What is the best tutorial you've found explaining frame animation in CS6's timeline?

While I'd prefer it in book form, I'd be willing to fork over $ for a thorough video demo of frame animation in CS6's timeline. What's the best you've found?

My recomendation would be following something like the links below:

  • What is THE best video file format to import into Premiere Pro CS6?

What is THE best video file format to import into Premiere Pro CS6? I am tired of the guess work of "this might work if you do this." Just tell me which is, flat out, the easiest for Premiere to read?? I generally animate in Adobe Flash, and some times with a Live camera. Premiere seems to pick and choose which video file it wants. I import from the File drop down box in the upper left hand corner, then move the video file to timeline. Under the "scrubber" there is a thin red, (or when rendered) a green line. The videos I put in the timeline show a thin yellow line which means Premiere is confused. So, in basic terms, which video format is MOST commonly accepted with the least amount of trouble/hassle?

Premiere has a function now where you can import a clip and drag onto a timeline and it will prompt you with a message about changing the timeline settings to match your clip, (or if there is no timeline it will automatically create one that matches your clip.) This is in CC of course so you might consider upgrading. They have fixed a lot of compatibility issues from CS6 to now. If you don't want to get all of CC for 60/month then you can at least shell out 20/month on premiere. It's worth it. They've made it where you don't have to worry about 99% of all video formats. They just work.

  • What IS the best program to use to create an animation, that needs to be viewed in Powerpoint?

What IS the best program to use to create an animation, that needs to be viewed in powerpoint?  Essentially i want to output a Movie File, so i'm guessing that Edge Animate is out of the question and it's not photoshop, more likely Flash?

So it sounds like you want to create a form. There are really two approaches, either Acrobat (AcroForm) or LiveCycle Designer (XFA form). LiveCycle Designer comes with Acrobat Pro, but it's an entirely separate application.
For an AcroForm, you'd create the underlying document in a page layout program (e.g., InDesign), word processor, or some other software and convert to PDF. Then in Acrobat you;d add the interactive form fields and any scripting you want. You can also add other types of interactive elements such as links, bookmarks, multimedia, etc. You can add a button which when clicked initiates an email with the filled-in form attached of submits to a web server.
For an XFA form, you'd normally create the entire document in LiveCycle Designer, particularly for a dynamic forms. There's a lot that PDF has to offer that's not available with XFA forms, but XFA forms can do things AcroForms can't. For a good discussion of the important differences between the two types of forms, see the following article: http://acrobatusers.com/blogs/thomp/so-what-difference-between-acroforms-and-xfa
For a form that needs to be saved with Adobe Reader, the document needs to be Reader-enabled. When such a document is opened in Reader, it will unlock certain functionality that Reader does not have otherwise, such as commenting, signing digital signature fields, and most important saving. But when a document has been extended this way with Acrobat, there are licesning restrictions. In short, if you distribute an enabled document to more than 500 recipients, you are allowed to use data from no more than 500 forms that have been returned to you, including hard copied. If fewer than 500 recipients, there is no such limit.

  • What is the best compressor setting to use ... when exporting a 720p timeline from FCP for a project that will only be played back in a standard def monitor?

What is the best compressor setting to use for DVD StudioPro ... when exporting a 720p 30 timeline from FCP for a project that will only be viewed in a standard def monitor?

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?

  • What is the best tutorial for moving a LR 2.5 catalog?

I have used up all of the space on my hard drive so I need to move my LR2 catalog to my Western Digital external hard drive.  I know this can be a very sensitive process to move a catalog so I was wondering what you thought would be the best list of instructions to use?  I have the Scott Kelby for LR too.
If you could share your favorite line, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks!

Do you want to move the catalog or the pictures? It's not the same.
There's no point to move the catalog - it doesn't take that much space. I doubt you have a hard drive smaller some 200 GB or so.
If you want to move the pictures, there's not need for tutorial - that's not that hard. Move the pictures folder in Explorer/Finder. When you open Lightroom, all your files and folders will be reported as missing. Go to Library, Folders panel, right-click the top-level folder and choose Find Missing Folder. If you have more than one top-level folder, do this for each of them.

  • What is the best way to sharpen using both Lightroom_4 and Photoshop CS6?

I want to learn the best way to sharpen various subjects.  I have Martin Evening's latest Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6 books, but no mention of which methods are better,  or better for which subjects/conditions.  It seems that Camera Raw and Lightroom are the same, so I'm tempted to just do it all in Lightroom with the Develop module Detail panel, and the adjustment brush for local sharpening. But can I be doing more with Photoshop CS6, or Lightroom and Photoshop together?

