What is the numbers equivalent of excel "freeze pane"?

I work with detailed spreadsheets where it is most helpful to keep a few rows at the top and a few columns to the left stationary while I scroll through the rest of the data. Can you tell me what the Numbers equivalent of that is?

Thanks. I'm new to Mac (20 years of IBM thinkpads) so I definitely appreciate the help. Could you tell me how to provide feedback to Apple in the best way to get their attention? Thanks again.

  • What's the Numbers08 equivalent of Excel's freeze panes?

I want to use Numbers as a spreadsheet for accounts, as I used to use Excel - but if I can't freeze cells/columns at the left of the sheet, it's no use to me ...

    Hello

+If Apple wishes to capture some of Excel's market share, and entice people to "switch", they may want to put a little more thought into how real people, in the real business world, actually use the product.+
As far as I know, Apple never said that their goal was the described one.
They didn't build Numbers for the professional numbers crunchers.
They built it for the standard users, those who don't need the power-hammer named XL.
As is, Numbers is able to fit the needs of, say 80-90% of computers users.
Believe it or not this market is sufficient to fill Apple's cash-box
I never met a tool satisfying to 100% of the needs of 100% of the users.
Once again I will write that, if Numbers doesn't fit your needs, just stay with XL.

  • Numbers equivalent to Excel DMAX?

    Hiya folks!
Is there a Numbers equivalent to Excel's DMAX function (as described here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/dcount-HP005209049.aspx)?  I'm looking to create a price book and would like essentially two tables.  The first table will record my items, their price, store, and date.  The second table I would like to show the lowest price and location for each item in the first table.  So, for example, if my first table has the following:
    Item
    Price
    Date
    Store
    Apple
    1.00
    1/2/13
    Walmart
    Orange
    2.00
    1/2/13
    Walmart
    Apple
    1.50
    1/3/13
    Smiths
    Orange
    1.75
    1/3/13
    Smiths
Then I'd like my second table to display:
    Item
    Price
    Date
    Store
    Apple
    1.00
    1/2/13
    Walmart
    Orange
    1.75
    1/3/13
    Smiths
Alternatively, if anyone has some suggestions on how I can accomplish this, that'd be great!
    Thanks!
    Jess

If you add an index column to your data table (here named 'Table 1') then you can do something like this, using INDEX MATCH, with MATCH set to find the smallest value.
    Table 1
    Item
    Price
    Date
    Store
    Index
    Apple
    1.00
    1/2/13
    Walmart
    Apple|001.00
    Orange
    2.00
    1/2/13
    Walmart
    Orange|002.00
    Apple
    1.50
    1/3/13
    Smiths
    Apple|001.50
    Apple
    0.99
    1/3/13
    Mars
    Apple|000.99
    Orange
    1.75
    1/3/13
    Smiths
    Orange|001.75
    Lowest
    Item
    Price
    Date
    Store
    Apple
    0.99
    1/3/13
    Mars
    Orange
    1.75
    1/3/13
    Smiths
The formula in E2 of 'Table 1':
        =A2&"|"&RIGHT("0000000"&B2,6)
This simply concatenates the item name and price, padding the price with leading zeros.
The formula in B2 of 'Lowest', copied right and down, is:
        =INDEX(Table 1::B,MATCH($A2,Table 1::$E,-1))
The -1 argument in MATCH means 'find smallest value'.
Here is a screenshot of the formula that may or may not display here:
Once MATCH figures out the row number in 'Table 1' the INDEX function retrieves the values there.
In column A of 'Lowest' you need to manually enter a list of distinct "fruits" with spelling that matches the names in 'Table 1'. If you have many names and need a way to automate that step there is an Automator Service that makes it easy to extract distinct values from a column.  Post if you need that.

A slight correction to odie's post. I think you want min not max to replicate the Access first function, but see below to be sure. So:
    min(upper(trim(tre.dname))) keep (dense_rank first order by tre.gcusno) as dname_std
user10860953 wrote:How does one ignore null values? The min and max functions will ignore nulls automatically, so if there is a null value in tre.dname, it will not be be returned, unless all of the values are null. For example:

  • What is the mac equivalent to a right clic on a windows machine

What is the Mac equivalent to a right click?  I installed Office for Mac 2011 on my macbook pro and I need to right click over a file from an ealier version of Office to make Office 2011 the default version of office.  This is all in preparation to install Lion (Lion won't support Office 2004 and I can't afford to lose access to these files).

