1. Macbook pro turns on and off
    2. The screen stays blue and keeps loading but does not load to the desktop so you can't access to anywhere
    3. The screen sometimes becomes fuzzy and the apple logo that shows before it loads to the desktop is fuzzy
    4. Sometimes fuzzy lines appear on the screen like you see on television when there's a bad signal
    5. The screen stays blue
    6. Sometimes little specks appear on the screen
Only thing we did was turn it off and restart but it still leads to the same symptoms above.
Does anyone have any clue what caused this problem? I am guessing it is due to the connection to the HDMI chord, since we didn't turn the macbook on and off when we plugged it, rather we just unplugged and plugged the chord while the macbook is running.
Another theory might be watching movies from an online source but the first theory seems to make more sense.
We scheduled a meeting with the genius bar tomorrow but does anyone might have any clue? And also any ideas how to fix this? This is an emergency because there are important files on the macbook we didn't back up and we hope the files are safe and we need to use the macbook ASAP. Let us know anything that might have caused this and/or any solutions or help. That would be appreciated and thank you.

  • What are the maximum temperatures for my MacBook Pro?

I have this MacBook Pro (3,1). I know there are maximum temperatures at which the system will shut itself down in order to prevent damage. I know this because I have seen it happen a couple of times
When I run Windows, apparently the OS doesn't care to throttle power in order to reduce dangerous heat like Mac OS X does. I now have a program that monitors CPU and GPU heat when I run Windows 7, and it will sound an alarm if they reach a pre-set ceiling.
My question is, how do I know what the emergency shutdown temperature is so I can set the alarm limit appropriately (low enough to trigger before catastrophe, but high enough that it doesn't trigger when things are still okay)?
This page from Intel seems to be telling me that the CPU should not go above 100°C ...does that seem like the number I'm looking for?
Nvidia doesn't seem to say anything about temperatures on the product page. User forums seem only to speculate on what is or isn't safe with no real specifications to back them up.
How can I find these numbers, either from Intel & Nvidia, or from Apple? Or, is there a general ceiling that I can go by to make sure my alarm warns me before an emergency shutdown?
