What is the thumb64segment.jpg file, and why so big?

Ok, I finally got my MacBook Pro (first mac) got all my photos approx.7-8k worth into iPhoto. Can someone tell me what are the:
thumb64segment.data
thumb32segment.data
thumbJPGsegment.data
files and why are they in hundreds of MB, and one is ~1.5GB?

Thanks toad. You might be right about the color profile, I imported all my photos into iPhoto yesterday and I had left the add colorsync profile checkbox clicked--I'm still trying to figure out exactly what it does and if I should have done that in the first place.
As a side note, and while I have your attention (since you are so good at answering iphoto questions).
I have a Sony V1 camera, which I assume uses the RGB or the sRGB color profile. When I get home tonight, I would like to software calibrate my monitor to 2.2 gama and 6500k white point. What else do I need to do to make sure that my photos are the same accross the board with respect to colorsync/color profile.
I rarely print photos (never at home), usually through imagestation.com (maybe through apple's service from now on, but I doubt it). I understand that assuming these services dont discard the color profile embeded into the image file I send them, I should aim to send them the file with the same color profile as is used by their printers? correct?
Is there anything else I'm missing here?
Is there any other benefit to embeding a color profile into an image? Like, if I email the img to someone, will the image look the same on their screen? (I assume not, because they will a) not have the screen calibrated the same way, and b) well, I'm sure there's another reason.
PPS. I did the search on this group earlier today and read a bunch of threads on this, but I"m still not clear.

I don't know what this plug does, but it is inside the Logic.app package, so deleting it would probably break more than it'll fix. There is a whole series of MA-things inside Logic Pro.

Does this crashing also happen in newly created projects, or just in one?
Have you tried refreshing the preferences ? (Quit Logic, move the file com.apple.logic.pro.plist from Users/'you'/Library/Preferences to the Desktop, start Logic and see if the problem's gone. If it didn't help, you can quit Logic again and put the old .plist file back. If it did work, in Logic set all the preferences as you want them, check everything still works, then quit Logic and make a copy of the .plist file and keep that in your documents folder. You now have an uncorrupted fresh .plist file with all your personal settings, that you can now use to replace the active file, in case of future trouble.
If refreshing prefs doesn't help, reinstall just the Logic application. Download & install AppCleaner http://www.pure-mac.com/diag.html#appcleaner and drop the Logic application on it, empty your trash and reinstall Logic.

What programme creates a .ggi file and why would it be used?

Have been asked to create a .ggi file and I have never come across this file extension before.
I have googles it and got as much information as possible but can't seem to find the answer - why would it be used, what is it used for and what software creates it.
Also, not sure where to ask this question so apologies if this is in the wrong forum!

We can't know. File extensions are completely arbitrary and if whoever requested the format can't tell you what he/ she needs, then we can't either. If it were a commonly used file format we would probably not, but since we don't, it is probably a proprietary format associated with some lesser known or even exotic software. That being so, the request to provide such a file is actually even pretty stupid, since the only way to create it would be to have access to that program. Causal loop.

What is this .DS Store file and why does it keep coming back?

So a few weeks ago I noticed this .ds store hidden file showing up on my desktop of my MacBook Pro, I deleted it, so it's over with right? WRONG!!! Could not have been more wrong. This file now shows up in every single folder I open on my computer. I've deleted it form the same folder numerous times only for it to reappear again and again and again. It's even showing up on my USB Flash Drives. I've reached a point where I'd rather throw this computer out the window then have to keep dealing with this insufferable file. Can someone please explain to me what the heck is going on? And more importanly on I can actually fix this problem so I DO NOT have to deal with it anymore? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Side Note: I have already used a bunch of different programs and none have yet to work. Everyone keeps recommending TinkerTools and it doesn't do squat.

This will explain the .ds store file. As you've found out there's one for every file. If you don't want to see those hidden files, don't display hidden files.
To make hidden file hidden, bring up terminal, enter "defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO" (don't type the quote marks), then force quit finder and relaunch it. If that doesn't work, change NO to FALSE.

The protocol is the string that goes before the "://", so for files it would be "file".
Your guess for mpegs is correct, and you can check MIME types here.

Pretty much any number or a space character. Punctuation does too, in theory, but I'd advise to limit it to hyphens and underscores. Periods are OK in the middle of file names but you won't be able to start a file name with one at the Finder level since that would actually hide the file.

it is new tool for ME version and it is used with the new menu "Tasmeem"
Second it is usages
it allows users to move blocks of text, diacritics and even individual dots while preserving textual integrity and the Unicode data structure. Moreover, one can colour diacritics individually for book covers and illustrations. so you have control all over the words and dotes position
Third i wonder why it is not exist on the ID Help even though it has a great role with who works on Arabic Text

What does the process "GAMED" do and why wants my computer to give notice whenever I start it up?

Whenever I start-up my computer "Little Snitch" will tell me that a Process called "GAMED" wants to make contact with 4 IP adresses. I have blocked them. But what is this process responsible for or is it only marketing from Apple?

iPad apps are designed specifically for the iPad and will not run on the iPhone or iPod Touch. iPhone/iPod apps will run on the iPad, but will only take up an iPhone sized portion of the iPad screen (though you get a 2x button which effectively doubles each pixel in both directions so may appear pixelated). There are also 'universal' apps (which have a '+' symbol against them in the store) which have processing in them to recognise the device that they are on and will tailor the display accordingly (so will make use of the iPad's larger screen).

What application is set to open PDF files? If you CNTRL click on the file and open with Preview does the problem occur?
If not change the default application to open PDF files to Preview.
You can do this by highlighting the file and either use CMD i or Get Info , this will open a window with the info on the file with an option to change the application that opens the file.
That's all I can think of.

a common problem is that you don't have permission to upload those files, but it is an easy fix
1) Finder
2) Users(it should have the account name on it)
3) pictures
4) right click on iphoto library then click info
5 on the bottom of the new window there should be a sharing and permissions tab
6) make sure you have permission to read & write
The only other problem I can think is that you are having problems with hard drive space. if so you might want to clean up your hard drive to free up some space. please let me know if that worked for you.
