When I attempt to import some regular, commercial CD's, iTunes returns the message "The song names for this CD could not be found online.  Do you still want to import the songs?"   This has happened for four CD's in a row now, Eagles - Hotel California.

Hi All,
When I attempt to import some regular, commercial CD's, iTunes returns the message "The song names for this CD could not be found online.  Do you still want to import the songs?"   This has happened for four CD's in a row now.  Today, after importing some other CD's in the regular way, all of a sudden, iTunes won't recognize the Eagles - "Hotel California" CD, the Eagles "**** Freezes Over" CD,  "The Best of Roy Orbison" or "Milestones" by Miles Davis.
What happened?  Anybody know?

We've gotten the same error at the same time. I guess we need to let this play out. In the meantime, I'm gonna update iTunes.

  • HT1473 iTunes message saying the song names for this cd could not be found online when it's iTunes store, What's up with that?

I just purchased The Very Best Of Eagles CD, Popped it into my drive so excited to own the copy but when I tired to copy it to my Library I get this message saying the song names for this cd could not be found online when it's in the iTunes store, What's up with that?    Is there any way to get track information and artwork without Having to manually inter all the info?

iTunes gets track information from Gracenote's database, so iTunes must be able to reach gracenote.com and the CD must have been entered there by some purchaser already (all CD information in Gracenote is provided by we users). If these are common, commercially-distributed CDs, it may be that there is a firewall or privacy filter blocking access to gracenote.com. If these are unusual, independently-released or rare CDs, they just may not be in Gracenote yet. In the case of a custom CD where it's a compilation, Gracenote probably won't be able to identify them (it goes by complete albums, comparing the number and length of the tracks to try and figure out what album it is).
    Hope this helps.

I've tried with a dozen CDs and is always the same.

  • "The names for this CD could not be found online. Do you want to continue?"

I have my modest music library on my MBP. I want an additional small library on my iMac for use in video editing. Having hooked up the same CDs as were successfully imported via my MBP I keep getting the "The names etc etc message".
I burned some tracks on my MBP to a playlist. Burned a CD. When I import into iMusic on my iMac, same message again.

  • "The song ______ could not be used because the original could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"  Getting this message, only download 10.6.3.... where could they be? how do I find them on my PC?

Trying to find songs? No other changes to computer, just the download of itunes 10.6.3.??
How do I find the originals or get them back??

The default location for iTunes downloads on Windows Vista is under : \Users\username\My Music\ (where username is the name that you've chosen to use on your computer). If you do 'get info' (control-I) on one of the tracks (and tap 'no' on the 'would you like to locate' popup) then you might be able to see where iTunes is expecting to find that track (it should show at the bottom of the Summary tab).
If you can't find your iTunes downloads underneath that folder (and you can't find it via a search in windows explorer) then depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then you could try redownloading them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes. If you still have the entries for them on your iTunes library, then even though the files behind them may no longer exist on your computer, iTunes will assume that you still have them and won't let you re-download them, so you need to delete the iTunes entries first before trying re-downloading.

  • "license file for this version could not be found" message when trying to install latest version of Firefox

I keep trying to install Firefox 3.6.10, and it seems to work, but then when it comes time to accept the user agreement, that option is grayed out and I can only go back. In the Software License Agreement box is the following message: "The license file for this version could not be found. Please visit Firefox homepage for more information."

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.<br />
Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

  • On some of my files there is a ! in front of it, if I try to play the song, I get an error message; "The song "_____" could not be used, because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Then when I click "Locate", I get nothing.

