Help. My old @us.army.mil email address was terminated by the army. I used that address to register my first apple id account on my iPad. I can't remember my original Apple ID number and if I ask to reset my password, Apple sends the reset link to my old non-working email address. I have a new gmail address and a new Apple ID number associated with that address. How do I get my iPad to use my new gmail address and new apple ID number? Remember, I can't log out of my old account because I can't remember the password. Amd Apple will only reset the password by sending a link to my old, non functioning army email account. Make sure that the printer software is fully updated. Sometimes you have to install a firmware update for the printer before it will work with AirPrint, you can check for updates on the Brother website.
If the firmware is up to date and If you are sure that you installed the software correctly, try rebooting the printer, your router and the iPad. Unplug the printer and the router from power for about 30 seconds. Plug them both back in...router first.
Reboot the iPad. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
See if the printer will work after you reset everything.

As James says, make sure that you are using the IMAP servers for your email. You will need to check the help pages for your email provider to get the correct settings in all your devices. POP really doesn't fit the needs of todays mutiple access, always on internet, so you are better off moving to IMAP.

Apple don't make any printers, but there are a number of the printers that are AirPrint-enabled, which you should be able to print to just by the printer and the iPad being on the same wifi network - the models that support AirPrint are listed on this page (the page also includes a bit of troubleshooting at the bottom of it) and it includes :

HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-In-One E710n
If your's isn't one of those then you could see if HPs own ePrint app works with it, or there are third-party printer apps such as PrintCentral Pro and Print n Share which might work it

Either of these two options allow you to use any printer available to your Mac: wired, wireless, or USB-only.
3. A free iPad - resident app such as Brother iPrint&Scan. Canon, Epson, and HP have equivalent apps.
The disadvantage of such apps is that their functions are more limited than having a true AirPrint print option appear in apps that can print, and can generally print only some types of documents.
Otherwise you will need to buy an AirPrint printer or multifunction device. I recommend AirPrint compatible Brother printers and multifunction devices over those of other manufacturers.
