When I downloaded pics from my camera to iPhoto it put them in a file that was named with the download date. Can I do that with Aperture (as the download default)?

I recently replaced iPhoto with Aperture. When I download pics into Aperture they are place in a file that's called "Untitled Project." When I downloaded pics from my camera to iPhoto they were put in a file that was named with the download date (YYYY MM DD). Can I do that with Aperture (as the download default)?

My apologies.
When I import I have an Applescript that stores the images in a year month day folder-project structure so I haven;t used the default Aperture behavior in some time. When I tested it out to reply to you I was doing it from the file system and it picked up the date from the folder.  mea culpa.
Anyway the closest you can get is to have Aperture split the images by date. IN the Aperture preferences set the project split granularity
Autosplit into Projects
and then in the import window set
Automatically split projects.
This will give projects named Month Day, Year (ie: Mar 13, 2012) there is no way to change this
As I said I have a script that runs on import and sets up a structure like:
Of course many here will say not to name projects this way, that Aperture has the ability to sort by date and you're better off naming projects something more meaningful. For them that is true and it might be for you also. For me I like to store my masters this way, it works for the way I shoot.

For what you said you should be easily be able to do what you want except for:

I am trying to download pic from my camera to my iphoto.  The computer is telling me that I cannot do this because it down not work with this version of OSx
    What do I do?
    Thanks!

It is not possible to install OS X 10.7.2 on a Mac with a G5 processor.
In order for 10.7.2 to be installed you must have an Intel processor and not a PowerPC which G5 is. Please straighten out your information.
Also the version of iPhoto you are attempt to run would be helpful.

  • I cannot download pics from my camera.  Your problem or mine?  Please advise

Today, I have been unable to download pics from my camera.  Site says it has a problem...and pardon the inconvenience.  Is this to be fixed with Adobe??  Thanks  Nan

I can't think any way in which Adobe Reader is involved in downloading pics from your camera. If you think Adobe is involved, check the name of the Adobe software you are using, they make lots of stuff.

You may have to research any newer possibilities in trouble-
shooting or resolving issues by use of iPhoto Support page.
Since I don't use iPhoto as a primary editor or storage, the

  • Get error message when I try to download pictures from my camera to Iphoto.

Whenever I try to download photos from my digital camera to my Iphoto application in my Mac Book Pro laptop, I'm getting an error message that "startup disk is running low on space" and to delete some files before I try to download again. I also tried to install a recent software update to my computer and could not because it said that I did not have anough GB to do so. So... I'm thinking I need to delete some things. Which items take up the most hard drive space and which would be the best files to delete? I have all my info backed up on an external hard drive, so I could delete a lot of pictures. Thanks!

The order of consumption is usually, video, pics, music, docs.
If you have a great deal of photos on you internal drive and have them on an external storage drive, then you can delete them from your internal, that would free up space, same for videos, they are both space hogs. I regularly put my photos to an external drive, just keep my internal with as much free space on it. It runs faster and less stressful on the drive.
If you are having these error messages then you most certainly need to get stuff off, overloading can kill a drive.
As a general rule try to keep the internal below 50% for better performance.

  • I am having problems downloading photos from my camera to iphoto 11

I am unable to download photos from my sony cybershot DSC-W170 and my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 to iphoto11. The problem started when the colour wheel started spinning when iphoto opened after I switched on either camera and the programme became unresponsive. Subsequently when ever I then tried to open iphoto the colour wheel span and iphoto didn't respond, force quit the only way out.
After this happened the first time I rebuilt my library from timemachine (not the quickest process with around 9000 images), iphoto then opened okay and I could view libraries again.
I then downloaded the images directly from the camera sd card to my desktop and tried to drag the images into iphoto one at a time this worked but as soon as i tried to import the whole roll, the colour wheel popped up and iphoto became unresponseive again but I could view my libraries at least.
I then read about deleting the library cache which I did and restarted my mac (imac core duo 2ghz, running 10.6.8) I then tried to download from the sony cybershot again and I here am back at the start, with the colour wheel and iphoto not responding, I have just force quit and I can't open iphoto. Help!

