Initially, my machine had an issue with the backlight, and the local dealer replaced the logic board which did nothing, so I took it back and they replaced the screen, but after replaceing the screen, the "closed lid" sensor no longer works and the machine will only sleep from software, not when the lid is closed. They won't return my calls, and they seem pretty inept anyhow.

I took the machine to the other dealer here in town to see if they would fix it, and after holding on to it for 3 days, they said it wasn't a hardware problem--I should reinstall the operating system. I did that for ***** and giggles knowing full well it wouldn't actually do anything, and sure enough it didn't.

There is a third dealer here in town, but of the 5 other apple owners I know with computers that needed servicing in Edmonton, all 5 of them insist they are in fact, worse than the other two, and after some of the stories, I believe them. (http://www.westworld.com/)
Now, knowing full well I payed half a thousand dollars for comprehensive support from Apple and all technicians here in town are stupid (for lack of a better word), how the **** am I supposed to fix this P.O.S?

Not a terrible idea, especially given how much time has been wasted on this already. I'm not a big fan of the idea of not having a computer for however long it takes 2 cross-country shippings and a repair, but it seems whether I get it don't locally or not, that's the only option left.

What's the correct way to get changes in my iTunes library to sync to my iPod

It's been a few years since I've used itunes, so please bear with me.
I'm trying to get my ipod setup but something seems weird. In the past, if I made changes to my itunes library, then plugged in my ipod, those changes would immediately sync. It's not doing that now. When I plug the ipod in, I click on the ipod symbol near the top-right to get to the connected ipod. If I click on "on this ipod" I can clearly see that the old files/metadata are still present. When I click the "sync" button down at the bottom (next to the storage bar) nothing happens. If I click on "Music" near the top (between Summary and Movies) there's a check-box next to "Sync Music" but when I click that it says "Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, and tv shows from this ipod and sync with this itunes library?". I don't want to have to wipe the thing clean and then re-write EVERYTHING again every time I want to make a change, that's crazy.
So what am I missing here? Is there some setting that would make it work the way it did in the past, automatically syncing changes as soon as I plug in the ipod? If not, what's the best way to get the changes to sync over without having to wipe the ipod clean every time? Does the "Sync Music" option I mentioned not actually remove everything, but just sync any changes that were made? That's the only thing I can come up with.

It shouldn't wipe everything but it will make the iPod match what you have selected in iTunes. So if it's on your iPod now and also in iTunes, it won't remove it then re-add it.

How do I get it to stay checked then? I've checked it and gone through the sync process, but every time I go back to that window, it's un-checked again, and I have to sync manually.
Ok, that's what I was hoping, it just syncs any changes. I've done it this way a couple times but couldn't tell for sure if it was just removing then re-adding evertying or if it was just syncing changes.

Haven't done it myself, but seems like the correct workflow would be:
From GarageBand (iOS), My Songs -> select song -> Send to iTunes
From iMovie HD (iOS), My Project -> Insert Media -> select by song name
I'm not sure if GB creates its own playlist for tagging exported songs in your iTunes library so selecting by name would be the next-best method.

What is the correct way to format file paths and names in the structapp file?

I am trying to create a structured application to export fm files as xml, and probably read the xml back to fm.
In the structured application file (structapp), I need to specify the locations of the various files (DTD, read/write, template, etc). I would like to place these files on a shared server so others can use the same structapp file (that is, a cop of it). What is the correct way to format the file paths and names? Can folders folder names and file names have spaces in them? I tried the following, for example:
\\serverName\shareName\folder 1\folder 2\file name.dtd
I use the same format for the template file and the read/write rules file.
When I try to save an fm file to xml, FrameMaker says that it cannot read the DTD; however, the resulting xml file appears to be well-formed. The DOCTYPE element in the resulting xml is formatted with forward slashes and spaces replaced with %20.
I tried using forward slashes and replacing spaces with %20, but then I get an error about reading the read/write rules.
NOTE: I have another structured application to read xml into fm. This application does not have a DTD file. The template and read/write rules files are specified as above. Except for complaining about a lack of a DTD, the application works fine; it even applies an XSLT in the process. Again, when I DO add a DTD to this latter application, I get the same complaint about not being able to read the DTD.
I am using fully patched FrameMaker 9 in Windows XP.

The XML parser and FrameMaker are not the same thing. The Error Log says which component created which message. The XSL processor is another option that can throw messages. The "\\server\path\some.dtd" syntax in structapps.fm seems to be fine for some tools, as Internet Explorer with XML tools successfully finds the DTD which appears as "//server/path/some.dtd" in the XML. But apparently Xerxes, the XML parser bundled with FrameMaker, does not like this notation.
If you have a path with a drive letter, "H:\path\some.dtd", FrameMaker turns that into "file:///H:/path/some.dtd". It seems, Xerces would like to see "file:/" in front of absolute paths.
This is what I have in structapps.fm:

DOCTYPE: …

In the structapps.fm I have the DTD without path information. The resulting XML (without XSL postprocessing) then contains just the file name with a relative path back to the book folder (when saving a book as XML). It therefore requires the DTD to be available at this place. I handle this using an event script that fires for NotePreSaveXml and copies the DTD to the folder of the original document.
As I always use XSL postprocessing and using XSLT1 it is not possible to have the doctype-system as a parameter I have this in my XSL stylesheet:
<xsl:output doctype-system="some.dtd" />
For the resulting XML the DTD is expected to be in the same folder as the XML file. This is handled by the same event script as above, it therefore copies the DTD to the source and the target folder.
Bottom line: If you want/have to use UNC paths, you have to do some programming to work around a FrameMaker bug.

