When I open Firefox, there is no place to type in a web address! What happened to it?

When I open Firefox, the tab to type in the web address is not there, nor anywhere else--Where did it go?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).<br />
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.<br />

  • When I open Firefox there is absolutely no toolbar at the top. No 'File' 'Edit' 'View' 'Favorites' 'Tools' 'Help' buttons, no anything. Any idea's??

When I open Firefox there is no toolbar at all. I have tried deleting and then re-downloading it, but when I click on the icon on my desktop, all that comes up is a page that says "Widgets, Gadgets, RSS feeds, and more." There is no search box to surf the web, there is nothing.

  • I ugraded to firefox 5 - and I deleted a few programs - I must have deleted the navagation tool bar. It shows up blank i.e. no place to type in a web address.

i was deleting a few programs in an effort to delete something that was attached to firefox - and extension.
I must have deleted the part of the navigation tool bar that show a blank space for one to type in a web address or copy and paste a web address.
When I right click at the top of the page I get the navagation tool bar - a space comes and goes with the clicking unclickin of that tool bar.
I have looked all over for that but can't find it.
    any help would be appreciated

    oops!
first, open up what you have left of the toolbar.
now, right click on it and choose 'customize'. You should see something called 'location' in the box that comes up. Click on it and drag it to where you want it on that tool bar. You can also click and drag around other items on that toolbar to replace them, or move them as needed. :)

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.

  • When I open firefox there is no menu bar to open urls

I've loaded firefox and run setup, but when I boot up firefox I get a screen without a menu bar so I can't use it to visit websites.

    <p>Hey,</p>
    <p>are we talking about a <em>Menu bar</em> or a <em>Navigation toolbar</em>?</p>
    <p>In any case:</p>
<p>Hold down the <em>Alt</em> key, then go to View &gt; Toolbars and check <em>Navigation toolbar</em> and <em>Menu bar</em>.</p>

  • When I open firefox, there is a HUGE gap between the tabs and the menu - it's taking up room on my screen.

I wish I could add a picture. But the menu bar
    is here (for example)
the back buttons (which don't work) are here
    and the tabs
    are
    way
    down here
There is a HUGE gap between them and it's taking up real estate on my screen! How do I fix this.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Hi, when I open firefox, there's a box in the middle the screen that says:"Thanks for choosing Firefox! To get the most out....".

Is there any way to remove that annoying box ? thanks Sonny

You can hide the box that shows the snippets with code in userChrome.css
Add code to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css userChrome.css] below the @namespace line.
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

  • I have somehow added a divider to my browser screen. When I open firefox there are 2 screens with seperate scroll bars. I am not using the add on feature that allows screen seperation. I cannot find a command to remove the 2nd screen.

The Left side of my browser screen has a seperate screen with it's own scroll bar. I can use the curser to pull this screen half way to the right. it has a seperate web page than the main window. I can't find a command to remove it. I did have a yahoo toolbar I thought may have been involved.

    Hi,
Please check if this happens in [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode Safe Mode.] Safe mode disables the installed '''Extensions''', themes ('''Appearance''') and '''Plugins''' in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons'''.

  • When i open Firefox (in general), i dont mean sign into any email address, just to start using Firefox, i want to have always to sign in with my proxy account = username and password..how? thank you!

when i click on the Firefox icon i want always to have to sign in with my proxy username and password.. i want more privacy in using Firefox in general.. is that possible? thanks

If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) like <i>Adblock Plus</i> or <i>NoScript</i> or <i>Flash Block</i> that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
You can use one of these to start Firefox in <u>Safe mode</u>:
*On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
*On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
*Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
If it works in Firefox Safe-mode then disable all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • I've downloaded the upgrade and indicated "run"but when I open firefox it says I do not have the latest version. What do I do.

my question just about says it all. DOn't know what else you want. I have a Windows Vista and have been using FIrefox for at least 4 yeas.

Hi lonepinemax, it's good you have options! Firefox 22 doesn't run plugins where the page sets them to '''hidden="true"'''. I don't know whether there is any chance of that changing, so hopefully the site will update soon.
''Edit: Just learned this will change in Firefox 23. Details below.''

  • When I click on a link from Google or type in a web address directly, invariably, Firefox tries to load the webpage and seems to hang.

However, when I click "stop" and then "reload" it almost always opens rights up to the webpage.
If I open IE and try the same webpage at the same time, it loads right away.
    Any ideas?

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Oh, good. I'm not losing my mind! I'm having the same problem on every Firefox page, starting this morning. I would think this is some sort of hack job going on, but if not, it's REALLY annoying either way. Just to check I also loaded my Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome, and they're loading normally.
