  • Disk Utility - secure erase process does not complete

    Help, please!
It is taking "for ever" for Disk Utility* to securely** erase (a) the 37.25 GB hard drive in my G4 Powerbook (while booted from a startup disk), and (b) an external 55.9 GB firewire hard drive (connected to a 17" G4 iMac).
After more than a day, the progress bar for the Powerbook is only about half way over, and the progress bar for the external hard drive is only about 1/7 of the way over. (See the notes marked * and ** below.)
Additionally, the note next to the progress bar for the Powerbook has changed from "Writing random data to disk" to "Creating partition map".
Yesterday when I tried this process previously, after a very similar situation developed I quit Disk Utility on both machines and started the process again - so now the situation is about the same as before I quit Disk Utility yesterday.
    * I am using Disk Utility v10.4.4 to erase the external drive. I am using Disk Utility off the boot disk for OS X v 10.3.3 for an iBook to erase the Powerbook - but I can't see what version at the moment because the pointer is currently a spinning "beach ball".
**By "securely erase", I mean I selected the option to write random data eight times to each location.
(Prior to starting the secure erasure process, I had Disk Utility write zeroes at all locations - and that process did completed within a few minutes for each hard drives.)

  • Firefox/3.6.10 shows message whenever I click on an icon needing Internet access, saying 'Firefox couldn't install this item because "install rdf" (provided by the item) is not well-formed or does not exist' and advising me to contact the author - ???

Whenever access to the Internet is needed, clicking on any icon or link (including the Firefox icon) results in a delay of around 20 secs., followed by the appearance of the error message, headed "Malformed File". The message reads 'Firefox couldn't install this item because "install rdf" (provided by the item) is not well-formed or does not exist. Please contact the author about this problem.'
Clicking OK or closing the box leads to a further delay of about 20 secs. after which the required action takes place! Of course, it could be said that it's really only a delay, so I should just get used to it, but it's still a malfunction, it's a pain in the neck or another region, and I really would like to cure it. Any suggestions - please????

  • When I close my browser and reopen, it, all of the tabs that were previously open reopen, does not refresh and open with my home page opening.

when I close my browser and then reopen it, it does not go to the selected home page, but reopens with all of the previous tabs. reviewed the available knowledge based answers, but none seemed to fix problem. I'm not certain that I did everything correctly, but I believe I followed the directions properly. problem persists.

Assuming Firefox is set to start up with your home page, there are two common reasons for this:
    * You have a user.js file instructing Firefox to ignore your previously saved settings and restore the earlier session. See this article on tracking down and removing that file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    * Firefox is crashing, and doing an automatic crash recovery. As a diagnostic, you can change what Firefox does during a crash recovery, from automatically restoring to showing a list of windows and tabs from your previous session so you can pick and choose what to restore.
    ''To try the change:''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''sess''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes''' preference and change the value from 1 to 0 and OK that.
    Hope that helps.

  • Idownloaded the latest itunes for windows and it just does not sync and every time I connect the iPhone 5 the agreement comes up first.  Help please.

I have had nothing but trouble with syncing my iPhone 5 with iTunes.  I have installed the latest version of each and worked with support but no solution.  Currently when I connect the iPhone the Terms and conditions appear every time, I agree and sometimes there is a sync and sometimes not.  It also tells me I have 5 conflicts but looking at Outlook and the phone there is no conflict. If you tell the system to correct the conflicts it gives a message it cannot access the conflict server.  I am running Windows 7.
    Any help would be appreciated

Make sure you have your data backed up, then reset sync services per the instructions below.
    OS X: Resetting Sync Services
This should take care of the iTunes issue.

  • I am trying to restore my iphone 4 and when it gets to the, waiting for iphone, stage he phone does not respond and it comes up with error 4005. does anyone know how to resolve this issue. thanks

I am trying to resore my iphone 4 and the phone keeps causing an error 4005. i have updated itunes and am at a loss as how to restore phone. please help

    Hello there, Shaz18663.
The following Knowledge Base article provides a solution for the error you have mentioned:
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Particularly:
    Check USB connections
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
    Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • When I click on the Firefox icon to open it, it does not open and comes up with the crash reporter. This happens every time I open or restart friefox. what should I do?

Firefox keeps crashing. I can't get it to open to do any of the troubleshooting steps. I have run Malware and there are no viruses. I have re-installed the latest version and still occurs.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • HT1267 IPhone4..Model MC603C/Ser#850441XGXA4S: I have update to 5.1.1. I am not alerted to my emails unless I tap on the mail app. Then the alert/banner appears. When I start up, the alert sounds but after that it does not work. Whats wrong?

Ever since I updating my IPhone 4 to 5.1.1. my alert/banner does not work with my mail app. Initial startup it works but after that, it does
not work. The only way I know there is a message by tapping on the mail app and then I hear the alert and the banner shows up. Prior
to updating, it always worked. Is there a 'bug' in the system or is there something I am missing here.

Yeah this was my first time connecting my phone to the computer since I went to iOS 5.0 and iCloud, so I wasn't familiar with the fact that it did not automatically create a backup on iTunes during the Sync process.  Should have right-clicked on the phone device and did a manual backup.
But still, after restoring the backup from iCloud, I don't understand why data from certain apps got hosed (anything before October 2011, which was my last iTunes backup), while other apps' data appears to be fully intact.

  • When attempting to log on to my mobile me account the "loading mail" process does not finish and I am unable to use any features of mobile me. There are no problems accessing mobile me with Safari.

As soon as I enter my user name and password for mobile me the process of "loading mail" begins. It never finishes

Is the credit card registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, it was issued by a bank in your country and you are currently in that country ? If it is then you could check with the card issuer to see if it's them that are declining it, and if not then try contacting iTunes support and see if they know why it's being declined : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management
Each time that you add or change your card details then a temporary store holding charge may be applied to check that the card details are correct and valid (though that is usually $1 or the approximate local equivalent) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3702
Did your daughter owe any amounts to iTunes ? Does anything show on your purchase history : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2727 ? If they are proper charges which you don't think that you should have then you can contact iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • HT1349 I have an iPhone 4(not s) and it freezes up on me constantly!  I've tried everything. Even restored to factory as new iPhone. Please help!

This is my second iP4. The tech at apple said there was corrupt files and to restore it as a new ph. Nothing has worked. I thought wifi might be causing the issue. By turning off wifi it has helped some but the problem still exisit.

Dude you have a jailbroken phone as stated in your first post, no need to do a second post.
As per the forum term of service you can't get help here.  Use google.
that's the downfall of jailbreaking your phone.

  • Process does not end when binding a object to registry

I am writing a Unit Test case in which i need to create a datasource and bind it to RMI registry so that the methods i need to test can get a database connection . The problem is that after the test cases have finished running the process does not end and i have to shut it down manually . When i do not bind the datasource , the process ends put with errors because the methods do not get a connection. Even unbinding it after running the test cases does not help.
