When I try to send an email I get a message - Non ASCII characters in the local part of the recipient address.

I am trying to send an emails to Italy. When I click send I get a message ( Non-ASCII characters in the local part of the recipient address). [email protected]  is one of the email address I am trying to send to. My other email address' work OK. I have sent emails to these Italian address before with no problem.

    Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder (or whatever it is called by yor provider) so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails

    I used to send out christmas greetings from my biz to groups of 20 customers, in BCC format. all addresses are good, but the emails don't get sent now because of the supposed ASCII problem.

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

    When I try to send an email either new, or reply on my phone I receive a notification that recepient will not allow relaying.  The email will then sit in my outbox.  At some point it will send but it is hardly dependable.  What is wrong with my settings?

    The collum to the right listed similar problems.  The solution appears to be that under smtp outgoing settings the user name and password are listed as optional.  I have not plugged in the information and it seems to be working.  However from my office it always allowed the relaying.  The true test will be when I try to respond later from the road.

The message is something like, you have exceeded your limit on messages so your message will be stored in the outbox. I don't send more than 30 emails a day, and i use two other email addresses.     Change the password on that e-mail account. It's possible that your account has been hacked/spoofed and spammers have used it to blast out junk, leaving you to 'pay the price'. If it's one where you can contact the company, contact them and ask them what's going on. (if this is g-mail, yahoo, hotmail, don't bother, there's no way to contact any sort of support)

    If you purchased about 2 years ago new I am sure it is a Intel iMac. To find out what type of iMac you have just click on the Apple menu item in the finder and select about this Mac. I would check the ISP mail site and get the correct outgoing mail server info.

    The specific text of the error message is very important here — I'm not sure exactly you're encountering here.
    If you're able to connect to your email server and are able send email to other email addresses and if the failures are specific to one email recipient address, then please contact the intended recipient of the failing email, and confirm their address is valid.  (This is the way I'm reading your question.)
    If you are unable to send any email to any other email addresses and this is specific to your email address, then try the web mail client interface (if one is available) to verify your login user and password, and check with your email ISP for assistance.  If your email password works via web mail, follow this Apple troubleshooting guide, then — if everything else fails — I'd probably then entirely remove the email account from Mail.app and re-add it per your email ISP's particular setup requirements.  (Some issue with the setup or maybe a corrupt setting in OS X or a problem at the mail ISP servers is a common problem, but this effects attempts to send to all email addresses via that account.)
    An email account setup is specific to an email provider, unfortunately.   If you're using one of the more common email ISPs, then there are usually setup guides and frequently-asked questions posted online.
