  • New Airport express 11n more difficult to set up than the 11g

just got new AX 802.11n but find difficulty to set up network with my PC, the old AX 802.11g had no problem.
the differences I could see from PC network when scanning AX network is security set up to WAP2 not WEP as I did setting in AX.
Any advise would be very appreciated, thank you.

    Hold on a minute...
Now I'm confused. I have DSL with a modem supplied by the provider (TDS). The Modem connects to my computer via ethernet cable. i was assuming if I plug the ethernet cable from my DSL modem INTO my Airport express- then I have created a wireless connection for internet for the computer as well as other computers that come into the house. Is this not so?
thanks for any clarification you can provide.

  • Where can I find the 'Ethernet ID' of my airport express 2nd?

Where is the 'Ethernet ID of the airport express 2nd? I cannot find it on the box.
    Many thanks

The Ethernet ID and AirPort ID(s) can be located using AirPort Utility.
If you can let us know which version of AirPort Utility you are using, we can give you specific steps to locate the Ethernet ID.

  • Why are the jpgs that are generated in my camera better than the ones i create from the nef file in camera raw?

i shoot raw+ jpg in camera, for some reason the jpgs that come from my camera (nikon D300) always seem better than the jpgs i create
from the nef files in camera raw. i am saving at the highest quality. the jpgs from the camera seem to have more detail in highlights
better color more vibrant, sharper. could my camera be doing some enhancements to the jpgs before processing?

I had similar thoughts back when I first started shooting raw. Really, it's just a matter of editing to your personal taste.
Yes, that camera applies lots of presets before creating the jpeg, as Trevor.Dennis mentioned. Also, as he said, you can far surpass native jpegs with raw.
If you need it more vibrant, make it so. If you need to bring down the highlights, do so. Need sharpening? Apply some.
Here is one of my edits that I made a tutorial of: Sunrise Raw File Edit - Adobe Lightroom - Landscape Photography - YouTube. It is one of my less dramatic edits, but still a good one.
I don't want to clutter this thread with links, but if you take a look at my Facebook page, I put a lot of before and afters up in January and February. A Google search for Benjamin Root Photography will bring it up.
I shoot in raw, and highly recommend it.
I'll leave you with a nice NEF RAW file before and after:
BTW, D300 is a nice camera, I've used it...

  • Whats the range of apple airport express

whats the range of apple airport express.

The effective range is about 150 feet or approximately 50 meters when there are no obstructions in the signal path between the AirPort Express and the wireless device receiving the signal.
But, walls, ceilings and other obstructions absorb a great deal of the signal in a home, so it is not possible to predict how the AirPort Express might perform in your home until you try it out in your home.
In general, you would not want the signal to have to negotiate moving through more than a few walls. A ceiling, because it is much thicker than a wall, will absorb a good deal more of the signal.

  • Will the use of an Airport Express widen the range of my existing wifi?

Will the use of an Airport Express widen the range of my existing wifi?

Yes, but only if your existing WiFi is being produced by another Apple wireless router.
The AirPort Express is almost certainly not compatible if you are planning to connect using wireless only with another brand of wireless router.

My airport express is 10 years old and I get the message that this version of airport utility (6.2) doesn't support my base station? What to do?

    What to do?
    Two Options:
    1) Buy a new AirPort Express, which will be supported.
    2) Try a workaround....not supported by Apple.....to install AirPort Utility 5.6 on the Mac using the Mountain Lion operating system and use the 5.6 application to administer the old AirPort Express.  See this thread for more details:

  • I am looking to set up the airport express in my room to be linked off the others, but have its own password, is this possible? if so what do i do?

i am convinced that i am able to set up my airport express in my room to be linked off the base station (airport extreme) wirelessly and have a separate password and name, such as for my room tkbowers room, instead of tkbowers wifi

No. not when you extend.. when you extend it is the same wireless all the way through.. same name.. same password..
The base station name is different but how relevant is that??

Airport express / extreme / Time Capsule Range
Can anyone please tell me what is the approximate range of Apple Airport Products.
While doing sell in Apple store customer always ask us this question and we don't had any answer for it.
So please if anyone has the answer do reply on this.

The range is about 50 meters or 150 feet.....but this assumes that the AirPort is being used in a very large open space like a aircraft hangar.....with no obstructions in the signal path.
Chances are, your home is laid out a bit differently, so without knowing a number of variable factors like.....
    1) How many walls there will be in the signal path between wireless devices
    2) The actual construction type of the walls, ceilings, etc
    3) Heavy furniture, large mirrors, etc. in the signal path
4 ) Other wireless networks around your home
    5) Other wireless devices like cordless phones, BlueTooth devices, etc.
It would be impossible to tell you what the actual range might be in your home.
In general, assuming normal modern home construction, you would not want the wireless signal to pass through more than 2 or 3 walls....since each wall will absorb on average about 15-25% of the wireless signal. A ceiling will absorb even more because of its thickness.

