Thx for that im gonna try it....but is there a way to do it without using toolbar or cmd-c...? i mean using only the mouse?why does it have to highlight the file even though i click a bit next to it....?using icon view i can right click next to the folder and i wont have a problem but with list view that i prefer using it will highlight the whole row.....and i dont find free space to right click cause i got many files

    I downloaded Yosemite OS X and when I try to select my HD (the disk) where I want to install it, the hard drive doesn't have enough space. I have a MacBook Pro bought in 2008. What can I do and still have all my files? I haven't backed up...

    Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
    You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
    You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
    Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
    I recommend that you also make a backup before proceeding. Just quit the installer.

  • When I create a New Folder (on the desktop or in Finder), the system uses the Generic Document Icon instead of the Generic Folder Icon. How can I change this back?

    When I create a New Folder (on the desktop or in Finder), the system uses the Generic Document Icon instead of the Generic Folder Icon. How can I change this back?
    All of a sudden I noticed that most of the folders on my computer were no longer using the folder icon, but the generic document icon. I had to manually change back the icon being used by opening Get Info for each folder and copying and pasting the generic folder icon from some folders that remained unchanged. Now whenever I create a New Folder (right click -> "New Folder"), the icon that shows up is the generic document icon (white page with top right corner turned down). And I have to manually change it so it shows up as a folder in Finder or on my desktop. I don't know why or how this switch happened. All of the folders now on my computer look ok, but I need to change the default so when I create a New Folder it uses the correct icon.
    I have also Forced Relaunch of my Finder and rebooted the system. I downloaded Candybar but am not sure what will fix anything, so I haven't proceeded.
    Anyone know how I can do this? Thanks.

  • Problems creating a new folder when using webmail

    Hi, has anyone else out there encountered problems when trying to create a new folder when using webmail ?
    It just seems to create a new folder called 'New Folder' and misses out the step that would normally allow you to rename it to a title of your choice.
    A whole list of folders called 'New Folder' is about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.
    It did used to work as I've used it many times in the past.....but then so did a lot of things before the 'new' and 'improved' version of BT Mail came along.
    Any help or suggestions gratefully received (apart from the obvious solution, switch to a mail client).
    Maybe it needs flagging to the 'techies'......they must be really busy trying to sort out all the so called teething problems.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    What should happen is that when you click on the + for add a new folder a box should appear, somewhere amongst the folder list. (The list is in alphabetical order so if you have a number of folders previous to the letter N it maybe out of view ) .
    The box will have the text " New folder-X," ( see below for the explantion for the -X ) you then delete the text, type in the name you want, hit enter and there it is.
    If you don't notice the box, possibly because it's off screen further down the list, you then open and close the list, or log out the next time you view the list it, or they, are simply named New folder.
    So you now have umpteen " New folders ", here's how to rename them.
    Place your cursor on the word New Folder in your folder list, you will see a little box appear with" New folder-X,"  x being the number of the new folders you have created., eg -0, -1, -2 etc.
    Then double click on it, you should then get a larger box with New folder-X.
    Delete the text in the box, type in the name you want for the new folder, hit enter there's you newly named folder.

  • HT2488 I imported pictures into iPhoto from my iPhone, when trying to find my pictures by clicking on iPhoto Library it is always empty. I had to create a new folder and copy the same exact pics in the new folder just to be able to access them.. help plea

    I imported photos into iPhoto from my iPhone, however i cannot access them. When clicking on iPhoto Library where they should be stored the folder is blank but if i open up iphoto from the dock menu they appear. I had to create a new folder just to access them. help please, because making a new folder takes up unnecessary space.

    There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    (Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
    You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
    For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
    Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
    For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
    b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

    Could you clarify for me: are you still using Photoshop Elements on your new Mac or are you now using the Revel Mac Desktop app?
    Thank you!

    Click on the words "Album by Artist/Year," one click at a time, and it will cycle through the possible options.
    One of them is juts plain "Album."