I know I should be consistent and use www or not on every link but none of the articles tell me whether I should use http:// or not when linking.

Most hosts will automatically create a CNAME record for both 'www.example.tld' and 'example.tld' when the hosting account is created, but not all do. If that second CNAME record is not created, then you must always use the "www" prefix.
If the reference to your site is a text reference only, then you could just use 'www.ateccomputerservices.co.uk', but if it's a link you should always make the LINK part (the HTML href attribute's value part) as a fully qualified URL, i.e., 'http://www,ateccomputerservices.co.uk' or 'http://ateccomputerservices.co.uk':

Find My iPhone is good for misplaced iPhone but not good for thief and it was never meant to be.
You chance of getting it back is very small.
There are a few things you can try.
Try remote lock/wipe your iPhone through Find My iPhone.

There is no automatic way to generate XML documents from an arbitary set of relational tables using the information contained in an XML Schema. Typically the easiest way to generate XML from relational data is to use the SQL/XML operators (XMLElement, XMLAGG, XMLAttribtues, XMLForest). Open the Get Info window for the old drive. Click the Lock icon on the bottom of that window and type in your password. In the permissions area click the Plus sign ( + ) and Add your Username to it and set it to Read & Write. Close that window. you should now have full access to all the files.

The whole format thing has been introduced in 1.5. The tutorial also states it's been "updated to 1.5.".
That's all I've got to say for I don't know how you can format a PrintWriter, let alone a PrintStream, prior to 1.5. I'm not really sure there is any way. Any "legacy way", that is. There almost certainly are third-party API which achieve similar results.

With a scanning electron microscope, I need to scan a 512*512 pixel area with a pixel repetition of 15000 (two channels), meaning averaging over 15000 measurements. Simultaneously I have to adjust the voltage output for every pixel.
I am using a 6111E Multifunction I/O board in a 800MHz P3. The whole task has do be done as fast as possible (not more than 20 minutes altogether).
What is the fastest way to get this huge amount of data with averaging and output in between? (E.g. do I use buffered read with hardware triggering or is there a faster way?)

Using the NI-DAQ API (not LabView) will give you a significant amount of more control over what happens and when to the data stream; which translates to a more efficient program. But you need to program in C/C++ or Delphi then. The Measurement Studio provides ActiveX controls that are like the LabView ones for C&C++ (they�re slow like the LabView ones though � not a lot you can do about the Windows GDI).
What are you trying to sample 15000 times? The 512*512 pixel field?
That�s almost 15Gigs of data! And it means you need to process data at 12.8MB/s to finish it in 20 minutes. I hope you know C, x86 assembly and MMX.
I would setup a huge circular buffer (NI-DAQ calls them �double buffers�), about 30 seconds worth or so, to use with SCAN_Start. Then I would proces
s the actual buffer the card is DMA�ing the data into with a high priority thread. Progressively sum the scan values from the 16bit buffer (the samples are only 12 bit, but the buffer should still be 16bits wide) into a secondary buffer of DWORDs the size of the screen (512*512), and you�ll need two of those, one for each channel. Once the 15000 scans are complete, convert each entry into a float divide by 15000.0f, and store it in a third buffer of floats.

First, if you haven't updated to iTunes 10.5, please update now as you will need it for the iPhone 4S and iOS 5.
Once you're done installing iTunes 10.5, open it. Connect your iPhone to iTunes using the USB cable. Once your iPhone pops up right click on it. For example: an iPhone will appear and it will say "Ryan's iPhone."
Right click on it and select "Backup" from the dropdown menu. It will start backing up. This should backup your notes.
Please tell me if you have any problems with backing up.
Once you backup and get your iPhone 4S, you must follow these steps. If you don't follow these steps, you will not be able to get your notes on your new iPhone 4S.
Open up iTunes again then right click on your device (iPhone 4S). Once you do you will see a dropdown menu. It will say "Restore from Backup..." Select this and it'll ask for a backup, select it from the dropdown menu. For example "Ryan's iPhone - October 12, 2011." Pick that and it will restore to your backup. Do this when you get your iPhone 4S so you will not lose anything. Even though you're restoring, you're getting back, since you're getting the previous settings, notes, contacts, mail and other settings from your old iPhone. You'll still have Siri though! So, restore when you first get it. Also frequently backup your device, as it will be worth it. You can restore from a backup if something goes wrong or save your data for a future update.
Once you do that, you should have your notes on your new iPhone 4S and iOS 5.

The first time I attempted to install ML was on a late 2011 MBP. It ran for three minutes then gave me the error message: Could not install OSX due to an unexpected error. I was using the original ML install app, not a USB or other drive.
After a couple of restarts wiht the same result I saw a message to the effect that the install was trying to close open apps. I closed apps manually a few times to no avail. I shut down instead of restarting then booted into Safe mode (hold down the shift key when starting) and that did it. The install went smoothly after that.
I since installed ML in two iMacs using a cloned copy of the install app on a USB drive. This time I shut down the computers and booted into Safe Mode first and there were no problems.
I don't know if this issue is the one causing you these problems but it is a simple enough solution to try.