    CTRL+click
CTRL=control (in between the fn and alt/option keys).
You can also go into System Preferences --> Trackpad and ensure "Secondary Click" is checked so that a two finger tap will act as a "right-click."

  • What cause the ZEN Touch 2 to freeze?

    Hello,
I've (finally) received my ZEN Touch 2 with GPS two days ago, and it truly is a fantastic MP3 Player. But guess what? Today, for the first time, it really did froze, using the N64oid emulator. When the ZEN is lagging, I'm simply waiting, and it work like a charm a few seconds later. But now, it was completely frozen. Touch Screen, Power button... Tried connecting to computer, no reaction.
So in a bad mood, I tried reseting the unit, which I'm obviously not suposed to do often, I had a hard time. First, the reset hole is way too tiny!? Even with a paper clip or a pencil mine, this is ridiculously hard!? First, I even used the wrong hole, I though this was the reset hole, so yeah, the paper clip got inside the ZEN... Truly awesome. After all, I managed to remove it.
And then, seemed like I got it, ZEN resetted, when I thought it was completely screwed, only two days after I received it!
It seems to work correctly, now. Needless to saw I deleted the data, application and ROMs of N64oid, the right way (Along with PSXoid, which I haven't tested, but is probably similar.). When I first tried Super Mario 64, it was playable, at an OK speed. But today, I tried others ROMs, like Donkey Kong 64, or Tony Hawks Pro Skater, without a doubt, that was asking too much from the ZEN, since I couldn't pass the main menu.
So now I really hope my ZEN will last,?Creative. I'm in Quebec, got it from California. Needed to ship it to Plattsburgh by Amazon.com, and to be fowarded to my house, since you unfortunately do not ship to Canada.
I still have a one year warrantee, but undestand me, I?absolutely wouldn't want to ship it to Creative?in?the US, then get it shipped back to Plattsburgh, and then to my home. That'll cost me hell (Again)!
Alright,?I'll?now like to know what cause the ZEN Touch 2 to freeze? In my case, that was the emulator that was too advanced for the ZEN (And since it doesn't support multi-touch, it's hardly playable without a USB keyboard or gamepad (Possible?), or Wiimote). ?I don't have applications running?in the backgroung, only one at a time.
How can I avoid my ZEN to freeze again?
Oh yes, one more question. Why when I start some applications, it instantly shut ("The application [...] (process com [...] has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.") ? How can I fix this?
    Thanks for the reply.

    )?Thanks for the reply.
I unistalled many 3rd Party APPs (Only /3 were booting, anyways), and I can already see a huge difference with the fluidity of the menu. It's also turning on faster.
I already uninstalled N64oid, but kept the others 2D emulators, never had a problem with them, they run without lagging.
What's odd, however, I downloaded Firefox from ZiiO Space, ran it, and the ZEN went pretty much crazy; black screen, I tried to get back to the menu, pressing buttons and all that, and then the ZEN vibrated like hell, perhaps because I pressed the buttons a lot of time. I finally made it, without resetting, but that was freaking scary. Oo
Uninstalled Firefox. I find it strange that I downloaded it from ZiiO Space, and that it doesn't work like normal.
I'll try to be more careful while downloading APPs, if I can.
    I appreciate the reply.

Is there a link to the Support Community from the KB article that automatically puts the KB number in the new discussion. I couldn't find one.
Or does the person creating the discussion manually put the article number in the topic.

  • What are the numbers next to the "Building edges from DisplayObject"?

    Dear colleagues,
Could you help me to understand what are the numbers next to the “Building edges from DisplayObject”, please?

    Scout 1.1.0.
    Scout log file http://townden.com/forum-pictures/numbers_next_to.flm
this is test on iOS iPad 1 -- animation of dragon
Thank you in advance for help,
    Vlad

The number "x 3" means that "Building edges from DisplayObjects" happened 3 times. The time shown next to it is the total time for all three of these activities. The same is true for "Calculating dirty regions x 2" - it means that it happened twice. You shouldn't worry too much about the number of activities though, just the total time for them - e.g. if Flash Player didn't have anything to do, it might finish an activity almost immediately, and this would show up in Scout with a negligible time (e.g. a few microseconds) - that's not something you should worry about.
If you want to understand the display list rendering operations better, you can read the article here:
