What video formats can iMovie edit?

I was wondering what video formats iMovie can edit? Such as mpeg 2, mpeg 4, etc...
the specific reason I'm asing is that I'm considering having some vhs tapes converted to DVD's, which I'm assuming would convert them to mpeg 2...and was wondering if they would be editable in iMovie?

Hi Vapor_action:
Stop!
Seriously-you will be MUCH better off if you have them convert them to DV tape for import to iMovie. DVD uses a different compression and it is a real pain to get them into iMovie. In fact, it is easier to get the VHS to iMovie than DVD in my opinion.

    Basic forum etiquette, search before posting.  Of course a simple google search would have easily revealed the information as well.

  • What video types can I edit in iMovie?

    I used a camcorder that resulted in MPG video files. I'm using MPEG Streamclip to convert them. If I convert them to .mov, the files sizes are huge. MPEG-4 comes out as a reasonable size. What other video file types can I edit in i Movie?

  • What video format are imovie videos?

    I am submitting an application video to something and it has to be either mpg, mpeg, flv, avi, mp4, wmv, mov, 3gp, or m4v. If iMovie isn't in one of those formats, can I change it to one of them? Any/All help is appreciated!

    You do understand that all of these formats are just wrappers for video codec?  You want to make sure you know the resolution, bit rate, and underlying video codec that you will need to use to submit your video.  iMovie is most efficient when editing videos that are Quicktime files with the Apple Intermediate codec.  If you can export the movie out of iMovie as an Apple Intermediate Codec Quicktime file, you will be able to bring it into the Quicktime Player and export it to m4v or mp4.  You may need to experiment with the settings in the Quicktime Player to get the quality you want.

    Hello,
    Adobe stopped supporting flash for android since ICS. You may still be able to download the latest (old) flash player "at your own risk" from Adobe archived flash player versions:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
    Please read the disclaimer at the end as it is not advised to install unsupported flash versions.
    As for video streaming, there are lot of apps for that and it's just a matter of your preference.
    Hope that helps

  • What file format can be used to play 3D videos on Panasonic TVPlasma3D with USB PenDrive?

    What file format can be used to play 3D videos on Panasonic TVPlasma3D with USB PenDrive?
    I writed to Panasonic Italy support about this question:
    "What file format can be used to play 3D videos on Panasonic TVPlasma3D with USB PenDrive?"
    Panasonic writed me in a very poor manner and said me:
    "...riproduce formati: AVCHD (anche 3D), SD-Video, DivXHD, JPEG, MP3, AAC tramite USB e Slot SD/SDHC/SDXC card..."
    "...formato : AVCHD estensione file nella SD: .MTS..."
    I made a few videos edited with PremiereProCS5 and exported as H.264 Coding and .mp4 file extension, all side by side, with layout 1920x1080pixels that includes two stretched frames at 960x1080 pixels.
    This is the same image layout that uses the Panasonic 3D consumer camcorder "HDC-SDT750", that record AVCHD videos with file extension .MTS.
    I also tried to export another video as MPEG2 with .mpg file extension.
    But at the store the tests failed, and I cannot see anything!
    My questions are:
    1) What format can be used by PremiereProCS5 for exporting the Stereoscopic 3D videoclip and play them via USB port on Panasonic TVPlasma3D such "TX-P46VT20"?
    2) What codec should be used? H.264? H.264-bluray?
    3) What file extension should have the movie file? .mp4?
    Many Thanks!
    Horsepower0171.

    -I already read entirely those threads, but nothing about stereoscopic 3D AVCHD movies through USB port, on Panasonic TVPlasma3D.
    (Also, Sony said me that is not possible to play 3D videos on your 3DTV through USB port).
    I tried to made a H.264 videoclip, with .MP4 extension, at 960x1080p side-by-side layout, but nothing was displayed, and black screen.
    I think that just the AVCHD movies, with .MTS extension, that comes from Panasonic consumer camcorder "HDC-SDT750", can play the 3D videos via HDMI cable, not USB port.
    But not the exported videos from PremierePro via USB port.
    I seen this tutorial from David K Helmly:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/dhelmly#p/a/u/1/_YtF0c2bmkw
    Dave export the video from PremiereProCS5 as "MPEG2-bluray" format with "Match Source Attributes (HighQuality)" Preset, and build the Bluray Disc in EncoreCS5, with the footage as MPEG2 with .m2v file extension:
    1) Anyone tried to play correctly in 3D, those MPEG2-.m2v side-by-side files, in Panasonic3DTV, with BlurayDiscReader?
    2) Why MPEG2.m2v side-by-side?
    3) The official standard stereoscopic 3D format, is not the .MVC (MultiViewCoding) for Bluray3D Disc?
    I am confused!
    Help!

  • What video formats are compatible with iMove '11

  • What video formats does Final Cut Express support?

    I have Final Cut Express HD 3.5. What video formats are compatible with this program? Also, what frame rate and aspect ratio do my videos have to be in for Express to accept the video file?

