  • Gx70 is not using its dedicated gpu

    Hello everyone,
A week ago i bought a msi gx70, it al works perfect except for one thing. When i start a game, the laptop is not using its dedicated gpu (amd hd 8970) but the gpu integrated in the processor ( amd 89650 )
I've tried a lot of stuff to fix this, like disabling the onboard gpu. When i disable the onboard gpu, the pc start using a microsoft basic render drive. I also tried to uninstalll both cards and reinstall them, not working. tried going into the bios, but there is now option for me to disable the onboard gpu there.
So please, i need help because it's getting pretty frustrating.
    Thanks in advance!

OP, please let us know if those worked or not. So that we can eiher continue to help, or if it worked reply with what you did to fix the matter. So that any other users experiencing the same issue, reading this, will know what to do.
    I will, but for the moment i can't :p
I gave it back to the shop to see if they can fix it and my laptop suddenly black screened after i updated the drivers. So i hope they can find some drivers where i can just manually disable the integrated gpu.
Also, when i was playing games the power button was orange if i remember correctly, but the game was still very laggy (about 40fps on smite, which is too low for this card) and in black ops ll the fps was really unstable (immense drops from 120 to 30) i think this also shouldn't be happening with this card right? And in games where you CAN manually pick the gpu, the dedicated one was just not given as an option. Also in benchmarks the dedicated card was noticed by the benchmark, but not used for some reason (having 20fps in a benchmark with this card at medium settings).
All this concludes for me that the dedicated gpu was not processing when ingame.
This is all the information i've gathered, if you have any other thoughts of what it could be, feel free to give them.
    Regards

What settings do I need to use for an indoor basketball game?

Sit as close to the game as you can possibly be.  If you can sit on the ground on the sideline, do that.  If you are closer, you can use a shorter mm lens setting, so you can use a less expensive and/or wider aperture lens.  It can also mean a less-fast shutter to counter camera shake (though subject movement will still be an issue).  It will also mean you can crop the photo less, which improves IQ too.  It may also mean you can avoid the ugly part (the longest part) of a lens like the 70-300mm, and use the sweet spot instead.

  • What's the Downside of Not Using Creatve MediaSource (Nuvo 200 1

Hi guys... I found that installing the Creative Media Source leaves a mess on my WinXP. I've left it on but haven't been using it with my 500 MB Creative Muvo 200. I just plop a folder of classical music or 2 and several folders of BBC type spoken word programs into my player and go.
Reason for asking: I just got a GB player so I can load a wee bit more music and spoken word stuff...more choice while I'm out there!
However for this player I did not try to have it recognized by Creative MediaSource and went right to updating the player's firmware.
Then I loaded it with my stuff.
The one thing that's different is that my PC recognizes this new player as Dri've "F" (my old one is recognized as "M"). No problem... I guess
Can I uninstall the Creative Media Source?
What's the downside of not using the 2nd of 2 downloads for MediaSourcebelow)? (Installed & in use apparently with my 500 mb player)

  • Oracle not using its own explain plan

When I run a simple select query on an indexed column on a large (30 million records) table oracle creates a plan using the indexed column and at a cost of 4. However, what it actually does is do a table scan (I can see this in the 'Long Operations' tab in OEM).
The funny thing is that I have the same query in a ADO application and when the query is run from there, the same plan is created but no table scan is done - and the query returns in less than a second. However, with the table scan it is over a minute.
When run through SQL plus Oracle creates a plan including the table scan at a cost of 19030.
In another (dot net) application I used the: "Alter session set optimizer_index_caching=100" and "Alter session set optimizer_index_cost_adj=10" to try to force the optimizer to use the index. It creates the expected plan, but still does the table scan.
The query is in the form of:
"Select * from tab where indexedcol = something"
    Im using Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1.0
Any ideas as I'm completely at a loss?

