When I purchased my new iMAC 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 I didn't recieve any program/system CD's. If I want to reload a app how would I do it? On my other Mac's I always had system disc's etc.
Thank you

I think Apple has reacted to a perceived---or actual---"dumbing down" of the user base. When new Macs shipped with disks, all too many people either blindly threw the disks away of lost them. There are posts all over these forums from people who no longer have their install/restore disks. Some can no longer get proper replacement disks becsue their computer is too old and Apple no longer has a stock of that model's disk.
This is not unique to Apple. PC makers are doing the same thing--providing a restore function internally.

My ISP is virgin media wireless (just purchased). My email account is AOL when I log into my email account the page is not the same as my on my old computer. Thinking it is because I do not have the latest version I downloaded the 9.0 version but when I try to open it for some reason mac enters the down load into an email. After much hair pulling I send it to my email account to open but am unable to open it any ideas please ?

Not possible via Apple's target display mode. This Apple article has the details:

  • IMAC 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 not display internet news pictures

Help, please. My iMAC 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 does not display internet news pictures. How can I 'fix' this?

I had no problems watching the streams & videos using FF v23.0.1.
Make sure you are using the latest version of Adobe Flash Player
    Check Flash Version
Adobe strongly recommends that you first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html#main_1 0_4
Follow the instructions closely, such as quitting ALL applications first before installing.  Repair permissions and restart your computer after the installation is completed.

Since I cannot read German, I was wondering if there was some sort of "Help" listing at the bottom of the website you linked?  If so, there should be a section or a FAQ section that should tell you what you need and/or the system requirements to watch their streams & videos.

I've no idea why it has stopped working, but you could reset it:

  • Replacing RAM in an iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)?

    Can I install 2 x 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2 gb) and 2 x 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (4 gb) together in an iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)?

I have to admit that I do not know - I rely on OWC to have the correct RAM I need. Since you got me curious, I chased around for specs:
Here is the specs from Apple:
No mention of either there; OWC lists SO-DIMM. And Crucial doesn't mention anything either.

  • Downloading avchd video from Canon XA10 to iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)

I have a mid 2011 iMac running Mountain Lion. I typically download HD AVCHD video from my Canon XA10 camcorder by inserting an SD card from the camera into the side of the computer. When I click on the SD card, thumbnails of the video footage appear on the iMac and when I click on a thumbnail, the clip opens in Quicktime. Now I can view the clip. This is all fine.
Here's my question: when I look at the Quicktime movie inspector, the following appears:
The original footage is 1920 x 1080 since I shoot at the highest setting on the camera (MXP).
But the "Current Size:" above in the inspector is 1736 x 977.
Does Quicktime degrade the footage? Is there a way to preserve the full 1920 x 1080?
When I import the footage into iMovie (which I do directly from the chip into iMovie) is the quality degraded as well, even though the transfer into iMovie doesn't involve Quicktime (at least I don't think it does).
If, after sharing a clip from iMovie via Quicktime to create a file to upload to Vimeo, I can view it in Quicktime and the same thing happens:
The inspector says "Current Size: 1736x 977."
Any advice? Am I doing something wrong and as a result losing resolution?
    Thank you,
    David

  • IMac 21.5-inch (mid 2011), noisy hdd

    Hi,
In may of 2011 I bought an iMac iMac 21.5-inch (500GB, i5). Using it the first couple of days, I noticed the hard drive was making much more noise then my previous computers. Also my Macbook Pro didn't make that much of a noise. With noise is mean typically hard drive noise you hear when the HDD of a computer is really old. Because I already turned back another iMac to the store, there was dust under the glass, I didn't wanted to bring this one back again. By the way, I have an WDC WD5000AAKS-402AA0 HDD in my iMac.
Now i think the noise is becoming heavier. It's irritating me. I hear this noise usually when booting up the machine, mostly after five or seven minutes it stops. It returns back when starting up and use some programs like iTunes, CS5 or Vmware Fusion.
Most of the time I have iTunes playing music so I don't hear it. But I don't think a machine of 1200 euro's should produces this noise. And maybe the HDD is going to fail soon.
Is there anbody here that has the same kind of problem? How dit you fixed it? Returned the iMac back to Apple to get it fixed?
    Greets,
    Mark

You should have returned it to the store when the problem first occurred. Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

  • Add one 2GB Ram card only (to make 6GB) in iMac 21.5 inch mid-2011

I have just upgraded my early 2008 iMac and now have a spare 2GB memory card. Can I add this to my wife's mid-2011 21.5 inch iMac? The top two slots are occupied by 2 x 2GB RAM. If so, how would I configure the 3 x 2GB in the four slots?
    John

In addition to Mike's response, the iMac must have the memory added in matched pairs.  That is, two side-by-side slots have to have the same size ram modules,  The over-under slots do not have to match in size but you cannot leave a slot empty.  You must have either two slots filled or four slots filled.
iMacs are even more picky than other Macs about their ram...you absolutely must use the correct speed ram in all four slots.

  • IMac 21.5 inch mid 2011 white screen when I wake it,  holding down mouse button and sweeping the screen restores the desktop.  Any one else had this and what was the solution?

