When I import photos taken from my Windows PC using a flash drive, the photos in iPhoto are dated as the date last modified on PC instead of date picture taken.

When I import photos to my iMac, taken from my Windows PC using a flash drive, the photos in iPhoto are dated as the date last modified on PC instead of date picture taken.

Then you need to ask a PC forum how to export the photos there to include the Metadata (specifically the EXIF data)
If there is valid EXIF data iPhoto uses it (the EXIF data is originally added to the photo by the digital camera) and if there is no EXIF data then the only inofrmaiton IPhoto have available is the file metadata and that is what is used
You can correct the dates in iPhoto using the batch change data/time command

Can't always make sense of its effect, but I suspect what your seeing comes under the influence of Photoshop > Preferences > General > Options > Resize Image During Place

  • I'm using iMovie on my iPad 2. when I import a jpeg from my desktop and use it in a video clip it is so large in the frame it is not usable. No matter how I resize it in photoshop it's still the same. When I take a photo with the iPad it's no problem.

I'm using my ipad2 with iMovie. When I import photos from my pc and try to use them they are huge. Even when I resize them in photoshop they are still huge and unusable. How do I resize them?

I'm not sure of your question.
Are you asking how to use Photoshop?
Or are you asking for the dimensions of video iMovie uses?
It edits in 720P HD, which is 1280x720.
You can make it a bit bigger so you can zoom in.
Much bigger then this is a waste of time.

  • Successfully Imported photos to iPhoto are gone!

    Dear Apple,
Today I imported photos to iPhoto. It said "import successful". Followed by: "Do you want to delete your photos?" I choose "Yes." like I usually do. I never before had an issue with this, that is until today! Shortly after choosing "Yes" the spinning rainbow wheel of death started. I was unable to do anything with iPhoto. The mouse was not functional with the iPhoto program. After waiting more than 15+ mins I decieded to give up & in the end I had to "Force Quit" iPhoto. After reopening iPhoto, none of the photos I loaded are visible. I keep everything orginized by date. Despite that iPhoto claimed it uploaded the photos successfully & none of them can be found anywhere on my computer comes the worst of it... iPhoto did in fact delete all of the photos on my SD card! So I have no way of trying to reupload them & they are not in my iPhoto. Not sure what happened but if there is someway to find them that would be great. I used the "search" feature... nothing. I manually looked in my iPhoto files... nothing. Yet it said they were successfully uploaded. What do I do? Is there a way to find or retrieve my photos? It was over 200 some photos I took today. After this icident I think next time I will choose "Save" photos on SD, wait & make sure the photos have been transfered, then go back & delete them. Never again. With this in mind I do have one other question. Why on earth does iPhoto downsize my original photo files? I always have kept my photos with a certain resolution. iPhoto everytime downsizes them! Is there a way to keep this from happening? I do save my files in RAW format, however I do not have iPhoto, nor a program to open them with at this time. Is there a way to keep my jpegs the same resolution. Why would this be happening? Thanks.

    1. You're not talking to Apple here. This forum is users talking to other users.
    2. You can recover the photos from your SD card with apps like MediaRecover or Picture Rescue
    3. Never let your computer erase data without you first checking that the data is safe. Specifically never use iPhoto (or any other app) to delete the photos from your Camera Card. Disconnect the camera, check the transfer has gone correctly and then use your Camera to Reformat the Card. This has three advantages:
    a. You know your data is safe - because you've taken the time to check it.
    b. Reformatting the card is much, much faster - takes a couple of seconds
    c. Reformatting also refreshes the Directory Structure on the Card, helping prevent issues with the card and prolonging its life.
    4. iPhoto doesn't downsize or change your original files in any way. I'm guessing that you're confusing the Master and thge Preview if you're shooting RAW. But to be sure: What exactly are you shooting?
    5. 'Resolution' is a very vague term. Some folks use it to refer to pixel density, some to refer to file size and others to refer to image quality. What do you mean by it?

  • HT5639 When will I be able to install Windows 8 on a Flash Drive and not in my HDD?

I want to install Windows 8 on a flash drive instead of my HDD, I hope this could be possible in the future.