    Hello
It sounds to me like this has something to do with bind variable peeking which was introduced in 9i. If the predicate is
indexedcolumn = :bind_variablethe first time the query is parsed by oracle, it will "peek" at the value in the bind variable and see what it is and will generate an execution plan based on this. That same plan will be used for matching SQL.
If you use a litteral, it will generate the plan based on that, and will generate a separate plan for each litteral you use (depending on the value of the cursor_sharing initialisation parameter).
This can cause there to be a difference between the execution plan seen when issuing EXPLAIN PLAN FOR, and the actual exectuion plan used when the query is run.
Have a look at the following example:
    tylerd@DEV2> CREATE TABLE dt_test_bvpeek(id number, col1 number)

  • Why block an account simply for not using its cred...

I use Skype every couple of weeks - but I haven't needed to make a paid call for a long time. Now when I try to, I find my account has been 'blocked' - though only for paid calls. So I can't use my credit balance without jumping through Skype's 'account unblocking' hoops and waiting for you to deign to give me access to my own money.
What possibile justification is there for blocking an account like this - not for being abused, but simply for not being used?

I think you may need to contact customer service to clarify why your account is blocked, and also to know what your possible options are . Just open the link pasted below to see the instructions on how to get in touch with customer service -

Well, I'm at my wits end with this one. I'm going to probably have to do a very painful system restore tomorrow night if I can't come up with a solution.
The infamous 'securityd' process is at it again, this time it's pegging my CPU. It differs from other common problems in that it's hardly using any RAM at all (approx. 290KB)! Regardless, one of my CPU cores is maxed out dealing with it, and if I use the System Monitor to display information, the amount of Unix System Calls is rising at a laughable rate.
I've tried the common solution to the similar issue of deleting the /var/db/CodeEquivalenceDatabase, however in this case it does nothing. Upon reboot, 'securityd' immediately begins chewing up as much CPU time as it can get its hands on. The only way to stop it from doing so is to forcibly kill the process, which of course breaks functionality with anything that requires authentication.
This is becoming VERY annoying. Does anybody have a solution other than having to perform a System Restore? That's about the only option I have left, and I'm not very happy about it.

Hi - thanks for the quick reply - my router is normally on 24/7 and I have rarely seen it disconnect.  I only ever reboot the router if there is a problem.  It was 'suggested' by BT India after I called them this morning that I should reboot the router but other than moving it to plug into the main socket it hasn't been off since Monday when I logged the fault.
As you say the noise seems high - I wasn't even asked about this when I reported the fault - but it does not get any better if I plug into the master socket so I don't think it is an issue with the internal wiring.
The crux of my post is that:-
1> Support did not seem concerned in investigating WHY the profile dropped but just requested a reset of the profile
2> After the allotted time there has not been an improvement suggesting an underlying cause
3> IP profiles seem to cause more support issues than they resolve
4> How can I get the speed improved without waiting another 63 1/2 hours?
    Regards,
    Chris Drew

  • What settings to make PAL mov file into an NTSC mov file?

I am using Compressor 3.5.3 and I want to know what the settings should be to get my PAL SD material (from mini-DV tapes) converted to a frame rate that will ultimately work with HD 30 material. I have tried one setting that said " SD 10 bit Uncompressed NTSC" and the result is useless. Huge file that will not play. My original test file was 440 MB - but the output file from Compressor is 3.13 GB! The Audio rolls on while Video is stuck on a frame...
I want to create a single timeline in FCP 7 using converted PAL SD with some HD 720 footage. First I have to get that PAL SD into NTSC. Then I have to get it to 720 x 1280 and I think I know how to do that having read a helpful article on the web.
Why FCP does not have a filter/plug-in  to enable easy conversion after all these years of people needing it built in to the program I cannot understand but here we are still struggling to get a program made out of different TV standards technologies.
If someone can tell me what setting to use in Compressor, thank you. If the verdict is that Compressor cannot deliver a decent NTSC file at a reasonable size from a PAL file, pls let me know so that I don't waste any more time.
    Thank you.

    Thank you Russ.
The DV PAL material is interlaced. The HD 720 footage is progressive I believe.
Since posting the question I have used MPEG Streamclip to do a standards conversion with the PAL material and once I had checked the box to deinterlace, the result looks okay. I have tried out scaling the result to fill a 720 x 1280 frame to match the HD material inside FCP and now I know what that will look like. Not sure yet about using the larger frame size for my project or not.
I would like to see what Compressor achieves for the PAL material doing straightforward conversion to SD NTSC so if you know what setting, under which tab, I should be applying, I will appreciate hearing it. Thanks so much!
Downsizing the HD will be the next test to run...