When the Mac is awaken from sleep mode the screen is white.  I can hold the mouse button down and sweep the screen and the desktop reappears and everything works as normal..This just started and I am concerned that some hardware, video card or video memory is failing.  Has anyone else had this problem and what was the solution?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.  Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Changing hd to sshd on iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011

    Hello,
I have a problem. I upgraded my HD to SSHD(Hybrid, made by Seagate). Now I have 2TB drive, model ST2000DX001.
OF course after installing new drive my fans spinned like helicopter, but I solve this by reseting NVRAM and install SSD fan control app. THis is great, BUT my problem is that whatever OS I will install, that OS sooner or later will start rebooting. In system repport I found info that Kernel Panic occur.
Another thing is that (because I'm musician) I cannot install my music software(even MADE for specific system)Sibelius and his sounds. System is reboting during instalation or just itself, even if nothing was open. Looks like temperature is high and thats why my iMac is rebooting, but I've checked and my temp is about 38C.
I dont want to go back to my old HD. Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help, because its getting frustrated. Instead of making music and arrangements I'm sitting almost 3 weeks and reinstalling the systems.
ps. Right now I have installed Mountain Lion.

For some users, they did OK with the fan control software, at least for a time and for some, the time of overheat and reboot or system damage may be yet to come, after replacement of the original hard disk drive with a third party or even a drive that looked like and was labelled near identical to the original HDD shipped with the iMac.
However, there is a matter of the sensors not being detected by the computer, after a hard disk drive install, replace or upgrade; usually when an authorized certified Apple specialist does the service, other things are checked over and perhaps a new cable is installed (of the correct type) so the sensors do not fail to be seen by the system, and the fans do not run endlessly. And overheating is avoided. Maybe a sensor is in their HDD, too?
Some users put their SSD in an externally enclosed self-powered case, and used the fastest wired interface cable-to-port connections their computer allowed, and left the internal alone, if not upgraded by Apple techs. A full system clone may be run from an external drive, too; the ultimate bootable backup.
There are some writings and experiences noted online by users of iMacs and other more portable SSD Macs where they've found with mavericks there is a joining of SSDs and HDDs into a 'fusion-like' drive. This may be good, but also may make for unusual issues.
Anyway, thought I'd mention the similarity to the problem with the fans, overheating, and the like in relation to changing out the original hard disk drive; since there is the matter of sensor loss behind this problem.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Microphone is not working on my iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011

I have gone through System Preferences and clicked on Sound. Once there, I have gone to input and adjusted. No changes. I also did shut it down and start up while pushing command, option, P, R at the same time. No change. I also Created another Log In account and th microphone was not working there either. Please help me resolve this.

Here are a couple of additional suggestions, but after these I unfortunately have run out of suggestions for you.
Are you using one of the current Apple USB or wireless Apple keyboards? If you are using an older Apple or a 3rd party keyboard then it's possible your system is not recognizing the key presses required to run AHT.
Another way to verify the USB ports on your iMac is to use the built in 'System Profiler' feature of Mac OS X. First, plug in a USB device to the suspect USB port, then pull down the Apple menu and select 'About this Mac'. When the 'About this Mac' window opens click on the 'More Info...' button, then click on the 'System Report...' button. Once the system profiler window open click on 'USB' in the Hardware column on the left side to display your USB device tree. You should see a list of all the USB devices that are attached to your system including the FaceTime camera, SD card reader, and your Bluetooth card that are inside your iMac. Do you see the device attached into the suspect USB port? If you move the device to another USB port you can press the command-R keys to refresh the device tree list. If the known good device doesn't show up when it is connected to the suspect port then you have confirmed that you have an issue with that port. Even if you choose not to take your system in for service I still recommend contacting Apple so that you can create a case to document the issue in case you want to fix it at a later date.

  • IMAC 21.5-inch, Mid 2011

    Dear All,
I need someone to come to my aid regarding the following issue
"The update “Mac OS X Update” can’t be saved. Software Update can’t connect to the update server. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet, and then try again"
The above message is what I get when I try to download and update the latest software 10.7.5 on my iMAC, (about 900MB) although I haven't used the system for over 4 months. However my internet connection is very strong and I am able to do other downloads as well as browse.
    Thank you for your assistance.
    Shehu

Try downloading OS X 10.7.5 from the Support site > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1582

  • I have ordered RAM chips for my Imac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 (2x 4GB) from Other World Computing and they don't work.

I have tried to install on two separate chip orders.  One was the initial order and the other set was the replacement chips.  I followed all the installation instructions Apple has on their site.  I have even watched a few videos to make sure.  I have bought RAM chips before for my Macbook Pro and they work fine.  Am I purchasing the wrong RAM chips?  Here is the type of RAM chips I ordered... 8.0GB (2x4.0GB Kit) PC3-10600 DDR3 1333MHz SO-DIMM 204 Pin CL9 SO-DIMM.

That appears to be the correct dimms:
    204-pin PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Whether yours follow any additional apple requirments is another question.  Was there any mention about apple compatibility from the place you bought them?
If they aren't working they are probably bad or missing some additional apple requirement.  But try reversing them first or using one at a time.
FYI, OWC sells that stuff too (definitely apple compatible).  And if you follow that link you will again see you have the correct specs.