  • I have installed Airport Extreme on my iMac, but want to extend the wireless network with Airport Express. Everything is fine until I try to select Extend the wireless network.  I select Extend Wireless network but have no success. Ideas?

I have installed Airport Extreme on my iMac, but want to extend the wireless to rooms with a weak signal.  The internet connection is fine with the basic setup. As soon as I go into Airport Utility to select Extend Wireless Network and fill in what I believe is proper information, I get an error message that Airport Extreme no longer has an IP address, the internet connection is broken, and under Wireless, that there is a wireless network in existence that can't be found. Rebooting the modem only brings the Airport Extreme back to the starting gate so that the internet is once again available.  I assumed (naively) that with the All Mac All-the-Time context, adding Airport Express would truly be Plug and Play.   I got the plug, but no play.  I asked a Comcast technical specialist about it and he said that I needed to reset the Airport Express settings back to their default, factory status.  I looked that process up online and found out that the way to do that was to hold down the reset button, then plug Airport Express into the socket and wait for the green light to flash four times.  Then wait 45 seconds and the default settings will return.  I did all that, only to find out that after the initial flash of green, green never appeared again.  I got a fast flashing yellow light, followed by the light going off.  Apparently this didn't reset it properly.  So, after hours trying to get this system to work, I appeal to someone who can see through this mess and provide the key to success!

Let's see if I can get this straight.
You have an Airport Extreme base station that is set to "Create a wireless network" and you have the box checked for "allow this network to be extended"....
Then you have an Airport Express that is set to "Extend a wireless network" which you selected the name of your network in the box...
    Correct?
    See this Apple document:

The wireless unit on the right of the diagram can be either of the newer Apple base stations.

  • HT1731 Extending music range using 2 Airport Expresses.

Hello, I have an APE (airport express) connected to an amp which drives speakers in a remote location.  This location is too far away for the APE to broadcast to. With a 2nd APE am I able to extend the range and therefore control the music from the remote location? Any advice well received.

Next in line, about 35 feet away, Airport Express, FW Version 7.6.1
Last in chain, another 35 feet away, Airport Express, FW Verson 7.6.1
The "remote" devices in Apple's "Extend a wireless network" setup all connect directly to the main router...in this case, it would be the Time Capsule.
The setup works like the hub and spokes of a wheel. The Time Capsule would be the hub and each AirPort Express resides at the end of a spoke. A device at the end of a spoke cannot communicate with another device at the end of another spoke. It communicates directly to the Time Capsule.
Remember that an "extending" device can only extend the bandwidth (speed) of the signal that it receives. It can help provide more signal strength.....but it cannot make the signal that it receives go faster. Placement is critical.
If you had only one Express, a good location might be approximately half the distance from the Time Capsule to the general area that needs more wireless coverage.
Chances are, the second Express is receiving such a weak (and slow) signal, that it cannot do anything to help. It is like a copy machine trying to copy a very poor image. You may well be better off eliminating the most distant Express and trying things that way.
Things get more complicated when you add in obstructions like walls. Even a typical interior sheetrock wall will absorb 15-20% of the signal or more, so after a few walls the signal has already lost approximately half of the strength...and speed.

  • How many airport express can I add to my network for the purpose of using the airport express to send audio signal to different rooms in the house? I'm interested I'm running about six different zones.

How many airport express can I add to my network for the purpose of using the airport express to send audio signal to different rooms in the house? I'm interested I'm running about six different zones.
What I'm looking to do is to have self powered in ceiling speakers in every room in my house with out having to run wires to every room to carry the audio signal. I would like to use the airport express to do the job of carting the audio signal.
Here's my set up now I have an airport extreme and one airport express that I use to carry audio to one room.

FWIW. I have used up to four AirPort Express Base Stations (AX) for streaming sucessfully in pretty much the way you have described. I didn't have a need to try more so I can't attest that more would or would not work.

  • Do I have to use airport extreme to be a main network if I want to use Airport express extend my wifi range

Do I have to use airport extreme to be a main network if I want to use Airport express extend my wifi range.

You cannot extend wifi from a different brand router..
    Only apple to apple.
But the apple router does not have to be the main router.. it can be in bridge.. as long as it is creating a wireless network it will work fine.
