I am having problems when trying to move an object - a copy is being moved instead of the object itself.
What is wrong - is it the "new way" in CS5 - can I remove this somehow and get back the old way, or is something wrong with my mac?

In addition to what Monika and Mike said (and presuming Alt>Option key was meant in your case), the following applications are known offenders:

The ultimate solution may be to uninstall, and in some cases (including Quicktime) make sure the programme folder is deleted.
So far, I remember no definite reports on Firefox itself causing trouble.

I keep having kernel Panics caused when I try to move file from external hd to my mac.

i keep getting the below panic report when i try to move a movie file from my external hd to my mac. My MacBook Pro runs 10.7.5 the hard drive (HD) is formatter to fat 32 so i can hook it to our xbox. The HD is a 4tb seagate backup + desk media. it is partitioned into 2 two TB both with fat 32 format. Please help I dont know what to do.

It's likely that the drive is malfunctioning or that there is an internal hardware fault, but to confirm, see below.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Got to your Desktop folder in the Finder sidebar, command i will open the info pane.
What are your permissions here? Unlock the pad lock and Change to read write.
Are you experiencing other problems?

How are you trying to transfer it and what are your setting on iTunes. I'm not on a computer that has iTunes at the moment so I'm going from memory and similar issue. If iTunes is set to sync music then I don't think you can select and drag, if set to manual manage music then you can. Also make sure you are dragging to music on the iPhone.

to the mailboxes and the progress bar shows particular mailbox. Be sure that the user has at least one email address.

The underlying connection was closed. Unable to connect to the remove server.
Please check if you can expand PF tree in ESM.

Why do I get "not connected to Internet " when I try to move within a website?

I am using Verizon hotspot to connect my laptop with internet. Never had problems until IOS 8 came out. My laptop is XP but I don't want a new computer yet! Since I downloaded 8 on my phone my laptop does not work properly! I have iPhoto '09. The problem occurs when I try to move a photo from iPhoto onto a document or anywhere. I click on the photo and try to drag it to the document. When I do this a message box pops up saying that the file cannot be opened because it is empty. This only happens with a small number of photos but I just don't understand the fact that I can see these photos (and print them but only directly from iPhoto) but I can't do anything with them since, for some reason, the computer is seeing the file as empty.