I'm really dumbfounded on this one and it's driving me bonkers!!!! On some of my music files there is a ! in front of it, if I try to play the song, I get an error message; "The song "_____" could not be used, because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
This began to happen when Chuck made playlists2burn on2CD-and then he would delete the playlist; sending all the song files into oblivion. Certain songs have a ! right next to the file name, and as I stated before, i get that error message:
"The song "_____" could not be used, because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
So I click on "Locate". No help. I get a menu with folders that say "catroot" and other folders which names I cannot remember, but I scroll PAST the file folders, & it's just a bunch of ".DLL" files.....I don't understand what any of the names of the folders mean...it's frustr8ing-coz this is my 2nd iTouch, my 1st one got stolen & I can't afford2buy my music back at this time & i NEVER before had a single problem with losing song file locations.
Is there anyone out there who has been through this frustrating game of chasing your tail?....<that's how I feel>
If so I would be ever so gr8ful if maybe someone with the knowledge would be so kind as 2 tell me how/where 2 retrieve these songs & how to put everything back where it belongs, I would be 4ever gr8ful !!!
I can't afford 2 replace the songs just like I'm unable 2 buy back my old music from my stolen iTouch....man that was an awesome collection-someday I'll be able 2 afford 2 do that & I would like 2 have all the new music that I paid 4 but cannot find when I got my new iTouch....that would just be  wonderful.
I hope someone sees this post that can help me retrieve these files....losing $100.00 of iTunes is a REAL BUMMER!!!!!!

Since you never changed the settings in the advanced section of iTunes preferecnes, you have to chech that your music is really in the location setted in the folders reported in the advanced section.  If not you have 2 ways: reset the position of this folders or in the actual disk organisation or in the pointing on the preferences.
If you press the reset button you just give to itunes its default setting as for the position of the music files: probably this will be a good choice if you have never changed any default preference.
But before I would check the folders and see if the songs are really there
In my iTune I have this, and I believe it is the default.

  • I am an absolute newcomer to Lightroom.  I have downloaded images from camera (OMD EM1) and divided them into folders.  Some folders work ok in Develop mode.  With other folders I get the words "This file could not be found".  What should I do

As an absolute newcomer to Lightroom 5 I have downloaded images direct from camera (IOlympus EM-1) and divided them into folders. When I go into Develop mode, some folders can be developed ok , but with images from two other folders I get the message "This file could not be found".  What should I do?

may i suggest opening the files in Olymous Viewer 3  and exporting them (you can do some editing there if you wish or not) asTIFF files. After that you can import the new files into LR. LR seems to like tiiff more than .orf files
The advantage to using OV3 is that it seems to do a much better job converting RAW EM1 files. Colors are more accurate ( my red flower pot turned orange when loaded directly into lightroom)
. The tiff files just LOOK better in LR  after the conversion . there is a youtube on this subject and when i tried it myself i was impressed

    Hey xxCreepyFiaxx,
First, I would try the following suggested steps for when you don't see content in iTunes after updating:
    Quit iTunes.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
Use the Finder (Mac) or Windows Explorer (Windows) to go to the iTunes folder that contains the iTunes library files:
    Mac OS X
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
Microsoft Windows Windows XP and Windows 2000
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
Microsoft Windows Windows Vista and Windows 7
    \Users\username\Music\iTunes\
Drag the iTunes Library file from the above location to the Desktop.
Open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in the iTunes folder.
Locate the file named iTunes Library YYYY-MM-DD where YYYY-MM-DD is the date you upgraded iTunes (Year-Month-Day).
Drag this file to the iTunes folder (the enclosing folder).
Rename this file to iTunes Library.
    Open iTunes.
You should now see your missing content in iTunes.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, then I'd go through the steps in here:

    Have a good one,

this usually happens when a user moves or deletes files in the finder - a sure way to upset iTunes.
did you move or delete files in the finder ?
    I cannot locate the song.
if you let iTunes manage your library, all your content will be in <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music/iTunes/iTunes music (or media)/music. did you look there ? tried a spotlight search ?
if the files are really gone, and have been purchased from the iTunes store, see Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

This usually means the original music file has been been deleted from the HDD. If you feel it has not then click "locate" and navigate to where the song file is on the HDD and choose it. You can use Spotlight to locate it if necessary.

I have an iPod Classic and work on Windows 7.

"The song could not be used because the original file could not be found.  Would you like to locate it?"
what happened to all my songs (almost 2000) How can i get them back into my music library?
Please help - i do not want to spend another week downloading all my cd's onto my computer !!!!!

Try my script FindTracks. Select a few of the missing files to start with then run the script. Choose No at the first prompt so that you can check how it works track by track, then confirm or edit the location of the media folder where your files are. Once you are happy with how it behaves let it process larger numbers of tracks automatically.
