When i try to open dmg file for newest version of itunes, my mac pro does not open to install and freezes my main desktop toolbar so i can't select the apple to shut down, it also enables me to open any other programs?HELP PLEASE
i've been forced by my comp to shut down several times by holding the power button because of the inability to select the apple and shut down correctly..idk if i got a rare mac virus or bug.. and some programs simply won't open when clicked on.. i don't know how this is possible after years of great performance..
Where did you get this "dmg file"? To install the newest version of any Apple software, including iTunes, all you have to do is use Software Update from the Apple menu. This doesn't download any dmg, it automatically installs the software for you.
Maybe try repairing your permissions from Disk Utility (in your Utilities folder).
Also - What version of OS X do you have? Please update your forum profile so we can help you better.

When I try to download the newest version of Firefox I do not get the window where you are to drag the Firefox icon into the applications folder. When I try to manually open the dmg file I get a dialog box saying the image is corrupted.
What version of OS X are you using?
If you have OS X 10.3.9 or earlier, the last version of Firefox that works is Firefox 2.0.0.20, if you try to install a more recent version you get the message about a corrupt download. -

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful. -

How much free space is there on Your Mac main Start-Up hard disk ? for
• SD-video - I never go under 25Gb
• HD-material used - I guess that x5 more would do.
Even as DVD is as standard SD-Video it needs space to scale down HD and Mac OS needs lot's for it's temp. files.
I do not "Finalize" or use "Share to iDVD" - but I do "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (not HD or other resolution as this will degrade the final result)

Look on one of your bank statements and be sure to enter the billing address exactly as it shows on the statement. Some folks forget where they actually get the statement. They put their home address in iTunes/Mac App Store and they actually get the statement at their place of employment or vice versa.

I had this problem recently with a 3-year old Mac Pro intel, which was eventually replaced by Apple due to myriad other problems. When the frozen mouse happened, there was nothing I could do. Very frustrating to have the screen boot and the cursor is up there stuck, on the top left corner of the screen. Frozen. I called support several times. They were amazed. At one point they had me buy a cheap USB mouse (I was using a wireless mouse from Logitech and they thought there might be some kind of conflict). The USB mouse didn't work, either. Neither did an Apple mouse when I went out to buy one.
I ended up driving 70 miles to take the Mac to an Apple Store. I think they reinstalled the (Leopard) system in some secret way, because when the mouse was frozen so was everything else and I couldn't open the disk drive to put the OSX disk in there.
Why I'm here right now is that the same thing happened today with my NEW 3-month-old REPLACEMENT MAC PRO using its brand new wireless mouse, and I was hoping to find some insight. Again, a frozen cursor after the boot. Same top-left corner of the screen. Unlike you, when I click the mouse nothing happens -- no drop down.
Luckily, when I hard-rebooted by holding the button in, the mouse cursor came back. This time. Now I am afraid to turn my computer off. Been there done that before. Anyone have suggestions?

When I try to save a file to an existing folder, the folder icons are there, but no folder names. I have to manually click on each one to find the folder I'm looking for. I've had this issue for months. Any suggestions?

I have a macbookpro. I use Aperture and Iphoto. When I connect any camera to the Mac it does not open it as a device in Iphoto, Aperture or in Finder. It use to work but just stopped. Any sugestions?
Here is the full story. It may be long so please bear with me. I take a lot of pictures and movies. Since I have over 30,000 pictures I decided to place the Iphoto library on an external drive to save space on my internal drive since ot was getting very full. After I did that it worked fine for a while. Then one day I could not open the Iphoto library. Since I was overseas at the time I brought it to the IStudio ( not an Istore) overseas. They said to rebuild the library and they would do that for me. It took all day since I had so many pictures. When they called me and told me it was ready, I went to pick it up. They started to show me the new library. It crashed again. Not knowing how to fix this at the ISudio, they installed Aperture and imported the Iphoto library. This worked fine for a short time.When back in the states, it crashed again just like Iphoto. I took it to the IStore. They did not know why the overseas Istudio did what they did what they did and rebuilt my aperture library. Again it worked fine. Now that I am overseas again. It crashed again. However, I concluded that the reason for these crashes is becuase I have the file on an external drive that derives its power from the Mac and not by itself. When I use it and stop for a while the MAC will go to sleep and this cuases the external drive to shut down. This then causes the library to have inconsistancies. Therefore, when it happened this time I tried to repair the library and after 36 hours it would close down Aperture. Therefore I decided to rebuild the library. That did not work either. So I tried opening the Aperture library with Iphoto. That seemed like it was going to work but after importing half of the 30,000 plus pictures. I photo shut down. I then made a new aperture libary and erged the old library with it. This worked. I now have an aperture library that works. However, when I plug my camera into the MAC nothing happens. The camera does not show up in devices in either Aperture, I photo nor in Finder. The USB port and cord I use works fine becuase I can read my external hard drives fine. I checked as SIG suggested in this thread and everything is set to open aperture when the camera is connected.
I have the newest OS version 10. 7. 2 and the computer frequently updates all my programs. I have not installed any ne software lately. The problem happens both if I am on battery or plugged in. Just before I came overseas the IStore replaced the Battery. I can go back to the IStudio here overseas but the last time I was there and told them about the problem ( I did not have my computer with me) they did not impress me with their wisdom. I will be back in that city in a month and can go there if need be. Thanks for all the help so far. God bless. -
Why do I get redirected to a blank page when I try to download .dmg files?
I have been having real difficulties for about the last 2 months downloading .dmg files. Instead, I have often been redirected to a blank page, which takes a while to load and the downloads window in my Safari browser does not recognize the download at all. If I try to "save target as" I simply get a useless HTML file. Anyone else have the same problem?
Make sure your software is up to date. Click your Apple menu / Software Update...

Actually, that's not good enough. What's the point of having a separate audio output if the hdmi is always required?
It's a shame that the AppleTV doesn't do just audio playback, as it seems like a feature that should be present considering that it provides a discrete audio output.
Airport Express is not an option, as I want to have digital audio output and be able to process it with my DAC.
I don't have an A/V receiver, just a stereo integrated amplifier, so I can't connect the HDMI to a receiver like others who had a similar issue. I'll try to "fool" the Apple TV with an HDMI switcher and see if that solves the problem. In the meantime, I found out that my TV (sony) has an option to turn off the backlight, which does the trick, although it's a little annoying to surf the TV menu for that option every time I just want to play some music.
I'm really disappointed by this, and I'm looking forward to a firmware update that fixes this issue (hopefully there will be one) -
Cannot print from firefox at all.
In Internet Explorer, I was able to print by pushing the print button, but when opening a frame, like in mapquest, the embedded print button brings up an options window that has print frames options in it, but when hit OK in this box, a second error box comes up with a yellow exclamation point and nothing prints. I have a feeling that it is the same problem with both browsers, but would prefer using firefox. Can you help with this?Yes, I tried that. The files were ordered by their original numbers as imported from the camera, but I batched them through Phocoshop to downsize all of them into a more manageable file size. I opened that destination folder from quick time from where it said select image sequence. I clicked on the first one and opened it. The result was a large image with an arrow indicating a movie was ready to go. When I pressed the arrow, though, I realized it had only imported that one frame so there was no movie. The files are Jpgs and are about 450 KB each.
To your knowledge are there any links to iMovie tutorials or quick time tutorials that may address this situation? Maybe there will be one I haven't looked at yet.
