When I double click on a photo in Photoshop 10, Organizer, it is replaced by another photo.

I am using a free downloaded trial version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 on my new computer with Windows 7.  Not every time, but often enough, when I double click on a photo in the catalog, it will replace that photo with another photo.  Then I have to search all over to find the original photo.  Additionally, I was in an album and right clicked on a photo, then asked that it be rotated 90 degrees right, and instead the photo was replaced by another photo.  I've been through my entire catalog twice and cannot find the original photo.  Now, as I page down through the photos, it seems to be mixing in different photos about every other photo.
Am I doing something wrong?
Is this a Windows 7 issue?
I realize I'm just using a trial version and that this problem may not exist in the real thing (if indeed it's a problem and not a user issue), but if I can't get the trial to work any better than this, I will not be purchasing the actual version.
Any help?

I don't know what happened but as soon as I posted this request for help it immediately is working fine.  Thanks whatever.

  • Re iphoto: when I double click on a thumbnail i get e grey screen with exclamation mark..can't access my photos to edit, order prints etc

Was wondering if anyone can help...I am not very computer friendly but want to be able to edit my photos, use them as jpegs, order prints etc. When I double click on a thumbnail ( am presuming the thumbnails are the small photos ) I get a grey screen with an exclamation mark on it. I cannot drag the thumbnail onto the desk top it just pings back. This doesn't happen with all the thumbnails and has been a problem since we upgraded to snowleopard. I recently reinstalled photos from the memory card from my camera and they are alright. I am presuming that the old photos are stuck in there somewhere if only I knew the right buttons to press to get them out. Thanks, Jane Thomas

Easiest: Restore from your back up.
    Otherwise:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • I have photos on a cd which I'm trying to open .  If I click on them I can see the picture in the preview, but when I double click it doesn't recognise the picture.  They are all in .jpg format.  Tried copying them but it said some data cannot be read.

I have photos on a cd which I'm trying to open .  If I click on them I can see the picture in the preview, but when I double click it doesn't recognise the picture.  They are all in .jpg format.  Tried copying them but it said some data cannot be read.  The files exist but I just can't seem to view them

Select one and hit the Space bar to view it in QuickLook. Use the forward arrow keys to move from file to file.   If the file can't be viewed in the QuickLook mode then the file is damaged and probably can't be copied or moved.
You could try a photo file recovery application like  MediaRECOVER which can scan the memory card and tell you what files, if any, can be recovered before you have to purchase it.

  • Photos don't show individually. they only come up when I double click the blank box. how can I restore iPhoto?

when I open iPhoto, the screen shows only blanc squares where the photos should appear. when I double-click on a square (titled by date taken), all pictures come up. how can I get back to seeing all individual pictures?

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuold the thumbnails. This can take 3 or 4 goes to work

  • Blank thumbnails in organizer but photo is there when I double click on it

When I look at my entire library, I have events that show up blank with a dotted line around it. When I click on the event the photos are blank with the same dotted line. But when I double click on each one, it brings up the actual photo. At least I know the photo is there, but is there some way to see the thumbnails when I am viewing all the events?

have you backed up and rebuilt the thumbnails (depress the option and command keys and launch iPhoto use the rebuild thumbnails option)

  • I cropped a photo in iphoto. It is only cropped when you double click.

I cropped a photo in iphoto.  In events it is showing the original photo. When I double click on the photo then it shows me the cropped version. I would like to see only the cropped version and delete permanantly the original version or at least not have to look at it. Help please.

How did you crop this photo? The symptom are consistant with your using a third party program and modifying the photo within the iPhoto library - which you must never do.
in iPhoto there is no way to "delete the original" version - iPhoto is a DAM (Digital Asset Manager) and as such always maintains the original, the digital negative

  • Pictures are overlapping in photo library. When I double click the picture the bottom (correct picture) shows.

Pictures in Photo are over-lapping. Yet when I double click the picture, the correct picture appears. How do I fix this?

Sounds like corrupted thumbnails.  First try this: Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - run Option #4.
3 - if that doesn't fix the problem rerun with Option #2. It might take more than one attempt.

  • When I double click on an event, shows large photo rather than All photos

I don't know what I did to cause this, but somehow, when I double click on an event, it magnifies the particular photo my mouse is on, rather than opening up all of the photos in the event. How can I change this so when I click on an event, all the photos in the event appear?
    thanks very much.

    Quite iPhoto
in the finder under your user account ==> library ==> preferences and delete com.apple.iphoto.plist
launch iPhoto - your preferences will be reset to the iPhoto defaults

  • When I double click on thumbnail large photo is all black

Both my wife and I use the same Macbook Pro and I have configured iPhoto to allow her read and write in my iPhoto Library.  Up until a week or so ago there was no problem.  However, in the past few days when she double clicks on a thumbnail to enlarge it, the enlargement is all black.  Since I was using an older version of iPhoto, yesterday I updated to the latest version.  That didn't help she still has the same problem.  When I use iPhoto it works as expected.  I would appreciate some help on this if anyone has experienced this issue.

You can try to rebuild your iPhoto library by holding command and option when you open iPhoto.
I would highly recommend not allowing mulitple computers to access the same library. iPhoto is NOT designed for this feature, and any tampering with the library files can create all sorts of issues (like the one you are having) and can even result in the loss of you photos.

  • When using iphoto I can view the photos but when I double click on a photo it becomes a black box with a white circle on the screen

When using iphoto, I can view the photos but when I double click on 1 specific photo it enlarges to a black box with a large white circle in it...doesn't matter which photo I click on the end result is the same...black box with a white circle.

  • Iphoto is quitting unexpectedly when I double click a photo

iphoto is quitting unexpectedly when I double click a photo within iPhoto to enlarge it or scroll all the way to the top to the most recent pictures.  Any ideas? I have the most recent version and all updates are done.  HELP!

Now we try repair the original Library. Switch back to it:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
Then assuming you're using iPhoto 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Some of my photos show small when I double click them

    I have a macbook air OS X 10.9.5 (13F34), iPhoto 9.5.1
I have just noticed an issue in my photos from 2008 to 2009.  When I double click on the photos in this period small size photos come up, not full screen
at the start of the problem I note that one event seems to let me have full size, and another event straight below suddenly only allows me to click to a small photo
I don't know when this problem happened, obviously I certainly do not recall doing anything to cause this.  Is there something I can do to get those photos back to full size.

I'm not sure if I know exactly where to find this, but this is what I see on the two examples of the same photo
