what would be better a new iPhone 3gs or a used iPhone 4? The iphone would be 2yrs old and belonged to my sister. I am weighing my iphone options, help!
I'm sorry I should have been more specific with the situation. I currently own an iPhone 3gs which is still under warranty, I am going to get a new one because I am having some issues with the phone. However, my sister offered me her old Iphone 4 if i want it. Now I am not sure whether I should take her 2 year old iphone 4 or just keep the 3gs I get from the apple store...???

Well, you sink everything on your 3GS onto your laptop/computer. Then you reset your iPhone 4. When you are restarting it, add all those apps music (ect) On to it. It seems difucult but for more info call Apple. I did that and he lead me step by step on how to do it. Well hope this helped~~

Hey everyone! I've got a 16GB iPhone 3G on Rogers that I got on a 3 year contract last October, and I'm planning on taking advantage of their promotional pricing and upgrading to a 32GB iPhone 3GS for $550. I'm just wondering, after I upgrade and do a restore on my old iPhone to wipe it, can I use the SIM card from the new iPhone to activate the old one, and them remove it and give the old one to my sister to use as an iPod Touch, or will the SIM card that's in the old one still activate it? Or, do they just put the SIM from the old one in the new one when I buy it (Which is what they'd do for any other GSM phone, but this is an iPhone so it MAY be different)? She's willing to pay me $200 for it which will help cover the cost of the new one. I don't mind swapping SIMs to re-activate it after software updates because eventually she's going to get a plan for it which will make it unnecessary... Also, I know jail-breaking it will fix that but I don't want to jail-break it.
Ok, I upgraded my phone yesterday in an Apple Retail Store and this is what happened:
1. They took the SIM card from my old 3G and put it the new one
2. They activated the new iPhone using the old SIM (It picked up my service immediately)
3. They gave me both iPhones (The old one still functioning as an iPod) and the new SIM from the new phone separate
After that I took them both home and after restoring my new phone from a backup (And inadvertently losing some cool videos I'd taken), I used the "Erase All Content and Settings" feature on the old one. Two hours later, it woke up inactivated and requesting a "Valid SIM Card". I simply popped the unused SIM from the new phone in, and plugged it in to my sister's iBook. After registering and accepting the license agreement and all that other stuff, it automatically activated and started to sync. It functions perfectly fine as an iPod Touch with or without the SIM card, but there's no chance of making an emergency call since it's always on No Service (The SIM has never been used). I'm just leaving the SIM card in there so she won't have to hunt for it every time she upgrades it. -

I am considering purchase of the new iPad and already own iPhone 3GS, can I use my phone to tether to the iPad and use the phones 3G connection?
This will allow me to buy the cheaper version of the iPad without 3G.You can tethe, but depending on carrier you may need to pay for that option... I've decided to have my phone on one provider and my ipad on another so i always have connectivity... More expensive in the long run, but I need to make sure I am always "on" for work

For what purpose are you trying to connect the two?
The only thing you can connect a Mac to an iOS device for is Internet Tethering (Personal Hotspot) - nothing else. -

You might want to ask you carrier that question. I can tell you that when I gave my old iPhone 4 to my wife we were able to get my old sim card that was in the 4 reprogrammed with the wife's phone number. The AT&T store didn't charge us to do this.

I have a iphone I do not use as a phone anymore. I use the apps and the music on it though. I downloaded itunes and I am trying to update the phone so I can purchase music and apps for it. When I plug it to the computer it starts syncing and runs a good 20 minutes and then I get an error saying it cannot update and it takes me to a update repair page that does nothing to help. Can someone help me on what to do? I have my own itunes account, I have wi-fi, I have all the songs on my phone I purchased but I cant get it to sync with itunes at all. I can do nothing. Is this usual? Can I do something so I can still use the phone as a Ipod putting new stuff on it or am I stuck with all the old stuff and I can never add anything on it? HELP