Ask Microsoft. It's their software. Windows does not boot from external drives.

  • Can I import my music library from pc to imac using a flash drive?

I copied all my cds into my pc itunes library years ago. I just got the new imac and found that musicmatch / icloud blocked more than half the tracks on the imac (I can see them but they are grayed out, won't play, and their icloud status says "waiting"). Trying to import the tracks thru my ipod also didn't work. How do I transfer the (missing?) music over to the imac using a high-capacity flash drive?

The easiest way is to simply copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
This copies the entire library, not only the media.

  • Can I transfer all my music from Mac to PC using external flash drive?

I have an iMac with OS X (about 1000 songs in itunes) and a click-wheel 20G ipod, but the ipod got corrupted and died. Apple gave me a new one, which I haven't touched yet, but I've since gotten a new computer, a PC running XP. I bought a 16G flash drive to transfer my library from the imac to PC, but don't know how. I dragged and dropped my itunes library onto a 16B flash drive, but now my new PC won't recognize the library. Should I use my new ipod to transfer everything? I don't want to format my new ipod for my mac if I'm ultimately going to only use my PC.

Thank you. Yes, I dragged the folder onto the drive, but I didn't go through the "consolidate library" first as shown in that article. I don't have a cd burner. When I plug the drive into my pc, it recognizes the drive (E:), but not the files on it. There are 4 different files (itunes library, ds store, trashes, and itunes music) but they are all showing up as invalid file types. Is it something with the drive?

  • When you import photos into iphoto, is a copy also saved on hard drive?

I photographed a wedding a couple months ago, and had all my photos edited, just needed to burn them to discs for the couple. Well when I opened up my iphoto (08 version I believe, also I'm running OSX 10.5.8 if it helps.) a few weeks ago to export them to a CD it had dumped all of my photos from the library, I had to search and search to find them on the drive. When I found them and imported them into Iphoto (here lies my big problem) nearly every one of them is thumbnail size. I've tried everything I know of, I tried resizing them and exporting them under a different file name, Nope. The worst part is it has replaced itself on the HD so that now both the iphoto and the HD copy are thumbnail sized. Some of them are still full size, but not all of them. Any ideas on what to do?

The Original photos would be inside the iPhoto Library in the Originals folder.

  • Importing photos in iPhoto '06 freezes

When I import photos into iPhoto '06 (with all latest patches), it simply hangs up/freezes/locks up (take your pick) somewhere along the line (never same pic, never same amount of pics in library, etc.)
I've tried to reduce this to the simplest setup. Photos are either JPG or CR2 (Canon RAW). I've copied photo folders over to my desktop, so I'm not importing from camera or CF reader, etc.
I've also moved the "iPhoto Library" from my home directory to the desktop, in order to get it rebuilt (with all new prefs, etc.) to avoid the problem.
However, it always freezes somewhere along the way (there is only a total of about 550 files, roughly 3.5GB of files). Never the same pic, never the same quantity of pics in the library. It usually freezes somewhere around having 175-225 total imported.
To Import, I open up iPhoto, then drag the folder (or individual pic files) over to iPhoto and perform the input. It will chug along quite nicely for a time, but eventually it just freezes on a particular photo, and will consume 180%-195% of CPU time, and can run for hours that way, never finishing. Attempting to cancel the import brings up the dialog of "Cancel/Keep/Delete", but any selection there sends iPhoto back into la-la land.
I use Activity Monitor to force quit iPhoto. Whether I reboot or not, bringing up iPhoto will always bring up a dialog box that a certain number of photos were not imported, and to either finish import or not. Continuing, or attempting to recover the import results in an immediate freeze (never finishes ANY pictures).
On each hang, I move the library out of the way (~/iPhoto Library), and simply rebuild it (I have nothing in it right now anyway0>