    No, dude, if this guy can use it, so can most of his other neighbors. Let's point out a few things:
    1. This is very poor security, not to mention irresponsible of the neighbor to open his wireless to every person and pervert in his neighborhood!
    2. This guy still has NO control over who's using is, so of course bandwidth will be affected
    3. Until the neighbor locks it down to just 2 people, of course it will be slow
    Let's start using our brains before we have the poor guy start deleting plists, getting the apple broadband utility, rebuilding his O/S, reinstalling the combo updates and/or repairing permissions (good one!) .... he simply has NO control over the speed of that which he's using/stealing.

  • How do i create a new folder in finder

    how do i create a newfolder in finder. whenever i click new folder it creates a new folder in whatever folder is highlighted. i need a new folder altogether.. also how do i give that folder a new icon

    The information below is in the Finder's Help menu. Your problem creating a new folder may be due to your not having the correct window activated.
    *Creating a folder*
    You can create folders to organize your files and applications.
    In a Finder window, open the location where you want to create the new folder.
    Choose File > New Folder.
    To give the folder a new name, select it, then click its current name. Type a name for the folder and press Return.
    If the New Folder command is dimmed, you do not have permission to create a folder inside the folder you opened.
    *Changing the icon of a file or folder*
    You can use custom icons for any file or folder in the Finder. You can create your own icons or download icons from websites on the Internet. Once you have custom images, you can replace icons for items.
    In the Finder, select a file whose icon you want to use.
    Choose File > Get Info.
    Click the icon in the Info window and choose Edit > Copy.
    Select the file whose icon you want to replace and choose File > Get Info.
    Select the icon in the Info window and choose Edit > Paste.

  • Creating a new folder in a SharePoint library using C# Windows Application.

    I have tried to create a folder within a SharePoint document library. The coding is as follows.
    Text Box Name: txtNewFolderName
    Button Name : btnCreateNewFolder
    private void btnCreateNewFolder_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    //String parameters for site URL and site name
    const string siteUrl = "http://thekingsbury/";
    const string siteName = "/SiteDirectory/thekingsbury/";
    //Freeze UI
    Cursor = Cursors.WaitCursor;
    btnCreateNewFolder.Enabled = false;
    //Use SPSite constructor to assign site collection based on top-level URL
    SPSite siteCollection = new SPSite(siteUrl);
    //Assign target site (SPWeb instance) based on site name
    SPWeb site = siteCollection.AllWebs[siteName];
    //Create an instance of SPDocumentLibrary based on the named doc library list
    SPDocumentLibrary docLibrary = (SPDocumentLibrary)site.Lists["Test Library"];
    //Create instance of SPFolderCollection and add a named folder based on forms input,
    //then update library to reflect added folder
    SPFolderCollection myFolders = site.Folders;
    myFolders.Add("http://thekingsbury/Test%20Library/" + txtNewFolderName.Text + "/");
    docLibrary.Update();
    //UI clean-up
    Cursor = Cursors.Default;
    btnCreateNewFolder.Enabled = true;
    Site URL :
    http://thekingsbury/
    Site Name: thekingsbury
    Document Library  : Test Library
    My problem is when I click the button it gives an error as the following.
    The Web application at http://thekingsbury/ could not be found.
    Verify that you have typed the URL correctly.
    If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application.
    The error shows at the following statement.
    "SPSite siteCollection = new SPSite(siteUrl);"
    I created both Windows & Web solutions and the result was the same.
    Note: I have add the reference to the SharePoint using the Microsoft.SharePoint.dll file. And used the "using Microsoft.SharePoint;" statement.
    Please can someone help me on this matter.It's a real paint to me.

