What gen iPod Touch is it ? If it's the second gen then it only supports up to iOS 4.2.1
If it's a later model then what happens when you try to update it via your computer's iTunes (and you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer) ?

When I try to update my iTunes, it tells me that I have the latest version, but I only have 10.6.3 - how can I override this?
I'm sorry but your post seems vague as to exactly what version of what you are running, therefore, it comes as a surprise that you mention that "it" won't let you update iTunes. Did you run Software Update or try updating from within iTunes?
If you are running a Mac under Mac OS X 10.6.3, then if you should be able to update that by using System Update to version 10.6.8 - first and foremost.
Then, assuming you can run Mac OS X 10.6.8; I would think that you can (secondarily) update iTunes to Version 10.7 or Ver. 11.0.5.; IMHO 10.7 is better as it has Coverflow. Nonetheless...

Hello - I am trying to update my Iphone 4 from its current Ios (4.3.3) to the latest Ios (7.x.x?). I currently do not sync using icloud, and have only started syncing to my itunes today.
So far, I have backed up my Iphone using Itunes, transferred all my purchases using Itunes, and imported all my photos using Iphoto.
Then clicked on my Iphone in the left hand Column and in the screen that appeared found the "Update" button. Next to the update button read "A newer version of the iPhone software is available (version7.0). To update your iPhone with the latest software, click Update."
I then clicked the "Update" button and a pop-up message reading "This version of iTunes (10.6.3) is the current version." appeared.
Please advise why this happened, and how I should go about restoring and updating this Iphone.
After updating to the latest IOS, my next step will be to sign up for iCloud.
Thanks clever mac folk!Hello hsielglad,
Thank you for your question. iTunes 11.1 is required to update to and sync with iOS 7. If you are still running iTunes 10.6.3, I recommend trying to obtain the update by going to the iTunes menu and selecting Check for Updates.

If you continue to get the message that iTunes is up to date, you can download the latest version of iTunes here:

Once the file downloads, double click on the installation file that downloaded to initiate the installation.

When I try to update my iPod touch, a message saying there isn't enough space on my computer appears and all media on my iPod will be lost, should I proceed with the update?
My iTunes Library is on my computer, I have done a backup manually, and all of my music is on an external hard drive (as well as my iTunes library). Thanks a lot Recycle bin is empty, I will move some files from the C drive to an external hard drive, then do the update, and then move the files back. Any files you recommend not moving to the external hard drive at all?

i have apps to be updated but when i try to update them a message pops out saying "You have updates for other accounts, please sigh in with the other id". Can some one help me how can i still update the same with the new apple id ive created. As i dont have the access to the earlier id anymore.
You cannot. The apps are assigned to that Apple ID and there is nothing you can do to change that. You could choose to download them again with the new Apple ID, any paid apps will need to be purchased again.
Hope that helps. -
I can't upgrade my MAC os from 10.7.5 to the latest available .
Usual way of software update does not help.
Keeps saying you have the latest update .To get beyond 10.7.5, you must go to the App Store and purchase an upgrade.
Currently Mavericks is free

When I try to update my apps my old account out to enter the password when I changed everything
I try to update my apps but when I click update all a blue box comes out with a apple Id that is old and I don't use it no more I went to I iTunes store and changed all my info but it still comes out not my new one so it's not letting me
It's been some time since I changed my Apple ID, but if memory serves, when I did I received an email from Apple saying my ID had been changed I had to confirm the change. Did you get a confirmation email from Apple? If you did not, call AppleCare and let them know you changed your ID and are having this issue.

I downloaded the FaceTime app to my macbook pro- it worked great. All of a sudden, it won't allow me to log in with my apple ID, won't advance to the next screen.
I tried to trash it, won't let me.
I tried to download another from the app store- says I have a newer version
any suggestions how to make it work for me?thanks for your reply. I tried this without success. My apple ID is fine- I verified it and it works. I sign in and it takes me to the page saying "NEXT" but when I click on that, it takes me back to the sign in page. My contacts all disappeared. And I cannot open the FaceTime Preferences pane- is grey and Not able to be clicked on to open. My apple ID works but my FaceTime will not.
any other suggestions

i have a ipod 3rd generation when i try to update it its says i have the latest version
Look at the back of the iPod. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. The 2nd generation iPod touch is model A1288, and 3rd generation iPod touch is model A1318. If you have a second-generation iPod touch, the last release of iOS is can run is 4.2.1.