  • Import still pics from video camera into iphoto with firewire?

I have a new panasonic pv-gs250. Although it is PC based, I was able to bypass their software and use imovie by attaching a 4 to 6 firewire to the dv port. It imported the movieclips with no problem. When I changed the mode on the camera from replay movie mode, to view pics mode (it can take stills on an sd card), it said that there was no cable connected. I tried using iphoto and importing from there, but it says there's not cable connected. There has to be a simple solution to this! Please help. thanks.
    powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

So, just to be sure, I used the USB cord and opened iphoto. Briefly, under sources, it said it was reading the Panasonic. I got up and when I came back, the Panasonic source was gone, and it said I couldn't close the window because it was importing files. Nothing new has shown up in the library yet. I also don't see anything counting down the loading, or importing. Do you think it's working, but just slow? Or is it having a hard time adjusting to the non-mac compatible thing, and it can't be done? thanks.

  • Can't Download Photos from my Camera into iPhoto

Hi, I've been trying to download my photos from my Casio Exilim camera into iPhoto. Whenever I do, iPhoto shows me that the photos are downloading, but at the end it shows me an error message saying, "Error Downloading Image: iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading the image". I've also tried to access my camera from the desktop, and copy it to another folder, but I had no success with that either.
    Thanks.

Have you tried Image capture (in your applications folder)? Have you tried a USB card reader?
It sounds like your card format probably is bad - how long has it been since you formatted it?
Once you get your photos off you should use your camera and format it - and in the future do not have iPhoto erase your photos but use your camera to format the card

  • When I import pictures from my camera into iPhoto, does it import the original photo size?

I've been importing pictures from my camera & my phone into iphoto, but I'm not sure if it's automatically importing it as the original file size and not changing it into a smaller photo... Is there a way I can check this?
Thanks in advance for your help

Yes it imports a byte by byte copy of the photo.
What do you mean by 'size'? Do you mean file size? Or the dimensions of the photo (length by breadth)?
You can compare simply by exporting the original out of iPhoto
File -> Export, and set the kind to Original

  • Error downloading videos from my camera onto iPhoto?

I plug my SD memory card from my camera into my Macbok Pro. At first, I try to import all my videos all together (there is only about 2-5 short ones each time) but that fails, so I try to import each video seperatly. Only some work. I have tried this many of times, I refilmed some of the videos and tried again, and I tried importing them from image capture. Nothing works! I even bought a new SD card to see if that would work and the same thing happened. I tried logging onto a different user on my laptop to import, and that didnt work. Help what do I do. I'm using this with iPhoto 11. I recently have been getting notices saying my "Start up disk is nearly full" Could this have anything to do with it? If so, how do i fix it because I have deleted more than half my photos (I went from around 1,400 to about 500) and deleted all my documents (They weren't important don't worry)

I recently have been getting notices saying my "Start up disk is nearly full" Could this have anything to do with it?
Indeed yes. If your start up disk is full (or the Mac reports it is full) you will not be able to import your movies.
If your photos are in iPhoto Library, you need to be sure they are really deleted.
Remember to empty the trash after deleting.
Could you please include info about the version of Mac OS you are running on the MBP. (Go to Apple menu / About This Mac.)

  • I am trying to download pictures from my camera to Iphoto and all of a suddent it shuts down after showing a few of the pictures from the camera.  This never happened before

    Any ideas

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

I've downloaded hundreds of pics to my ipad using the lightning connector but it has stopped recognizing that I've connected a camera???
Any settings? I may have to reset etc?

Try this, it worked for me when nothing else did:
Perform a SoundLink® speaker reset, following these steps:
On the speaker, press and hold Mute for 10 seconds, the LEDs will flash briefly
Press Power to turn the SoundLink® speaker back on
    Reconnect the device, if necessary.
