  • MDM between different versions of SAP

    Hi,
Scenario: I have two SAP systems. A is 4.6C and B is ECC 6.0
Is it possible to use one MDM between the two system?
    E.g.
    (SAP 4.6C) <--> (SAP MDM) <--
    > (SAP ECC 6.0)

    Hi Riaan,
Yes, i think you can use MDM for different versions of SAP. As you know Data communicates between R/3 to MDM using PI, so in PI during Configuring Scenario, when you Transfer Integration Scenario from Integration Repository, you have option to use Version Number for Same SAP System during Assign Services.
Also in Integration Builder:Design of PI , you can use Import software components Version which can be transfer from System Landscape Directory (SLD) using Tools from Menu Bar.
This is because you have Registered SAP Sytem in SLD.
Also, In SLD you have Software Catalogs under this Software Component here you have registered software component with Versions for the Same SAP Product.
    Hope it will help you,

  • Transports between 2 different versions of SAP

We are developing a product on ECC 6.0 (IDES) system and I'm trying to figure out how we can delivery the product to our customers.  We have our own development namespace in SAP.  Some of our customers are on ECC 6.0 and some are still on 4.7.  Can we send a transport that was created in ECC 6.0 to a 4.7 system?
    Thank you,

    Hi,
It is possible to transport between 2 different versions but it is dangerous : you have to know exactly what you are transporting and the dependencies with standard SAP code.
So, it is much safer to recreate your source code in a developement system of the new version and create new transport orders from there...

  • Versions of SAP

    Hi all,
could you please let me know different versions of SAP from begining to latest version.

The differences between most releases is so big that it is not possible to tell you what the differences are.  To give you some idea of the scope of what you're asking, look at this [link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_46c/helpdata/en/8e/b40d35b4909a67e10000009b38f83b/frameset.htm] and consider the size of the release notes between 46B and 46C.

Yes i am on x86_64 bit Windows 2003 SP1, 4.6D kernel is running in 32-bit mode.Database sits on a diffrent host and is upgraded to Oracle 10.2.0.2.
In that case , do i need install PREPARE in 32 bit mode so that all executables in put\exe will be working in 32 bit mode.
Could you please also look into note,
    906205 - Upgrading SAP system <= 4.6 on x86_64 Windows
Actions after PREPARE (before you start the upgrade)
    1. -
    2. Unpack ORACLE Client 10.2 into directories \usr\sap\put\exe and \usr\sap\<SID>\sys\exe\run.
    a) Mount the CD which contains the ORACLE 10.2 client software and change to subdirectory OCL_WINDOWS_X86_64.
    b) Start a command prompt and change into directory \usr\sap\put\exe.
    c) Type 'sapcar.exe -xvf <DIR>\OCL10264.SAR'.
    d) Start a command prompt and change into directory \usr\sap\<SAPSID>\sys\exe\run.
    e) Type 'sapcar.exe -xvf <DIR>\OCL10264.SAR'
As per the note, 64 bit client has to uncarred "After Prepare before Upgrade", since the tools in /usr/sap/put/exe are not able to connect to the database since they are in 64 bit mode, and my Initialization phase fails, i uncarred the client into put/exe during PREPARE.
Please guide. What problems should i anticipate in the PREPARE phase when it builds shadow instance.
    Govind.

    Hi experts,
is it possible to install 2 different versions of SAP Netweaver CE 7.1 EHP1 on same computer?
We have installed SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 EHP1 SP3 with MII 12.1. Now we want to test MII 12.2 (on the same computer) which needs NetWeaver CE 7.1 EHP1 SP5.

Its not a problem. You can install 2 CE systems of different version on same host. Make sure the OS is compatible with both.

  • How to cover the new in Java 5

    Hi java community :)
I am a Java programmer since 4 years which means that I worked with 1.3 then with 1.4 and there was no big difference betwen them. But, with Java 1.5 I think I need some articles or tutorials that explain what are the differnces between 1.4 and 1.5....
I hope that I find some here
    thanks

