What is the replacement cost of a 250Go hard disk (McBook Pro Intel Core Duo 2009)

My computer does'nt run anymore. The cause seems to be a failure in the hard ware. Can anybody give me an idea of the cost for the replacement of the internal device (it used to be a 250 Go Hitachi hard disk).
Thanks a lot

  • What is the most effective way to get my imac 2 ghz intel core duo 2 10.4.11 to be able to run 10.5 and sync with my iphone 4s?

What is the most effective way to get my imac 2 ghz intel core duo 2 10.4.11 to be able to run 10.5 and sync with my iphone 4s?

As your Mac should run Snow Leopard provided it has at least 1GB memory, that would be a good deal easier and very much cheaper than trying to find a 10.5 install disc.
Snow Leopard costs $30 approx from the online Apple store (£26 if you're in UK)
You'll need to update Tiger to 10.4.11 with the combo installer first (unless you're just erasing the disc and starting fresh) You can then update SL from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 with its combo installer.
For comparison, 10.5 Leopard is currently running about $130 from Apple (if still available) and more on Amazon etc.

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

  • My computer is a MacBook Pro Intel core duo, and I need to know if I can run the new Lion OS?

My computer is a MacBook Pro Intel core duo, and I need to know if I can run the new Lion OS?  The Apple web says must have Intel Core 2 Duo. Please advise. Not knowledgeable enough to know if not having the 2 between Core and Duo is a stopper.  Appreciate any guidance.

The difference between a Core Duo and a Core 2 Duo is a show stopper when it comes to running Lion.  The Core Duo is still only a 32 bit chip, but the Core 2 Duo is a 64 bit chip.  You need the 64 bit chip to run Lion.

  • What is the best way to connect a hard disk?

Hi. I want to buy a hard disk (not a NAS device) and plug it into my Airport Extreme in order to share data between two Mac computers, and to stream iTunes content to my Apple TV.
One option is to purchase a hard drive (say, a 2TB Hitachi G-Technology drive) and connect it to the USB port on the back of the Apple Extreme. The other option is to purchase a drive with an ethernet connection (say, a 2TB Lacie drive) and connect it to an ethernet port on the Apple Extreme.
Which is the better option? Will I see any significant difference in performance accessing the data on the hard drive from my Mac computers via the USB option versus the ethernet option? Is either option better for streaming movies from the hard drive to my Apple TV?
    Thank you.

In the second case what you'd have actually is a NAS. Apple's AirPort routers aren't known for fast file sharing. The NAS option might be faster.

I could be wrong, but an AppleTV may not be able to access content directly from a network drive. It may require that a Mac serve as an intermediary.

  • Replace hard drive iMac 20" intel core duo

How to do it? (see title)

Very carefully.. It is not easy and a lot of other things can go wrong.

Study the iFixit step by step Hard Drive Replace DIY several times before digging in.
As a precaution, be warned that the iSight/Mic cable, Display cables, SATA cable, Sensor cables and all of the Board connections are very brittle from heat and age.
On the up side: I have had real good luck using the WD Caviar Blue Hard Drives in the Early Core Duo models, they run cooler and quieter than the OEM Hard Drives.

  • The fn key and movement keys on a MacBookPro 2 GHz Intel Core Duo

This is my first notebook computer so it may be obvious, but I cannot figure out how to use the fn key in combination with movement keys. While the fn home (right arrow) and end keys work, if you add any other command keys, like ctrl, shift, option, cmd the fn key seems not to function. For example shift-home (fn-left arrow-shift) which should extend the selection to the beginning of the line just functions as shift-left arrow. When I attach an external keyboard everything works as it should.
Actually, having played with things a bit just now, things seem to work oddly. If I hit shift (and hold it) then fn (and hold) and then left arrow, things work as they should, but if I hit fn (and hold) then shift (and hold) and then left arrow, it reacts as though I hit shift and left arrow only.
Is this normal (if it is it is strange to me)?
MacBookPro 2 GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

my guess is a bug in the keyboard driver, maybe if
you report it to apple they will fix it, it looks
just like something that was overlooked during testing
That sounds like a good idea, but how does one report bugs to apple? There is nothing on the site that makes it obvious.

  • Why the MBP Intel Core Duo left out of the Lion Upgrade?

I was looking forward to the upgrade but today i found out that my MacBook Pro (Intel Core Duo) from 2007 was left out of the Lion Upgrade list. Why? is it because it's a 32bit CPU?

  • What is the typical cost of replacing the cooling fan the laptop is HP Pavillion DV6 6165tx.

What is the typical cost of replacing the cooling fan in a
laptop computer ? (In India in Indian Rupees)?
The laptop is HP Pavillion DV6 6165tx. The cost means
    fan cost plus labour charges.

    Hi,
You should know this better than us. Normally part is around $40 (more or less) and labour can be $50 to $200. I would charge this for $400 (minimum) or free.
    Regards.

  • Can you get a battery replacement at an Apple store while you wait? What would the rough cost be, out of warranty?

Can you get a battery replacement at an Apple store while you wait? What would the rough cost be, out of warranty?

I am not sure what device you are trying to replace the battery on, but usually the battery is at least 30% of the cost of the device from what I have read. Apple likes to keep a monopoly on batteries I think. I have never seen them replace a battery at the store, usually they have to ship it out. You can find batteries for sale online, but you will have to crack the device open yourself.

If under warranty and the iPOd is defective, Apple will replace the iPod ant no cost.  Otherwise they will excahnge the iPod for a refurbished one for a flat price depending upon the capacity, for a 4G it is $99, $149, or $199.
