What is the "other" section on my ipod and how do i remove it

hi, im not the most ipod literate user in the world, but i have heaps of storage space being used in the section other. what is in there and how do i take it off?

Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
"Other" is the measure of used space on the iPod not taken up by Audio, Video & Photos. This includes the iPod's library and artwork plus any files you may have copied to your iPod in disk mode. The overhead for the library & artwork data is typically 1-2% of the size of the media, e.g. for 100Gb of Audio & Video expect to have around 1.5Gb of "Other". This information is needed for the iPod's operation and cannot be removed.
If you have significantly larger amounts of "Other", not related to files you've intentionally placed on the iPod, then these are probably disconnected copies of your media files or iPod libraries left over from failed sync operations. The only way to recover the space is to do a full restore.

  • What's the 'other' part in my storage and how do I get rid of it?

A big part of the storage of my iPod Touch 4th Generation is occupied with 'other', it's about 7 GB. What is this and how do I get rid of it?

What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.
    First try:
"First you go settings/general/usage/music/then left swipe over music and press delete and you would think it deletes your music but it doesn't instead it deletes your other but make sure your ipod is connected to a computer while doing this"

Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • What is including in the other section of my memory and how do I manage it?

I'm running out of memory and I can't seem to find out what is in the section labeled as other when I connect the Ipad to itunes. Can anyone help?

that other folder is files sync'd from your pc but are not readable by the device. so try this but understand its a complete data loss and your backup will have the "other folder"  so must be set up as new.  as far a permanent fix buy a mac computer and dont sync with windows
    recovery mode
    open itunes on computer
plug cable into computer not phone
    turn phone off
hold home button and plug cable into phone.  do not release home button until an itunes graphic appears on device.
look to computer should have message about recovery mode click ok and restore

It has recently taken up a lot of room on my ipod. Is there a way to delete it? Please help. I am running out of space.

You need to restore your iPod. Usually restoring from backup works.

  • What does the other mean on my itunes and how do you see what is in your other?

When i was syncing my ipod its other category rose from around 1gb to 42gb in seconds and i do not know what the files are can anyone suggest something, because i have been on other chat things and they said it would be either album artwork or photos

Other is the measure of used space on the iPod not taken up by Audio, Video & Photos. This includes the iPod's library and artwork plus any files you may have copied to your iPod in disk mode. If you have copies of all your media in your iTunes library this isn't a problem, but if you've been manually managing the content then you might need to try to recover the files from it first. See this post by Zevoneer on transferring files from the iPod to your computer. Some of the tools rely on the iPod having a healthy library however the manual method mentioned towards the end of the post should work regardless.
Note restoring should clear all files from the iPod's drive however sometimes it doesn't actually seem to work. Options include manually deleting all visible & hidden files & folders via Explorer/Finder or formatting the drive.
When repopulating the drive you may find breaking the process up into smaller stages makes it less likely to fail.
    Break up large transfers
In iTunes select the menu item File... New Smart Playlist. Change the first drop-down box to Playlist, the next to is and the next to Music or whatever playlist holds the bulk of the content you want on your device. Tick against Limit to, type in say 10, then change the drop-down to GB, and set the last drop-down to artist. When you click OK you can enter a name for the playlist, e.g. Transfer. Now sync this playlist to your iPod rather than your entire library. When the sync is complete modify the rule (File... Edit playlist) to increase the size by your chosen amount, then sync and repeat. You can experiment with different size increments, if it doesn't work just choose something a bit smaller until it works each time. Before long you should have all your music on your iPod. Once that's done you can move on to other media such as podcasts, videos, photos, playlists etc.

  • What is the other section on iTunes!!!?

I updated my iPod touch 64g 3rd generation to the new system.  I recently had about 18 gigs free, but with the new system I have .98 free space and 21gigs in the other section so now all of my pics won't sync to my iPod!  What in the world is the problem and what is the other section and why is it so full all of a sudden!?

Many files got corrupted during the update process and are in the "other" category. To recover, you need to restore your iPod.  First try restoring from backup. If not successful (since the corruption is in the backup), you need to restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • What is the other section of my computer?

  • What means the "OTHER" category on my iPod ?

What means the OTHER category on my iPod Touch 4th Gen ?
Because it take A LOTS of my stockage... ~7.5GB / 32GB...

Other is usually around 1 GB...
A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup... But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup... Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

  • What is the "other" data on my ipod after i updated my os

what is the "other" data on my ipod after i updated my os? and can i remove it? and how do i pair up devices via bluetooth?

    Hi
First, the "Others" what you see in iTunes when you're iDevice was plugged in, is where the iOS installed. It's the system core of your iDevice.
2nd - That ia hevn't used before, bluetooth pairing. The last time I tested it, I failed.
and now you're not the only one who needs help in bluetooth pairing, LOL...

Hi ghost ninja: The "other" section on your iPod Touch is most likely your operating system. Probably not a good idea to get rid of it.

i want to know what's the conference call in community level and how to use it

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Conference calls are got when you reach level 4. Sometimes, ASC hosts may do a conference call about something related to Apple Support Communities. You will be notified through mail or through the "Using Apple Support Communities" forum.
The last community calls were only for level 6 and higher users, so it's possible that you don't get invited to any until you reach level 6

my iphone 3 couldn't restore, its saying the error 46. what is the meaning of error 46?and how can i resolve it?

It doesn't matter when you installed antivirus software; if you have it on your computer it will frequently block access from applications to sites it does not know about. A sync does not require access to a site not on your computer; an upgrade clearly does. So if you have never jailbroken any device you do not need to be concerned about your hosts file, but you DO need to temporarily disable your antivirus during the update process.
The hosts file is an operating system file on all computers that overrides DNS lookup. In order to jailbreak or hack an iDevice the programs that do it need to redirect iTunes so it does not go to the Apple activation server, but instead goes to the hacking program for activation instructions. It does this by adding a record to the hosts file that bypasses the DNS lookup for gs.apple.com. But you don't have to be concerned about this.

  • The other section on my iPod touch is 1.73GB!

Connected my iPod touch (4th Generation) to iTunes and noticed how high the 'other' section on it is. I do not have much album artwork or many notes or contacts. Why is the 'other' stuff taking up so much memory on my iPod and how can I delete it? Thanks

Sometimes the Other section also includes corrupted files that are no longer readable by iTunes or your iPod Touch.  The only way to shrink it down to a more appropriate size is to restore your iPod via iTunes.  See this article for more help and information on restoring your device.
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
If a restore from backup does not resolve the size of Other then it's likely something in the backup and you'll want to restore it to factory defaults instead.