    The complete solution using an InfoPath 2010 form is as the below.
    using Microsoft.Office.InfoPath;
    using System;
    using System.Xml;
    using System.Xml.XPath;
    using Microsoft.SharePoint;
    using Microsoft.SharePoint.Client;
    using Microsoft.SharePoint.Linq;
    namespace Create_Folder_In_SharePoint_Library
    public partial class FormCode
    public void InternalStartup()
    ((ButtonEvent)EventManager.ControlEvents["btnCreateFolder"]).Clicked += new ClickedEventHandler(btnCreateFolder_Clicked);
    public void btnCreateFolder_Clicked(object sender, ClickedEventArgs e)
    SPSite mySite = new SPSite("Http://thekingsbury/");
    SPWeb myWeb = mySite.OpenWeb();
    //Code to retreive the new library.
    XPathNavigator xLibraryName = MainDataSource.CreateNavigator();
    String NewLibraryName = xLibraryName.SelectSingleNode("/my:myFields/my:LibraryName", NamespaceManager).Value;
    //Code to retreive the library description.
    XPathNavigator xLibraryDesc = MainDataSource.CreateNavigator();
    String NewLibDesc = xLibraryDesc.SelectSingleNode("/my:myFields/my:LibraryDescription", NamespaceManager).Value;
    //Code to retreive the new folder name.
    XPathNavigator xFolderName = MainDataSource.CreateNavigator();
    String NewFolderName = xFolderName.SelectSingleNode("/my:myFields/my:FolderName", NamespaceManager).Value;
    //Creating the new library.
    myWeb.Lists.Add(NewLibraryName, NewLibDesc, SPListTemplateType.DocumentLibrary);
    myWeb.Update();
    //Creating the new folder within the new library.
    SPDocumentLibrary newDocLibrary = (SPDocumentLibrary)myWeb.Lists[NewLibraryName];
    SPFolderCollection newFolders = myWeb.Folders;
    newFolders.Add("http://thekingsbury/" + NewLibraryName + "/" + NewFolderName + "/");
    newDocLibrary.Update();
    I think everyone can use this.
     When you are generating a folder always try to avoid reserved characters  : ; # $ % ^ a and suchlike.

  • Slow loading when creating a new folder or deleting a folder or file

    Hello! Before we begin, a little information. This problem only started occurring AFTER I updated to Mavericks. I have been through every operating system since Snow Leopard and NEVER had this problem until Mavericks. It has been palguing me since I updated in October and I need some answers. Seeing as how I do not feel like paying $59 to ask apple for help in this matter I'm coming to the community. This is an odd problem where finder doesn't seem to want to load certain actions properly. In my case, creating a new folder, deleting a folder or file, and using the "always open with" function.
    In terms of creating a new folder, anywhere in finder, the folder will not appear immedlately, insetad it takes a staggering 5-10 seconds to appear where I created it. For deleting a folder or file, the same thing happens. It takes a huge amount of time to move the folder or file to the trash bin, UNLESS I open a different folder or file in the same directory after deleting said folder or file, in which case it moves right away. And the "always open with" checkbox just doesn't work at all.
    About my platform: Intel iMac (Late 2009) 3.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, 220 out of 499.75gb hard drive space. OS X version 10.9.2
    Thanks in advance for any help in these matters.
    You guys helped me solve the unchangeable background problem when apple couldn't, so I'm reaching out to you again for that awesome support I know you guys have in you

    Adobe contacted me and had me reset my prefereneces for flash using their steps. I have done that and a complete uninstall/re-install and searched for corrupted fonts and still I am having the same issue and adobe support appears to have just left me hanging.
    Is there anyone here who has experienced this same issue that can offer any assistance to solve this issue. As it stands right now I have a product I cannot even use and that is troublesome to say the least.
    Thanks for any help you can offer.

  • Column View creating a New Folder?

    In the Finder (Column View) it seems when you right click in ANY column to create a New Folder, the New Folder always gets created in the LAST column being viewed. In Leopard 10.5 you could create a New Folder in any column just by right clicking an empty space within that column. It seems this behavior does not work in Snow Leopard now. I have submitted feedback thru the website, however, does any one know how to get this functionality back in Snow Leopard's Finder?
    Thank You!

    AFAIK, there is no way to do that. Finder has been rewritten for Snow leopard and this is how it works now. I must say that the new way makes more sense to me than the old one.
    Thank You!

    Csound1 What Ive been trying to explain is that I have been running bootcamp, I open the app where the first screen is the introduction, i hit continue, the first time I select "download the latest windows support software fromm Apple" then I return and instead select "Install Windows 7." Then hit continue. The third screen is where I "Create a Partition for Windows" I set Windows to 80 gigs then hit INSTALL. As stated before Bootcamp cannot find the install drivers saying "The installer disc could not be found." My windows software is on a USB drive not a disc, I tried using a virtual disc reader to make it appear that the windows software was running on a disc, still no luck. What I would like to know is how to install windows on bootcamp.
