Did the email contain your name? Never click on a link in an email like that and do no enter any personal info after clicking in an email.
There have been quite a few people getting these emails. They are a phishing attempt to get your personal info.

The app that does not want to update was it originally downlaoded with a different ID? If so use that ID and hte password you set for it to update the app

I am trying to update my correct email address to my Apple ID. I got a message saying that the email was already verified with another account. Thinking that maybe I accidentally created one in the past, I reset the password. The email that I got had someone else's name on it! How do I fix this??

thanks Glenn, but that link takes me to where I enter my apple id and then i get the password emailed to me. the problem is, i don't know what email address it is being sent to. in lieu of emailing it, i can also answer a security question, which i have tried. before getting to the security question, it asks for the birthdate associated with the apple id, and for whatever reason it isn't recognizing my birthdate. that's why i thought if i could just retrieve the email address, that woudl be the easier route to go.

You can't. Password is required & the only time not required is within 15 minutes of use. Password is no longer required for App updates.

There is 3 of the same app on my dock that won't go away after trying to remove from dock, close app and even delete the app. I can't restart my mac either because it says that the app won't close. Please help!

You should have set up a password. It is important to have one in order to prevent other users from installing applications and to make your Mac safer.
If you have set up your Apple ID, you can try resetting your user password with your Apple ID > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
If it does not work, reset your user password through Recovery > http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4101 Then, set up a different Keychain password > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1631

iOS 5.1.1 is the lastest for the iPad 1.

Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

Do you have restrictions enabled on your iPad? Go to Settings>General>Restrictions and see if you have it turned on. If so - see if you have installing apps turned off. If you do, turn restrictions off on your iPad and that may do it for you.

settings -> iTunes & App Store
click on apple ID listed there
select Sign Out
sign in with the proper account
from then on, when the store ask for your password it should be with the correct ID

What exactly do you see when trying to buy a game, what messages do you get on-screen ?
If it's an account that you've just created then unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating an account : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method
then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store. You should be able to remove the card after entering its details.
