What's the best way to clone to another Mac with the same system id so I do not have to re-authorize plugins/programs?

I was told in a different thread that cloning is my answer for my problem. Once learning that, I checked around and saw people suggesting Super Duper over the Disk Utility option, saying that I will not have to re-authorize my programs. That it's the easiest way to clone one computer to the next without the hassle of having to reauthorizing all my programs and plugins. Is this true?

Clones are clones. SuperDuper does nothing special that Disk Utility does not do.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new computer. Source means the old computer.
You can connect the two via Firewire cable if both computers have Firewire ports. If not, then you will need to use an external hard drive as an intermediary. Clone the old computer's drive to the external drive. Then restore the clone from the external drive to the drive in the new computer.
Restoring the clone simply involves switching the Source and Destination.

Looking at NI's FieldPoint Demobox.vi example, the session is closed by wiring the FP Refnum out from the FP Create Tag vi for the AI module to the FP Close vi. The FP Open.vi provides a FP Refnum in the form of a data cluster. The cluster contains two elements; a server refnum and a tag refnum. Coming out of the FP Open, only the server refnum has a value, the tag refnum is created when the FP Create Tag.vi is processed. Thus all FP refnums in a process have the same server refnum but different tag refnums. The FP Close.vi uses the server refnum to close the server and ignores the tag refnum so it does not matter which particular refnum was used to close the server. The thing to be careful of is if you close on refnum, you close all refnums. At this point, any reads/writes/advises will result in error 32804 (Invalid IA handle specified).

Obviously the computer is limited in space and I was wondering whether I should move my "user" folder which will include documents, pictures, videos, etc onto the pegasus. If you are going to use an SSD as a boot drive together with your existing HDD as the "data" drive, here's what you can do.
After installing the SSD you will need to partition and format the SSD using Disk Utility. Then, install OS X on the SSD. After OS X has been installed boot from the SSD. Use Startup Disk preferences to set the SSD as the startup volume.
Open Users & Groups preferences. Click on the lock icon and authenticate. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your user account listing in the sidebar and select Advanced Options from the context menu.
You will see a field labeled "Home dir:" At the right end you will see a Change button. Click on it. In the file dialog locate the Home folder now located on the HDD (HDD/Users/account_name/.) Select the folder, click on Open button. Restart the computer as directed.
When the computer boots up it will now be using the Home folder located on the HDD.
Another more technical method involving the Terminal and aliases is discussed in depth here: Using OS X with an SSD plus HDD setup - Matt Gemmell. This is my preferred approach because I can select which of the Home's folders I want on the HDD and which I don't want. For example, I like to keep the Documents and Library folders on the SSD because I access their content frequently.
Be sure you retain the fully bootable system on your HDD in case you ever need it.

I might be in the wrong category/subforum, but I dont really know where to post my question exactly.
A few months ago I bought my first MBP after owning several ipods, iphones and ipads, an Apple TV and an Airport Extreme.
My wife and I have several DVD's stored on our shelf, but I want to have them in my library to make sure we won't lose the classics or damage them with a scrath. For this I am converting them to MP4 format so they will be importable into iTunes, but here is my question:
Since we have a lot of DVD's I want to convert, my hard disk wont be able to store all dvd's along with my documents and music, so I was wondering if there is an option to connect an external hard drive to my Airport Extreme, store all MP4 files on that hard disk and make a direct connection to my library so I can stream them from the hard disk to the Apple TV or MBP.
Since I'm quite new to the real iOS experiance (I'm a formerly windows user), I'm still trying to explore the features and posibilities. If anybody knows a better way to convert DVD's to a hard disk, preserve space on the MBP but have the option to stream to other devices, I am all ears

It sounds like you have the AirPort Extreme configured as the "main" router on your network.
If that is the case, connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule
Power up the Time Capsule
Connect another spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule, then click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons and make sure that the setting for Wireless Mode = Off
Click the Internet icon, the click the Internet tab
Insure that the setting for Connect Using = Ethernet
Insure that the setting for Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click the Update button at the lower right of the window and wait a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart
Then power cycle the entire network by powering everything off....order of power down does not matter
Wait a minute
Power up the modem first, and let it run a few minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme next and let it run a full minute
Power up the Time Capsule next and let it run a full minute
Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until the entire network is back up
You will need to reset the backup path from your Mac to the Time Capsule to get backups going again
Open System Preference (gear icon on the dock)
Open Time Machine
Click Select Disk
Click the Time Capsule to highlight it
Click Use for Backups or Use Disk and backups should begin again in a few minutes
If you do not want to leave the Mac connected to the Time Capsule by Ethernet, remove the Ethernet cable from the Mac to the Time Capsule, then log on to the AirPort Extreme wireless network

I just bought a new 500GB drive for my G4. What's the best way to clone my boot drive?
Is there a way to put the new drive on the buss as a second drive and then copy everything from my boot drive to the new drive? How do I make the new drive bootable?
Or
Do I have to install OSX on the new drive, put the old boot drive on the buss as a second drive and migrate everything to the new drive with the Utilities Migration Assitant program?
Are there programs available to make this easier? Where & how much?

