When I turn on my computer I get the following error messages: Insecure Startup Item disabled. "Library/StartupItems/HP IO" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings. Also for HP Trap Monitor.  How do I fix these?

When I turn on my computer I get the following error messages:
Insecure Startup Item disabled. "Library/StartupItems/HP IO" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
Insecure Startup Item disabled. "Library/StartupItems/HP Trap Monitor" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
How do I fix these?

Library/LaunchAgents: com.promethean.activmgr.plist
Library/LaunchDaemons: com.microsoft.office.licensing.helper.plist, com.promethean.activhardwareservice.plist
Library/StartupItems: HP IO folder - HP IO, Resources, StartupParameters.plist
HP Trap Monitor folder - HP Trap Monitor, Resources, StartupParameters.plist
These are the system extension errors
"/System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext"
"/System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleMux Control.kext"
"/System/Library/Extensions/AppleGraphicsControl.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePoli cyControl.kext"
"/System/Library/Extensions/BJUSBLoad.kext"
"/System/Library/Extensions/EPSONUSBPrintClass.kext"
I do not know what any of these do or how to fix them.  I have run multiple disk permission repairs & disk repairs.  The startup & system extension errors continue to come up.
I even followed the directions to move HP IO & HP Trap Monitor to the trash, run disk permissions repair, put back in folder, then restart - and still am getting error message.

  • How do I deal with "StartUpItems if2k" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings?

Whenever I turn on or restart my MBP, a dialog box appears saying --> “/Library/StartupItems/if2k” has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
    How can I fix this?
First, I searched online and found a site with a If2k_Remover_V2.zip file, but whenever I try to open the link, a page comes up saying,
    Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /w/files/if2k/If2k_Remover_V2.zip on this server.
    Any thoughts on this?
Also, I see the if2k folder in the Library/StartUpItems; is it something I can just drag into the Trash?  Or would that be a bad move?

Did you ever figure this out? I just upgraded to Lion on my Air and I have the same issue.

  • Help!! Can someone help me with this message I keep getting before startup, please ?? Here it is: "/Library/Startupitems/Intego Backup Manager Pro" has not been started because it does not  have the proper security settings. Help!?!?

    Hello:
I keep getting this message upon startup. Can't figure out how to address it. Here it is.
"/Library/Startupitems/Intego Backup Manager Pro" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
    Any suggestions?

There's an invisible one name "Icon" according to the error message.
Enable Finder to Show Invisible Files and Folders
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder.  At the prompt enter or paste the following command line then press RETURN.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    killall Finder
To turn off the display of invisible files and folders enter or paste the following command line and press RETURN.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
    killall Finder
Alternatively you can use one of the numerous third-party utilities such as TinkerTool or ShowHideInvisibleFiles - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
First, make invisible files visible. Find the invisible file in that folder and remove it. Please be sure you are looking in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder. There is another one in the /Home/Library/ folder. Be sure you look in the right one.

  • Error message: ""/Library/StartupItems/IntegoCommon" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings."

I recently got a new Macbook Pro. I transferred my info from my old mac. Now when I startup my Macbook Pro, I get this error message "“/Library/StartupItems/IntegoCommon” has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings." I have run Disk Utility, but nothing has changed.
    Thanks!

Uninstall any Intego junk according to its instructions and ensure that all its components have been completely eradicated from your Mac. You may need to download Intego's installer so that you can run its uninstaller.
Intego will make your Mac run very poorly, unacceptably so. Never install such junk on a Mac.

I am trying to restore an older iPod Touch, but do not have the passcode.  I am getting an error message saying that I need to free up some space, but I cannot because I don't have the passcode and have never synced this device to my account.  Help..

If it is asking for the screen-lock passcode then:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen

    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

There are bunches of kexts loaded in Tiger; you can see them in System Profiler.  The info from my TiBook shows the following:
That being said, you might want to do an NVRAM reset, since you have made a hardware change.  Boot into open firmware by holding down the cmd-opt-O-F key combination until you get to the white OF terminal screen.  Then type the following two commands:
    reset-nvram <enter>
    reset-all  <enter>
which reboots the machine and forces it to rebuild its device table.
If that doesn't work, you may have a damaged kext cache file, which will require some single user skulduggery.  This one is a little more complicated but may also clear up the problem as well.  You can boot into single-user mode by holding down the cmd-S key combination as you boot until you get to a black Unix terminal screen.  The routine goes like this:
    /sbin/mount   -uw   /   <enter>
    cd   /System/Library   <enter>
    rm    Extensions.kextcache  <enter>
    rm   Extensions.mkext  <enter>
    touch   Extensions   <enter >
    shutdown   -r   now  <enter>
The last command does a graceful shutdown and then reboots the machine.  This will force a rebuild of the extensions cache files which may clear up your problem.

Try holding the Shift key down at bootup to see if it disables that kext or whatever the problem is.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • On my laptop I'm getting the message on startup "Insecure Startup item disabled"  How do I stop it from coming up?  Thanks.

On my laptop I get the message Insecure Startup item disabled.  "/Library/Startupitems/PACESupport" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings".
This hadn't happened until after I had used a WiFi connection at a hotel where we were staying.  If I click OK it goes away - no problem - but comes back next time I start it up.  How do I get rid of the message?
    Appreciate any help!

    Go to /Library/StartupItems
Move the PACESupport file(s) from the StartupItems folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, see if it went away.

  • Update to 10.6.3 - Now Getting Insecure Startup Item Disabled

Updated Snow Leopard on the MBP last night. Now I'm getting an error message upon reboot "Insecure Startup Item Disabled /Library/StarupItems/Oracle"
I've tried using Onyx to verify and repair permissions. No luck. I also booted to the install disc, then ran disk utility to verify and repair permissions. No luck on reboot.
I have Oracle 10g installed as a separate user which is supposed to start automatically when the machine boots. I then run Oracle SQL Developer under my normal login to access the database. Because the database apparently doesn't start during that boot up, SQL Developer can establish a connection.
This worked fine up until the software update last night. How can I make that startup item secure?

Ha! Most of that's Greek to me, also. However, it's unrelated to the startup item I believe. The startup item is only used to initialize the Oracle system at startup - it runs a program or two. After that it's another story. The problem may be due to an incompatibility between the version of Oracle and the version of Snow Leopard. I would report this to Oracle. You can help them with the problem by providing copies of any console log entries related to Oracle as well as the specific error messages received.
It's quite possible that security changes with Snow Leopard is affecting Oracle in some way that is likely permissions related. That would be my guess.

  • I work with a Mac & I had to restore my computer for my time machine back-up.  When I attempt to open/edit a photo with either camera raw or photoshop I get the following error message: Error 150:30 , it also sys that licensing for the product has stopped

Unfortunately when Adobe products are restored from backup, especial CS4 and especially Mac, it breaks licensing.
There is a python script included in the license recovery kit that should work if you are familiar with Terminal.
If not, you must reinstall your CS4 suite.  You don't need to delete your preferences, so it should be the same as before.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