Lightroom and Photoshop have different capabilities.  Photoshop power lies in layers so sharpening in Photoshop is best done using a sharpening layer which can be blended and masked into layers below.  Lightroom is more a image developer then and editor and does not have layer support.  Both Lightroom and Photoshop use Adobe RAW conversion engine to develop images.  Adobe RAW Conversion Engine has very good sharpening and noise reduction capabilities. Sharpening and Noise reduction is more or less a balancing act to much sharpening enhances noise to much noise reducing loose details and add softness.  Though both Photoshop and Lightroom use the same Adobe RAW conversion engine they use different user interfaces when they use Adobe RAW conversion engine.  Lightroom also lacks Layer support.

  • What is the best approach to multi-platform development on Flash Pro CS6?

    Hello everyone,
I have been writing Flash games for a while and now I would like to write games for browser, Android and iOS.  I am very comfortable with AS3 (coming from Java) have read through books and tutorials, had online trainining from Lynda.com you name it.  I would like to hear from real developres some best practice approaches to the 'write once, deploy anywhere' feature of Flash Professional.  Namely I would like to know:
    Should I use timeline code?
Should I include third party engines like Tween Lite.  For example, if I have a Tween Lite com folder in my app or game will that compile to native iOS code?
How should I approach sound clips and music?
These are the main things I would like to know.  Feel free to add any hands-on knowledge you would offer me and users of this forum.  I think this is a great discussion to have that would elimate a lot of the 'fire extinguishing' that takes place on help forums.  I am running CS6 Web Premium on Windows 7.

    Thanks for chiming in AV
    (helpful )
No doubt about it.  There are, however, a lot of caveats to using timeline code.  For example, always remembering to copy/paste into notepad and save in the case of a corrupted FLA, being limited to only one frame vs the tentacles of a document class, weight (it seems all the code loads and runs without waiting to be called)  and the list goes on and on.  You get the point.
Timeline code is like a filing cabinet, as you put it, whereas the class approach is like a books on a shelf.  I think Kglad's opinion was specific to the question I asked, bearing in mind that I was making games.  In the case of games, timeline code can become very expenisive.  I try to reuse code wherever I can to keep things light.
My approach, so far, is still mostly class based but I almost always use timeline code for animations varying from five to thirty lines of code on average, I would say.  Then I just call pre-animated symbols from my document class.  Seems to be working so far.
Thanks for sharing that timeline code is porting nicely into .ipa.  That is a huge reassurance!  That was actually my main concern.  Android is still using a virtual machine (so I am not too worried about that) but I heard that publishing to .ipa converts to native code.  Hats off to the team who pulled that off.
And like you said, there are definitely "a lot of ways to skin the cat."  Happy coding.

  • What is Pixlet? What is the best resolution to render out my 3d animations

I have a couple of questions concerning high quality video and pixlet. I'm a 3d animator, and i'm ready to render all my video out, but I'm very much unsure of what resolution I should render my animation work out as. I would very much like to work in HD 720p. Would my computer be able to process that much information? I'll be using Final Cut Express/Pro to piece my animation work together in the post-production stage. Will that work well with my computer?
If HD 720p is too much to handle, what resolution would you recommend that I use? I want my work to look as high resolution as possible.
Also, what is Pixlet? Would this codec be any help to me whatsoever?
    Thanks for reading...

    From Apple's http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/h264/faq.html
How does H.264 compare with Pixlet?
H.264 and Pixlet are designed for different uses.
Pixlet is focused on workflow, designed for digital filmmakers, animators and effects artists to easily review high-resolution image sequences on a standard PowerMac or PowerBook. Pixlet plays every frame of a sequence without frame-to-frame dependencies so that a media professional can scrutinize every detail of a sequence. Pixlet enables high-end digital film frames at 960x540 (at about 20 Mbps) to play in real time with a 1GHz G4 or faster Macintosh, while 1920x1080 frames (at about 40 Mbps) will play in real time on a dual 2GHz G5 or faster. This capability eliminates the need to invest in costly, proprietary hardware for the professional review process.
H.264 is a delivery codec, optimized for high quality and efficiency. It leverages data that does not change between frames for more efficient compression. While Pixlet may require about 40 Mbps for 1920x1080 content, H.264 delivers 1920x1080 content at about 8 Mbps. This efficiency in H.264 enables delivery to and playback on a wide range of devices, from mobile phones to computers to HDTV and beyond.
As for 720p, my computer would not be able to handle it. Like so many other computers. I can handle the 480p with no problems....

  • What's the best way to record live webcam video with Premiere CS6?

We are producing an online news show and will interview guests from all over the country. We will have them phone in using Skype and or their IPad. We would then do all of the post in Premiere. We would like to capture guest video from either Skype or an iPad using Premiere. Any suggestions for camera/software combinations will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I would not attempt to use Premiere Pro to capture live video. There are better ways.
Perhaps a screen capture utility that records to a lossless codec that is easily edited in Premiere Pro.
I use a free program (CamStudio-Recorder) but there are others. Since I have the drive space, I record to the Lagarith Lossless Codec. Premiere Pro cuts through it like a hot knife through butter.
If quality is not the issue, then there are other codecs you can use that are lossy, but still not too bad.