    Good of you to have read the manual. It helps us answer the question now that you've included that information.
    Your material must be converted to either DV, HDV or AIC (FCE Native formats). As you have discovered, while FCE will accept a number of non-standard or native formats, it will not play happily with them.
    DV and HDV are anamorphic formats. That is, they use non-square pixels. Standard DV is 720x480 (a 3:2 ratio) that FCE will do the conversion magic and have is display in a 4:3 format. Widescreen DV (aka 16:9) is ALSO 720x480 but the narrow dimension of the pixel is oriented the other way. When you tell FCE that the file is 16:9 anamorphic, it will do the magic and display the material properly. If you do not, it will display as though it is standard definition 4:3 and the people will be much skinnier but not taller.
    HDV is 1440x720 but displays in 16:9.
    AIC can be 1280x720 or 1980x1080.
    All other dimensions are not supported and you may have very unreliable results when using them. This very limited abiltiy to deal with more than a couple of formats was one of the main differentiation points between Express and Final Cut Pro. There were a great number of other differences but this was one of the biggest limitations for most consumer level users.
    If you want to edit a lot of non-standard,  non-native formats, look into Final Cut Pro X or Adobe Premiere Pro. Premiere Pro is within the editing paradigm of Final Cut Pro/Express. Final Cut Pro X has gone in a different direction which involves a new learning curve. Don't be fooled by the name, it is a very different animal than Express.

  • What video format to export for Ipad Apps

    Hi,
    I am new in export flash to ipad. I tried to export my video as FLV for my ipad apps, it plays but its lagging or jerky.
    I had tried other formats like mp4, f4v, m4v or mov it just doesn't play
    Wonder if anyone knows what video format to export for my ipad apps?

    [email protected], on an iPad, here's what I did to get the FLV loading and taking up (most) of the screen. You can't use the FLV Component skins so you have to use the UI Components as markc888 suggested below your comment. My only gripe with this solution is that I can't get the fullScreen button to make the video go full screen.
    This is starts from a playVideo button on my stage.
    playVideo.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playVideoClick);
    function playVideoClick(event:MouseEvent):void {
    var flvPlayback:FLVPlayback = new FLVPlayback();
    flvPlayback.x = 62;
    flvPlayback.y = 62;
    flvPlayback.width = 900;
    flvPlayback.height = 506;
    flvPlayback.fullScreenTakeOver = true;
    flvPlayback.autoPlay = true;
    flvPlayback.source = "yourMovie.flv";
    flvPlayback.bufferTime = .1;
    addChild(flvPlayback);
    flvPlayback.playPauseButton = playPauseBtn_mc;
    flvPlayback.stopButton = stopBtn_mc;
    flvPlayback.seekBar = seekBar_mc;
    var closeMovie:yourMovieClip = new yourMovieClip();
    addChild(closeMovie);
    closeMovie.x = 977;
    closeMovie.y = 77;
    closeMovie.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, closeMovieClick);
    function closeMovie(event:MouseEvent):void {
    flvPlayback.stop();
    removeChild(flvPlayback);
    removeChild(closePres);
    Hope it helps...

  • What video format do I send a client in France?

    What video format do I send a client in France?

    Sorry I thought you were wasting mine.
    Let's start again. If you're sending the client a digital file for use on a computer, it doesn't matter what you send him/her as long as the format can be played back and the client has the codec. It doesn't matter a jot whether they're in France or Brazil or Japan. If you're sending them a videotape, it needs to be at 25fps. If it's standard defintion it needs to be PAL. If it's a DVD it doesn't matter as any DVD player sold in Europe made in the last 10 years will playback either NTSC or PAL. If it's HD maybe they want Blu-ray, in which case it doesn't matter either as Blu-ray players will play any Blu-ray supported frame rate and there is no difference in the codec between the US or Europe.
    I can go on, but it would be easier if you said what you had and what they wanted.

  • What video formats are compatible in DVDSP??

    I have DVD Studio Pro 4 and I need to know what video formats are compatible in the program? I made an .m2v file but its too large to fit even on a DL DVD so I need to drop the .m2v file into Mpegstreamclip and convert it to something else and decrease the size so then I can drop it back into DVDSP and burn it. Any help with this? What are formats supported in DVDSP? Or, is there another way around my problem (too big of a file)?? Thanks!

    Can you make the audio AC3? That may put you under.
    Also keep in mind that if the 2 hour 2 minute movie is that large in file size, it means it probably was encoded at a high rate which can cause issues (you can try to re-encode the m2v in a couple of ways if needed)
    As to the story issues it sounds like you made a story accidently. Take a look here
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/layofland.php
    In the blue section towards the upper left, you will see the story listed in the track icon - delete the story and you should be good to go

  • Can iMovie edit 50p footage?

    Okay, so i don't yet have my Mac but am getting it soon, if everything goes right. So here's my question(s).
    Can imovie edit footage in 720p 50 fps I have a Canon 600D and are in a PAL region so 60fps won't do, or do i have to convert it?
    Also, i know that Final Cut Pro X cannot work with the H.264 codec, so can imove or again do i have to convert?
    One last question, with this brand-spanking-new 50p footage, i was planing to slow it down within iMove, but i have read somewhere that all imovie does is skip frames not double or triple the time that it is played over like most slow motions, or do i need to buy FCP X for this?
    Thanks
    The_Ele4ant

    Great video btw, I still have a few questions though.
    First of all how did you import and edit the 50p footage as a poster mentioned above that iMovie does not natively support 50p footage import an editing.
    Finally how did you achieve such fluid slow motion, did you find a way to do 'real' slomotion as in extending the played time of footage (therefore slowing sown without skipping frames) or the meathod of just skipping frames. All using iMovie or ther free software available on a mac.
    Thanks
