When my intel based desktop goes to sleep I have to shutdown to restart or turn power off and on to restart

After downloading OS X my desktop will not restart when clicking the mouse after it goes to sleep.  I have to either unplug and plug it back in or hold the power switch down until it shuts down completely and then restart.  Other then that, everything is fine.

I think I have resolved my problem by uninstalling my cell phone software : Sony Ericsson PC Companion 2.0  I found that this program was interfering with windows when I wanted to turn off my computer and stopped shut down.  It interfered more after two recent upgrades.  I don't think Sony Ericsson has very good programer, because the more they upgrade the program the more it conflicted with Windows 7 64 bit OS  I had this program on my system for a long time before the problem arose.  I uninstalled the program and noticed my system ran better.  It shut down without forcing any program to end.  Since there was such a dramatic change in how the system worked, I tried to reset my computer to go to sleep and not shut it down.  It works a designed and no longer loses power while sleeping.  I didn't think an installed program could affect this feature but apparently it can.

  • After iPhone goes sleep, can't connect to wifi unless I turn it off and on

I'm having an odd issue. I've had my iPhone for about 1 month after owning an iPod touch. Both my gf and I have purchased iPhones and hers does not have this problem.
When the phone hasn't been used for a while (ie in my pocket) once I try using it again, it won't connect to the wifi. If I go under settings, I see a checkmark next to the wifi, but the 3G icon does not change to the wifi icon. It basically does not want to connect, however if I turn off the wifi and back on , it instantly connects. This happens with any wifi connection (at home or at work)
The same thing occasionaly happens to the 3G, it says I'm connected to the 3G network, but I can't use the internet at all. At this point I have to reset/reboot the iPhone. Then it works
It's a common issue that seems to be both affecting the wifi and cell network.
I'm not sure whether the issue is hardware related, or software. I'm thinking of restoring the iPhone using iTunes, but I'm not sure if it will back up everything like the Cell network settings and everything.

iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone which is updated as the first step during the sync process. The backup includes iPhone settings including wi-fi network settings for each wi-fi network you have connected your iPhone with along with other data such as email account settings, contacts (which should be synced with a supported application on your computer), 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app, photos/video in your iPhone's camera roll (which should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera), SMS/MMS, notes, and your selections under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences. This is not a complete list.
When restoring your iPhone with iTunes, there are two options. From your iPhone's backup, which is the default selection, or as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup which must be manually selected. When selecting Restore, you will be prompted to update your iPhone's backup which you should do. Before doing so you should import any photos or videos in your iPhone's camera roll and sync your iPhone to update any data kept synchronized with a supported application on your computer such as contacts and calendar events.
If there is a problem with any of the data included with your iPhone's backup or a problem with the backup, restoring from your iPhone's backup will also restore the problem, but try this first. If no change, try restoring as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.
If no change after that, more than likely your iPhone has a hardware problem. You can call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

    2. Reset the system management controller (SMC) which can be done by the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    3. Remove the sleep image file by opening the Terminal utility and running the following command (copy and paste this entire line into the Terminal, and supply your password when prompted):
    sudo rm -f /var/vm/sleepimage

Macbook air Wi Fi and sound stops every time it goes to sleep. i have to  restart it every time to use wifi and sounds. this started happening just after the latest upgrade to OS X. any reasons why its doing that and how to fix it.

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reinstall OS X.

  • Updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and every time the MB goes to sleep I have to change my location to restore the internet connection. Any ideas why?

I have just updated to ML from Snow Leopard (to be able to use iCloud with my new iPhone 5) and after every time my 2009 MB 13" goes to sleep I have to change location in order to be able to navigate the internet. The connection is made but does not work on navigation. Changing locations enables navigation of the internet. I have three locations 'Automatic', 'Home' and 'Neufbox', my one-month-old ISP-supplied 'box' (router + VOIP telephone). I have never had such problems so I don't remember which location was the default although I am inclined to think it was 'Home'. The MB was delivered on Leopard and I updated to Snow Leopard with no problem. I didn't go to Lion. A friend recommended that I do this latest update because I couldn't synchronise the contacts and calendar from the MB to the iPhone and I hesitated after reading the many reports of inherent problems. I now have great regrets.

No, it doesn't store a clone. You would have needed to make one with either SuperDuper or CarbonCopy Cloner.
If the files were in your ~/Library folder then they may still be there. As I said, you can access it by
going to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library". I wouldn't think an upgrade would overwrite anything in ~/Library.
If you have a Time Machine backup you may also be able to use that to retrieve them.

Claire, please post your machine specs as requested. There are some variants of the MBP with specific hardware issues. Example: the older "silver key" MBPs with 2.2Ghz and faster processors can have a defective video chipset that produces a black screen or distorted video. That problem is covered under an Apple program that will fix this at no cost to you if you computer is that model.
Do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and, in the resulting window, click the "More Info..." button. That launches System Profiler for you. The first screen looks like this:
The second line, "Model Identifier" (or "Machine Model" if you are running OS10.4) precisely identifies your MBP variant. Post that, and include it in your equipment info in your profile for future posts. That means people don't have to ask, and you get faster help that is targeted to your specific model. Saves everybody a bunch of keystrokes and you get better advice.