    I am using:
    OSX 10.4.9
    iPhoto is 6.0.6 (322)
    QuickTime is 7.1.5
    Started with a cold boot.
I moved ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library to the Desktop
    Also moved ~/library/preferences/com.apple.iphoto.plist
Then loaded up iPhoto. Used File\Import to Library and imported one of the folders from the desktop that contained 109 photos. All of the photos in that folder are JPG. All imported fine, thumbnails, etc. Let's call it "FolderA".
Then ran File\Import to Library again on another folder on my desktop that contained 63 photos, ALL are CR2 RAW format. Let's call it "FolderB".
Waited 5 minutes while the "Importing Photos" whirlygig spun around, never imported one picture. (Yesterday, I successfully imported this entire folder 2 times by dragging and dropping - it was first folder imported). Hit Stop Import, took Delete Photos option. Never quit - had to load up Activity Monitor again and force quit iPhoto. iPhoto was showing between 175-195% utilization.
Moved iPhoto Library folder and .plist again to desktop. Rebooted. Ran iPhoto again, this time, started by using File\Import on "FolderB". Immediate iPhoto freeze-up again. Waited 3 minutes. Killed again.
Moved iPhoto Library folder and .plist again to desktop. Rebooted. Ran iPhoto again, this time, started by dragging and dropping "FolderB". Immediate iPhoto freeze-up again. Waited 3 minutes. Killed again.
Now, after moving both the preferences and the iPhoto Library folder, I can't seem to import ANY CR2 photos.
These same CR2 photos can be displayed just fine in "Preview" (double click filename). Adobe Bridge works fine, so does the CS3 beta on these files on the same machine.
Also - just curious why this is in an iPhoto '05 forum. I didn't specify a forum to place this in, I just posted to the generic iPhoto forum.

I realise you can you can delete them on your ipod slowly as you have to click on each one, and you can restore your ipod, but surely there is a way to get around this?

Thanks If anyone can help me.

Download/install an app is a know possible solution.
    3. Install another app from the App Store
If all user-installed apps are not launching, it could be an Apple ID authorization issue. Download and install an app that isn't already installed on your device to reset this information.
Note: If you have installed apps using multiple Apple ID accounts, you may need to perform this step for each account.

  • When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop.. won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not... need to fix this

When trying to import photos with iPhoto from photoshop... won't let me keeps saying that the photos are already in the iPhoto library but they are not

If you are using Photoshop from within iPhoto the following may help with the workflow.  However, we do need to know the answers to the questions posed by Terence and Larry to be able to help you.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

  • How do I stop iphoto from creating events automatically when I import photos from an external hard drive?

IPhoto is creating events automatically when I import photos and when I merge events and then go to finder>all images, I see iphoto has created several copies of each picture....I try to delete the extra copies but then the albums or events also get affected, even if there is one copy of each photo left in all images...have someone had this problem?

You don't have a problem at all.
IPhoto is creating events automatically when I import photos
This is how iPhoto works. Every photo is in an Event. Events are the basic organisation of the Library. Every import means at least one new Event. Yes you can merge Events after import and so on, but there is at least one Event created at each import.
I see iphoto has created several copies of each picture....
No it hasn't. It hs created versions of the photos, not copies. There will be a couple of thumbnails  for viewing in the iPhoto Window plus the Master and then a edited version for pics that are modified. The icons for each of these may be similar but they are not copies - for a start they are different sizes - and all are required for iPhoto to work.
    go to finder>all images
Don't. This is simply a list of all the images on your computer. It makes no account or allowance for the purpose of these images. Really, if you're using iPhoto ignore this because if you
I try to delete the extra copies
Then you are trashing your Library.
So, this is how iPhoto works, there is no problem and stay away from All Images.
    Regards
    TD

Does this happen if you try to Import to Library within iPhoto, or is it when you connect your camera (and which is set to automatically use iPhoto) that this error message occurs?
If you open Image Capture > Preferences is iPhoto selected as the choice when a camera is connected?

First transfer the photos to a folder on your MacBook using Image Capture in your Utilities folder. Then move them to iPhoto.
BTW, you might want to invest in a cheap USB hub.

most times when I import photos from my desktop or dropbox to iPhoto, iPhoto will keep the title I created for the image as the display title under the image. but occasionally it displays the filename instead and I have to go back through and reenter the title in iPhoto. why the inconsistency? running OS 10.9.5 and using iPhoto 9.5.1

Try this:  select one of the photos that are showing the wrong title and use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Title to File Name menu option.
See if that will put the name that you want under the thumbnail.