Dr. Smoke's FAQ Backup and Recovery has excellent advice on developing a backup strategy.
You already have a larger extrnal HDD (Hopefully it is firewire?) The next step is to format and partition the HDD. (see step-by-step below). And thirdly you will need a good cloning utility. Carbon Copy Cloner has already been suggested, and the latest version is excellent. I, personally, prefer SuperDuper for its ease of use and efficiency. Both are great tools and relatively simple to use.
I mentioned the hope that you have a firewire. One of the wonderful benefits of using an external firewire HDD for backing up is that you can make a bootable clone. This gives you an emergency boot drive in case of a problem. It also gives you an external device for running diagnostics and repairs from the extnernal to the computer and vice-versa.
Congratulations on taking the first step toward securing your computer and your data!
Formatting, Partitioning Zeroing a Hard Disk Drive
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
Select language
Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
Option for formatting an External HDD
Connect external HDD to computer
Turn on external HDD
Start up computer and log in
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and launch DU.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD. External HDDs usually have more than one. See Dr. Smoke’s FAQ Backup and Recovery for tips on partitioning external HDD
Note 2: For more partitions than one, after you have selected the number of partitions you can adjust the size of the partition by selecting the top partition and typing in the size; then move down if more adjustments need to be made..)
Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
Select Erase tab
Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
Optional: Select on Security Options button (Tiger) Options button (Panther & earlier).
Select Zero all data. (This process will map out bad blocks on your HDD. However, it could take several hours. If you want a quicker method, don't go to Security Options and just click the Erase button.)
Click OK.
Click Erase button
Quit Disk Utility.

I'm new to Apple support communities having just bought my first Macbook Pro (a 17" 2.5GHz i7 model) and this is my very first community post.
Im a bit of a Hi-Fi enthusiast, so, with my new MacBook Pro I've taken the opportunity of completely reloading my iTunes library in high quality Apple Lossless format. Took a while but now I've completed the task Im pleased I've done it.
My question is, what is the best way to connect a Macbook Pro to a high quality Hi-Fi preamp - my Hi-fi system is musical Fidelity, and the pre amp (an A5 CR Pre amp) and this pre amp, which has superb audio quality, only has analogue phono inputs ?
I'm interested to understand what both the wired and wireless connection options are. I'm guessing one option must be to use the headphone output, but I have no idea if the output from the headphone socket on my new macbook (which is presumably designed to drive headphones) would be at a suitable level for a phono line level input ?
Ive also read a few comments about using digital connection - and my second question would be - what is the audio digital connection on my macbook ?
Aplogies if this question has been asked lots of times before but I've looked through some previous posts and can't find any answers in simple and straightforward language concentrating on the issue of connecting a MacBook Pro to an analogue phono pre amp input ?

Look at the back of the reciever and see what your connection options are, the front headphone jack is output usually.
The Mac's analog audio in/out ports doubles as a optical in/out ports.
The analog won't over power your amp, it's just a headphonejack, like a powered mic, just enough power to get the signal to the destination in one piece.
Since you have a analog amp, your stuck with inferior analog connections, however you mentioned you wish to listen to the best sound quality of your lossless music.
To do that your going to need a decent surround sound system with Toslink optical import jacks, a Toslink stereo jack to regular Toslink adapter, Toslink cable and enable the optical output in your System Preferences >Sound
Another method is to use a Airport Express, it also has duo analog/opical out port. Then set up the Airport Express for iTunes streaming using the Airport Utility, then in iTunes setup the lower right corner one can set the connection.
I recommned a Harmon Kardon surround sound system, with their 100 watt satelight speakers and the 200 watt subwoofer. Enable the "concert hall" and other neat effects which will turn your 2.0 (stereo) iTunes music into 4 channel speaker sound filling the room with music and sending the lower channels to the subwoofer.
It will likely bring tears to your eyes that you can actually hear the full quality of your music as intended, I almost quarranty you will never want listen to music on a crappy iPhone or iPod again.
If a surround sound system is out of your budget, you can get by using the Harmon Kardon "Go Play" portable stereo and a analog stereo cable.
If your going to use your analog amp to power reference speakers, then there are various analog adapters of all sorts to make the appropriate connections once you know what they are, check out Radio Shack online for them.

Hi Donavan,
There are two options for zeroing with the NI-9237. You can perform offset nulling and shunt calibration with a strain task, or if you use custom excitation you can use software compensation.
See the Bridge Balancing, Offset Nulling section in the Load, Force, and Torque Measurements tutorial. Take a measurement before the strain is applied and subtract this from all subsequent measurements. See the above tutorial to consider the tradeoff in accuracy between these two options.

What's the best way to completely wipe my Mac?

I'm selling my 17" iMac G5 as I've just replaced it with a shiny new 24" Intel iMac [droool!]. Anyway, I want to know what software or what's the best way to wipe/clear my Mac and start from scratch so the person buying it doesn't have all my rubbish on there - plus can't retrieve any of my private files.
What have you guys done in the past in situations like this? I know you can do a clean install off the original installations CD's but will this be enough to get ride of all preferene files and folders etc etc?

The easiest way is to put a new installation of your OS onto the Mac.
Insert your Install disk 1 into to the drive and then Restart, and hold down the C key to take you to the installation windows.
Select your language, the start up Volume and choose Erase and Install.
At the point your registration process starts, abandon the registration, quit and eject the disk and switch of the computer.
This will allow the new user a freshly installed system, whereby they can complete the registration process themselves. Make sure you hand on the disks.
If you want to be extra thorough, you can, booted from your Install disk use Disk Utility to Zero All Data, before doing the Erase and Install described above, and if you want to be paranoid thorough, you can choose to overwrite the disk with several passes before doing the installation described first. Note this latter process can take from several hours to several days depending on the selection and the size of your internal hard drive.
