What is the latest update available for Mac OSX 10.5.8 that will allow me to get the latest update for iTunes.  I really need to update my iPhone and CAN'T!!  GRRRR!!!

Minimally you need Snow Leopard or greater:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
     Snow Leopard General Requirements
       1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
       2. 1GB of memory
       3. 5GB of available disk space
       4. DVD drive for installation
       5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
           fees may apply.
       6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
           terms apply.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
     Lion System Requirements
       1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
           or Xeon processor
       2. 2GB of memory
       3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
       4. 7GB of available space
       5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
         1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
         2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
             Model Identifier 5,1 or later
         3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
         4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
         5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
         6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
         7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

The device has an 8GB drive for caching streamed meida, a small portion of that is used to temporarily store photos for the screensaver. It may vary depending on resolution etc but it seems to be around 100.

  • Is there anything out there I can plug in to the USB socket that will allow me to adjust the volume?

Is there anything out there I can plug in to the USB socket that will allow me to adjust the volume?
I didn't like the iPod Touch user interface at first, but then I got used to it and now I'm back on the old scroll wheel and finding it a bit clunky to be honest. Whatsmore, I can no longer adjust the volume easily by putting my hand in my pocket and pressing the sides. Why did Apple not think to put one on them, sometimes the design over usability thing is taken too far.
Some buttons for easily flicking tracks and pausing would have been handy too.

  • Where is the Url for free Adobe Acrobat X Pro that will allow me to create PDF/X ‑1a requires all fonts to be embedded,

Is there a free copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro that will allow me to create PDF/x‑1a with all requires all fonts to be embedded. I already have Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.

The Standard joboptions that are used by default don't embed most so-called system fonts.
Change your joboptions to High Quality Print and you will get Arial embedded plus much higher quality imagery.
BTW, PDF/X is great (I'm actually Chair of the PDF/X standards committee), but PDF/X-1a created by using the PDF/X-1a joboptions ruins output by flattening transparency, yielding stitching and other image artifacts that you can see both on screen and print if your document has any transparency (including drop shadows, reflections, and even clipped images). It also forces all content to CMYK. PDF/X-4 is a better choice.
What are you creating the PDF file from? Microsoft Office documents? Adobe layout programs such as InDesign?
Let us know and we can give you a more focused recommendation as to what to do.

I have a MacBook Pro that will not boot up. The apple symbol is there and the spinning wheel keeps spinning. Any idea how I can fix this?

    Reinstall OS X.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    OR
Reinstall Snow Leopard without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • I Have mac osx 10.5.8 and have tried to update to mac osx snow leopard 10.6.3, but I constantly get the install failed message. What could be the problem?

My imac is currently running mac os x 10.5.8. I've tried to install mac osx snow leopard 10.6.3, but have been unsuccesful because the disc fails to install.
    What could be the problem?

You should boot from the Installer DVD by holding down the C key during start up until the Apple logo and spinning cog wheel appears. Allow plenty of time for the installer to appear - it can take several minutes when booting from a disc.
I suggest not doing this unless the Apple recommended method (starting by double-clicking on the
Install Mac OS X icon while booted up normally) fails.
There are several reasons for this:
The Apple method performs a check of the DVD's integrity before starting up from it. This can't be done if you start up directly from the DVD.
The Apple method "phones home" using the current OS's network settings to check for updates to the incompatible items database included on the DVD & writes a lot of pre-install data (the 'Mac OS X Install Data' stuff) to the HD before restarting automatically from the DVD to finish the installation. This may not work as expected if you start up directly from the DVD.
The pre-install data on the HD speeds up the installation process (because running the OS from the HD to build the data is faster than doing that while running from a DVD).
The Apple method makes it possible to "gracefully" cancel the installation before the automatic restart occurs without leaving the existing OS on the HD in a corrupted, "half-installed" state unable to restart the Mac. This sometimes happens if the installation process hangs & one has to force-restart the Mac to recover. As long as this occurs during the "pre-install phase" before the restart, the existing OS should remain untouched & intact.
Also note that the Snow Leopard installer is quite a bit more sophisticated than the previous ones like for Leopard or Tiger. It automatically performs the equivalent of Disk Utility's Verify Disk step before beginning the installation & performs more checks during the installation process (including checking the pre-install data for errors). It is usually not necessary to remove the "Mac OS X Install Data" folder after a failed installation, which may just cause the process to take longer on subsequent attempts, but if nothing else helps it is certainly something worth trying.

  • I have a mac osx with versiom 10.5.8 how do i get the latest software

i recently got a iphone 5 and itunes cant recognize it because my itunes needs to be updated and i cant update my itunes because my computer isnt updated . what steps do i need to do to get it up to date?

You will need to purchase a retail copy of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, still available from the online Apple Store, and upgrade your iMac to at least the version. You will then be able to run iTunes 11, necessary to sync to a phone that's running iOS 7. Whether you can and wish to further upgrade to OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion will depend on your specific model of iMac and your needs and preferences. System requirements for Snow Leopard and  Lion can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949
    and for Mountain Lion here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/
If you do consider upgrading beyond Snow Leopard, be aware that Lion and later OS X versions will no longer run PowerPC-only applications, so some of your current applications may need to be upgraded or replaced.

  • I have for three hours been trying to download a version of foxfire that will allow me to use the add on ... facebook activity remover. it has been a nightmare

why do you not list the different versions of foxfire on your website if you are going to offer addons that will not work with the most current version og foxfire. INSANITY. i just want to use the add on facebook activity remover. Evidently it works only with versions 21.o0 to 29.0 i think. at any rate good luck trying to find one these versions. there are thousands of links all of which includes a maze leadibg to nothing useful interms of downloading version 21.0.
this is horrible. i know its free but my time isnt. id rather pay than through so bullshit.
any solutions ... simple and quick.

The vast majority of '''Extensions''' rather hosted at addons.mozilla.org are made by a third-party author or company. These authors are the ones who keep them updated for new Firefox Releases. If the author says Mozilla or Mozilla Labs then it was from Mozilla.
Mozilla does not make older versions of '''Firefox''' readily available to download as easy as current Release as they are potentially vulnerable. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/known-vulnerabilities/
The install.rdf file for version 2.5.5 of https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/addon/ lists Firefox 26.0 to 30.0
I am testing Firefox 38.0 build on Nightly channel and it goes about the install.

  • HT3642 Does anyone know of an app for the Kindle Fire that will allow me to access my movies from my iTune account?

I just purchased a Kindle Fire HD 8.9. I would like to be able to access my iTunes account to play my movies that I have purchased. Does anyone know if it is possible to do this and if so how? If not is there a way to download the movies to my computer so I could transfer them via USB?

Since the documents are on the server and not your work computer it doesn't matter that your work computer is off.
Usually computers on a work network are firewalled from the internet. Without knowing the details of your network it is impossible to know wether it is possible. Perhaps you should speak to the IT person at your work.
If it is possible you will probably need an app that can access the documents on the server using a compatible protocol. I am not aware of an app that handles standard Windows file sharing. Goodreader can do ftp and webDAV. You may require something like webDAV enabled on the server.

  • How do i download a version of itunes that will allow me to have the apple software

I have Windows 7 and I'm unable to download the new iTunes. The discussion boards tell me to uninstall "Apple Software" or repair it but I don't even have it in my computer. I'm trying to find another option but all it keeps bringing me back to is to download iTunes so that I could have Apple Software. It's the stupidest circular resolution.
Does anyone know any other options??
