When I move the mouse quickly, mostly over a link on a page, a small black square flashes

When I move the cursor (mouse) quickly, a small black square quickly flashes where my mouse is, mostly it happens when I mouseover a link fast. The square is sometimes a rectangle and is sometimes different sizes and length's, but it is never HUGE. Mainly it is around 70x70 pixels big or less. I can't really remember when this started happening exactly and I have no idea what this is or if its virus related, but I do full scans with Avast and Malwarebytes all the time and they come up clean.
I've never done this Mozilla Help thing before, so forgive me if I fill in the wrong details...

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Actually as Roam said, you can keypress, Option + command + 8
But i think wat you asking is that you dont want the screen mving when you move the mouse. Right?
For that you can, goto, System Preference -> Accessibility -> Zoom -> More Options...
Once you click more option, you'll get a window. Look at the bottom of the window for 3 options with bullet buttons. SELECT "ONLY WHEN THE POINTER REACHES AN EDGE" and click "DONE"

The tabs disappeared at the top, and when I move the mouse up to the top, they do not reappear and I am stuck on the page!

the tabs recede into the top of the screen, along with the toolbar. sometimes, when I move the mouse up to the top, the tabs and toolbar reappear, but sometimes it gets stuck and I am stuck without the toolbar. I can only navigate from the page I am on. I am not the most computer savvy but I am good at following directions! so if you could instruct me how to adjust the settings so the tabs and toolbar remain permanently at the top of the screen, I would really appreciate it, thank you.

You cannot boot an iBook from an external USB drive--only a firewire drive. Actually, the drive is just a drive--it is the enclosure that determines USB vs. FireWire. If you could find an appropriate firewire enclosure, you could remove the drive from the USB enclosure and place it in a firewire enclosure and then be able to boot from that. Or you could just purchase an external firewire drive if those are available where you are.
FireWire external drives are quite useful. One option would be to mount the external drive on the good iBook, format it properly for OS X with Disk Utility, and then use a program like Super Duper to make an exact clone of your internal hard drive. This is a popular way of backing up your stuff. You can boot from either the internal or the external. This means that if your internal hard drive were to die, you would have all your stuff on the external, and could run off of that. Since you are already using the USB for backup, it would probably be best to acquire a new firewire drive for troubleshooting and testing if you decide to go this route, since you really don't want to lose your existing backup.
If you did have a bootable clone, you could see if the sick iBook would boot from it or not. However, it may be more productive to pursue your other thread about the boot problem. I see that Richard has joined the thread as I had hoped he would. He actually works on iBooks and is very knowledgeable.
Also, if you do get the second ibook working and want to install OS9, you might want to post a question in the "Mac OS X v 10.3 Panther and earlier" forum. I'm not up on this myself, but I believe there is something about installing OS 9 drivers while formating or something like that. I believe the smart guys on that forum could give you some guidance so that you can avoid the problems you encountered earlier.

Click on the Hot Corners.. button and look at the four definitions. In the picture below, if you moved the cursor to the right top of the screen, it would slide all the applications off the screen as you describe and show the desktop. Set it to "-" to deactivate.

It's possible you've got a 'hot corner' set up. If you have and move the mouse to a certain corner of the screen it'll do as you describe. Have a look in System Preferences>Mission Control, bottom left of the window click on the 'Hot Corners' button and see if there is anything in there.

I asked this question again and i reported this bug , i am a computer engineer and i tested it with few macbook pro retina laptops , when u use win 8.1 64 bit or 32 bit and install adobe flash under firefox try to play any game in facebook , view video on youtube or use any FLASH video and move the mouse above the screen of the flash game / video / etc , the screen will lag alot .
under chrome this problem doesnt exist but the screen is blurry in chrome when using retina screen thats why firefox is better , but the problem is annoying .
i tried to disable hardware acceleration as you suggested still the same problem

Midi instrument stops playing when I move the mouse button

Hi. Weirdest thing. All of a sudden, I started noticing some strange behavior with my midi input. 1) I can play a selection for a given software instrument, but, if I move the mouse, the midi input freezes (for lack of a better term). I am using logic 9, and it happens with whatever instrument I open.
Bottom line, its as if touching/using the mouse freezes the midi input for about 3 seconds, as if the midi got interrupted by the mouse movement. This hasnt alwatys happened, and the midi output region, when I record, the midi region has a big 'X' in the display of the region. What is that, and what does it mean?