I am also making the transition from 1.4 to Java 5.
Of all the language additions in Java 5, the following 2 are having the most profound effect on the way I think about and use Java
Generics - I have been waiting for these for ages. Now I can tailor existing classes at compile time that do
a lot to ensure type safety at compile time without having to actually "roll my own" implementations.
You should take a good look at Generics, go search on google with "java generics", floods of articles out there.
Annotations. The language feature that takes the concepts of "marker" interfaces and standard code
patterns (JavaBean pattern for properties for example) and allows you to place the metadata of your choice in a class.
While this may not be something that you will want to use, you should get a good grounding in Annotations
because you will come across them in other peoples code. Helps if you understand what they mean.
Syntactic sugar: Under this rubric you will find things like autoboxing, enhanced iteration for arrays and collections and varargs.
While autoboxing is a nice idea, IMHO it is something that you really should not use simply because it is a performance killer, at least in this version of Java.
Enhanced iteration over arrays and collections. You will love them, enough said.
Varargs. I am torn about varargs, I fear that varargs are going to be over used and, due to this over use, cause a lot of maintenance issues in the future.
Saves you having to create arrays, populate them and pass them as a single parameter to a method yourself. Still, because they are a language feature you will need to find out about them.
New packages in Java 5. IMHO I think the java.util.concurrent package is the most useful and welcome introduction, offering a stunning array of out of the
box classes that enable you to work in a multi-threaded environment much more easily.
Threading in Java has always been easy, solving a lot of the problems that Threading introduces into an application has now (almost) reached the same level of simplicity.
You are still going to need to know what you are doing however you are relieved of the burden of inventing wheels again.
Management APIs. Running a close second to the concurrency classes, the java.lang.management
package now enables you to monitor your application and also to detect and react to critical conditions
(running low on heap for instance) programmatically in a consistent fashion.
Along with the new tools that Java 5 provides (JConsole is cool), you can now remotely monitor an application and keep track of how the JVM is running.
Learning to use the management package to your advantage is going to be a must for serious application developers in the future.

  • What is the difference in 4.0, 4.6 and ECC versions of SAP?

    Hi
What is the difference in 4.0, 4.6 and ECC versions of SAP?
    Thanks

SAP R/3 is basic ERP that every one keeps talking about which has got different versions ike 3.1, 4.0, 4.6, 4.7. The latest one in this is the ECC which again has got two versions in the market - ECC 5.0 and ECC 6.0.
NetWeaver is the techology stack which gives other solutions that work with R/3 and also provide a technology platform for the ERP to work.
EP - Enterprise portal is a part of the NetWeaver stack and can be used to provide web interface for the user apart from the standard protal functionalities.
You can find more details of NetWeaver here

  • What is the best way to save different versions of a project?

I am working on a documentary with hundreds of hours of footage. I've been told that to avoid file corruption, I need to regularly save different version of the project. I've done some research and there appears to be different ways to do this.
In Lisa Brenneis's FCP book, she suggests using "Save As" to protect one's work (renaming the old copy with a version number, and using the same name for the most updated version). This makes sense to me, since this would avoid FCP creating new capture folders every time I change the name of my project. However, I'm wondering if there is a difference between doing Brenneis' technique or duplicating the project.
Are there different schools of thoughts on this? Does anyone have a system that works for them that they recommend? I've done research and I can't find anything on this topic, other than issues with backing up (I'm working with several hard drives - but what I'm most concerned about is avoiding file corruption and making sure my media isn't all over the place).
    Thanks for sharing!

    Good topic!
I use the technique of popping over to Finder and using command-D
to make a copy every once in a while. Then at the end of the day,
I'll make a copy of the session to another disk. Whenever I've done
a lot of work that I never want to lose, I take a copy to another location.
If a backup is super-important, be sure to test it!
It only takes a minute to quit FCP, and double-click on the backup.
When I return to work the next day, after making sure my project opens,
I delete all the "copy" files, then make a new one and the process repeats.
When I output the edit for others to work on or approve, I will make
a special copy of the project with the date encoded in the file name,
    Japanese-style (e.g. MyProject_2009-01-22.fcp and RoughEdit_2009-01-22.mov),
then I never touch that file. Doing the dates Japanese-style means
that they will be organized chronologically in Finder.
Keeping these intermediate projects means that people can refer
to very specific times on specific versions, and I can find exactly
    what they are talking about.
As far as media goes, most people do not back up tape,
because it's such a pain (you need two drives). People tend
to keep their tapes in a box somewhere. This can work OK
if you never use Capture Now.
Since capturing from tape is such a time-consumer,
and since I don't usually work with tape anyway,
I focus on good disk backup. Ideally I'll have a disk
and a backup at home, and a copy of the media files
    at another location.
Be sure to keep the backups organized and named
carefully so you can FIND what you are looking for
if you need to. Adding a little text file in your folder
explaining stuff is not a bad idea.
People talk a lot about media failure, and yes all media
will fail someday, but I use backups mostly because
of my mistakes, like deleting the wrong file or something
    stupid like that.
Be sure to back up all the other little files you might be
using in a project, like Filemaker databases, graphics files,
    important emails, hours logs, etc.
It's good that you are thinking about this important topic.