  • A2109 - What is the best way to remove the cover that hides the MicroSD card

    Hello.
I have tried to remove the cover that hides the MicroSD card with little success.  So that I don't destroy it, what is the best way you have found to remove it.  Thanks.

    hi ourtech,
From the back, remove the two screws at the left and right side. For the bezel, try to use the plastic prying tool in this order:
    1. From volume key to the left (I/O ports)
    2. From volume key to power key
    3. From the side without screws to I/O
    4. From power key downwards
Also, be careful when removing the plastic near the volume button to avoid breaking the bezel.
    Hope this helps.

  • What's the best way to merge, restore or reconstruct iPhoto and Aperture libraries to resolve images that are not found/offline?

    Hey there, Apple Support Communities.
To start, I'm working on a MBP Retina 15" with a 2.3GHz i7 processor and 16 GB of RAM.  10GB free on a 256GB SS HD.  Attached are two external HDs - one 1TB Western Digital portable drive from 2011, one 2TB Porsche LaCie non-portable drive from 2013; both connected via USB.  All photo libraries in question are on the external drives.
I have Aperture 3.5.1 and iPhoto 9.5.1.  I prefer to work in Aperture.
    The Issue(s)
Over the years, I have accumulated a number of iPhoto libraries and Aperture libraries.  At one point, I thought my WD drive was dying so I purchased the LaCie and copied all libraries over the the LaCie drive.  (Turns out, there's probably an issue with my USB port reading drives, because I can once again see the WD drive and occasionally I can't see the LaCie drive.)
So now I have old version of some libraries on the WD drive, and new versions on the LaCie drive.
When I was moving things, I ran the software Gemini to de-dupe my iPhoto libraries.  Not sure what effect that may have had on my issues.
In my main Aperture library and in some iPhoto libraries, I get the image-not-found badge or exclamation point.  I've dug through the hidden Masters folders in various libraries to find the original image.  In some cases, I have been able to find the original image, sometimes in a different version of the iPhoto library.
    My Question(s)
    1.  For Aperture libraries that have missing originals, is there some magical way to find them, or have they just disappeared into the oblivion?
    2.  For iPhoto libraries that have missing originals and I have found the original in another iPhoto library, what is the best way to proceed?
    3.  Are there quirks to merging iPhoto and Aperture libraries (by using the Import->Library) feature that I should be aware of?
TL;DR: Too many iPhoto and Aperture libraries, and not all the original pictures can be found by the libraries anymore, though some originals still do exist in other libraries.  Steps/process to fix?
Thank you!  Let me know if you need add'l info to offer advice.
    With appreciation,
    Christie

That will not be an easy task, Christie.
I am afraid, your cleaning session with Gemini may have actually removed originals. I have never used this duplicate finder tool, but other posters here reported problems. Gemini seems to replace duplicate original files in photo libraries by links, and this way, deleting images can cause the references for other images to break. And Aperture does not follow symbolic links - at least, I could never get it to find original files this way, when I experimented with this.
    1.  For Aperture libraries that have missing originals, is there some magical way to find them, or have they just disappeared into the oblivion?
You have to find the originals yourself. If you can find them or restore them from a backup, Aperture can reconnect them. The reconnect panel can show you, where the originals are supposed to be, so youcan see the filename and make a Spotlight search.
For iPhoto libraries that have missing originals and I have found the original in another iPhoto library, what is the best way to proceed?
Make a copy of the missing original you found in a folder outside the iPhoto library. You can either open the iPhoto library in Aperture and use "File > Locate Referenced file" to reconnect the originals, or simply reimport them. Then Lift&Stamp all adjustments and metadata to the reimported version.
See this manual page on how to reconnect originals:  Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Referenced Images  (the paragraph:  Reconnecting Missing or Offline Referenced Images)
Are there quirks to merging iPhoto and Aperture libraries (by using the Import->Library) feature that I should be aware of?
References images will stay referenced, managed will remain managed. You need to unhide all hidden photos in iPhoto - this cannot be done in Aperture.
and not all the original pictures can be found by the libraries anymore, though some originals still do exist in other libraries.  Steps/process to fix?
That is probably due to Gemini's replacing duplicate originals by links, and your best cause of action is to fix this before merging the libraries. Reconnecting can be done for your iPhoto libraries in Aperture.

Find My iPhone is good for misplaced iPhone but not good for thief and it was never meant to be.
You chance of getting it back is very small.
There are a few things you can try.
Try remote lock/wipe your iPhone through Find My iPhone.