Hi, thanls for your response, and I looked into the event list, but, I dont have a graps of what it is you are suggesting I do. I am a newbie at this, so please bear with me, and break down that answer into a little bit more simplistic terms.

My message bar keeps opening without my hitting the icon. It does it when I move the mouse or track pad to the left top corner of the screen. Any fix for this?

The Message bar opens without clicking on its icon. Usually when I bring the curser to the top left of the screen. Both with mouse and track pad.

When "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, display gets black and a weird pixelation when I move the mouse

When "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, and those X minutes pass by, my MBA logs out. After that, when I want to use it again, I found that display is totally black and if I use the touchpad, then I can start seeing "what is behind" that black screen (Login Window), like you can see on the picture:
I took it to Tech Service and they didnt find out any hardware issue. Any ideas?

I recently found out that this only happens when DISPLAY is set to go to sleep minutes before the "Log out after X minutes of inactivity". I had "Display sleep" option set to 5 minutes and "Log out after 10 minutes of inactivity" and this causes the display to go to sleep first (screen goes black) and then, 5 minutes later, it logs out.
If "Display sleep" is off and "Log out after X minutes of inactivity" is on, the issue does not replicate. So Im thinking it has something to do with the screen being black at the moment it logs out. Can you try and replicate that?
I will be checking the thread you suggested and hopefully oudgrad1764 can find a solution. Thanks a lot.

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Twist screen/mouse the foreground program goes to the back when i try to move the mouse onto it

I am really struggling with this anoying issu. When i open anything and it does not open full screen, when i move the mouse twords it accross another page the program file anything disapears to the back and i have to minimise evrything and chase it back to the desk top. I am dont really know where to start. I have a twist running 8.1 Help !!!

Have you checked the volume button? It might be physically stuck. To determine whether a hardware repair is needed, you need to follow these steps:
1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
After that: test the device to see whether the issue is solved.
2. If the issue is not solved, you should backup the device and restore it as new.

NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup.
If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.

I am using Mac OS X 10.5.8
Screen moves around with moving the mouse, I have checked here that turning off Zoom from the Universal Access and Keyboard & Mouse panes of System Preferences would sort out the problem BUT my 'System Preferences' does not work, when I try to open it: nothing comes up. Please someone may advise if there is any keyboard commands to sort the screen moving issue.
(I know I need an upgrade, but there is massive data, family pics, movies to be backed-up before the upgrade, and I don't really know how to)

Firefox appears to stall, then recovers as I MOVE THE MOUSE

FF seems to stall on browsing anywhere. When I move the mouse it 'unstalls' and completes the DL or refreshes the page or whatever it was suppose to be doing when it stalled.
No error messages at all.

hey, just to keep you updated - there is now a fix available for firefox 25, which should address the particular problem of pages not loading unless the mouse is moved.
you can either choose between switching back to the firefox 25 release (the download link is at [https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/#firefox]) or stay with the beta version - the latter option has the advantage of receiving new features weeks before they are landing in the regular Firefox versions and being able to sound an early alarm in case such serious regressions are occurring, so there is enough time fixing problems ahead of a general release and minimize the general impact.

With the newest auto update version of firefox there is now a white bar that pops up when you move your mouse over that area. i want that gone, how?

when you move your mouse underneath the address bar a white bar pops up, this makes it so you can't click buttons or links on websites, like login buttons for example. also when in full screen mode you can no longer mouse over tabs at the top of the screen, only that white bar shows up. that prtty much kills full screen usage for me. so that popup white bar and the full screen with the white bar without tabs has just about ruined firefox for me. anyway to fix this would be great.
