When i go to sync my ipod nano 5th generation i get an error saying "A duplicate file name was specified". what do i do then?
I am trying to sync my iPod nano 5th generation to my computer and when i go to add music through iTunes i get the following message:
The iPod "X's iPod" cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified. Any ideas how to fix this?
On my computer (iMac) while in iTunes it is showing that the music is indeed on my iPod, but when i eject the iPod there is nothing there.
I have a 27" iMac with the latest version of iTunes. I tried restoring my iPod and even removing and re-installing iTunes. What eventually worked for me was plugging into my PC and restoring/reformatting it to work with my PC. I don't know why it wouldn't work with my iMac, but now it seems to be working.

My ipod wont sync-message says "a duplicate file name was specified"
I get this message every time I try to sync my ipod classic to my Itunes. "Ipod cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified." Please help!
Try this: Right->click on your iTunes icon and choose Properties. When the window comes up, click the Compatibility tab and under Privilege Level make sure this is a tick mark next to Run this program as an administrator.
Then open iTunes and try resyncing the iPod.

When starting up iTunes, getting error message "A duplicate file name was specified"
Downloaded recent version of itunes, and started recieving the error, tried all the fixes mentioned on here and the internet. Even after reformating the HD, installing a different version of windows (W7), and installingf iTunes, still getting the error. This is not allowing me to authorize the machine or sync the iPhone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
PS - there is no third party software and describe in some troubleshooting notes.

I've done everything that the troubleshoot said to do but it still keeps coming up with it, what should i do?.
In some cases that error message can be triggered by a corrupt iPod Photo Cache folder. Deleting that folder, which is created inside the photos folder that is synced to the device should resolve. If that doesn't fix it then there is perhaps a different cache in the appdata folder that needs clearing.

can some one help me, each time i plug my ipod into the computor it keeps saying ,, a duplicate file name was specified, how can i change this file name ,,it seems to be the name of the ipod ,,?
Hi stelincs,
You should be able to change the name of your iPod classic in the iTunes application. Here's how:
Change the name of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201997
Use your computer
Connect your device and open iTunes.
Click the Device button in the upper right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper-right corner first.) If you don't see your device, choose Hide Sidebar from the View menu.
Next to the picture of your device, double-click the name of your device.
Type the new name for your device and press Return on the keyboard.
Sync the device (press Sync in the bottom right corner of the screen).

"A duplicate file name was specified" While trying to sync?
I've literally been trying to make iTunes work with my new iPhone 5c for the past 3 hours, and I'm fed up. Everytime I start up iTunes, it says "A Duplicate file name was specified". I'm unable to do anything because everytime I try to sync, it gives me that error message. I also can't restore my iPhone because I purchased apps and it says if I restore my iPhone, the apps haven't been added to my library. It also won't let me authorize my account as it just gives me an error. Please help.
Try looking for and/or deleting incomplete downloads from the the iTunes Media folder. Then try downloading again, so its not resuming or overwriting a previous download.
Apple does have this article that talks about a very similar syncing error -> iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins.

When I try to sync my ipod it says it cannot be synced because "a duplicate file name was specified". What does that mean and how can I fix it??
I'd start with the following document with that one:

The iPod “ _ _ _ “ cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified.
The solution i found to this problem is have windows hard drive recovery tool scan and repair the hard drive on you ipod. To do this, you need to configure itunes so it does not open when you plug in you ipod. Next, plug in your ipod, for windows 7 user a pop up should come up asking to scan and fix device. click yes and give it some time. after the tool in complete unplug you ipod, open itunes, plug your ipod in. if you still get the message, click restore, and start this process on more time. If you do not have windows seven or this pop-up does not appear manually go to you hard recover tool and have it scan your ipod. then follow the rest of the process.

When syncing iTunes reports "The iPod “name” cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified. ". The music is updated but all the sleeve imagery is not including deleting the existing images. How do I solve please?
Hello WGT52,
It sounds like this error message is preventing you from syncing your content to the iPod. I would recommend the troubleshooting steps in the following article:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

When synching my ipod 80 gig classic, I get this message " iPod cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified" And yet, any new music in iTunes is added. What causes this message?
Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache from the nominated folder that you have set up to sync photos to the devices.
See iTunes: Understanding the iPod Photo Cache folder for more info.