  • How do I turn off the tiny Shuffle-sized iPod Nano (v6 with a touch screen) when not using its iOS?

    Hello and happy new year.
I decided to use this used iPod Nano (touch screen) as an eight/8 GB flash disk/storage (FAT32). I can access the files just fine. I can always restore it back to use iOS quickly and easily if needed.
However, it never seems to turn off/sleep. I tried holding down the big button on top right (next to the two volume controls [+ and -]), but it never does anything. Also, it says "OK to disconnect." when disconnected.
So, I restored its iOS v1.2 from an old 15" MacBook Pro (2008; Mac OS X 10.5.8) onto it and can turn off easily. However, I cannot access its drive since it is not a MS FS and Windows XP Pro. SP3 asked me to format. How can I turn it off and still use it as an 8 GB USB flash disk/drive without installing and using iTunes?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hey,
Holding in the play/pause and the menu (select) button will force the iPod into disk mode. This is the stand by mode you are talking about.
To turn your iPod off properly you will want to hold down the play/pause button until the screen goes blank and then turn the hold switch on. This is cause the iPod to go to the Apple screen when it turns back on.
    Hope this helps,
    Ms D.

  • What settings to make QTs like Apple trailers?

Would anyone be kind enough to save me (more) hours of experimenting by suggesting compression/sample rates/streaming settings, so that I can put movies the size and quality of Apple's trailers on my site without them taking a week to load?!
I assume they're using streaming, but do you need to be running special server software in order to do this? I know that it's possible to stream without anything special, if your server knows how to deal with streaming files, but would it be as fast as this?
    Many thanks, dru.

I prefer the H.264 codec. It is currently the most complex QT codec but allows excellent scaling and low video data rates. On the other hand, it generally requires QT 7 for playback. However, usually go with a 23.98 frame rate (as in movie trailers) rather than the 12 fps used in the "commercials." Also, most of my work is targeted for iPod/Podcasting, so I stick with a 320 pixel width. Generally speaking, halving the display reduces the required data rate by one quarter for the same playback quality and keeping all other variable constant. Here are examples of how changing the size may improve quality.

    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
I generally use AAC Stereo 44,100 kHz at 128 kbps for iPod. Please not that the "commercials" were encoded at 44,100 kHz but only 32 kbps or 1/4 my preferred rate. If this suits your purpose, by all means go with it. In fact, if stereo is not needed, you can go with mono at 16 kbps.
    Data rate: 295.90 kbits/sec
Would tend to use a higher data rate here (like 384 kbps combined or 350 kbps video with 32 kbps audio) especially if you really plan to use the larger 640x360 display. In any case, one of the above examples splits the size difference between your 640x360 and my iPod settings to give you an idea as to the variations you might emply.

Sprite and background tracks would probably not be needed for your files in a straight, normal conversion.

  • I have filmed my subject at 2000 fps on a JVC GY-HM750E, what settings do i need to use in FCP Studio 3 to get full advantage of this footage?

So far just the usual ball dropped in water as a test...

    Hi David,
What I'm trying to achieve is super slow motion footage for a webfilm I'm doing... Showing lots of detail very slowly...
Any ideas how I can do this?
    steve
You are confusing shutter speed with frames per second, an all too common issue around here. Super slow motion requires fast shutter speeds to prevent motion blur on each exposure but it also requires more than 60 discrete images per second. In ye olden days of shooting film, slow motion was achieved by overcranking the camera. We'd shoot 7s frame per second, 3 times the normal rate of 24fps. This required 8 times as much f-stop because we were shooting at 1/3 the shutter speed, too, 1/120th second instead of 1/40th or so. When the film was projected at normal speed, 24fps, each second of real time was stretched to three seconds of film time.
You can use Motion's optical flow, which uses predictive pixel mapping, to help you stretch out some media but the results are not the same as using the correct acquisition techniques. You can also buy third party effects like Twixtor.
