I did this with my ipod nano and it worked just fine. But with my wife's ipod nano, I can't find the music folder in her ipod when I open it up by double-clicking on "My computer". I can see a contacts folder and a couple of others ("calendar" as I recall" and something else), but no music folder that I can copy.
Any suggestions, anyone???

  • If I use my iPad to store my iTunes library, can I update my iPod through the iPad?  Or must I keep iTunes on a PC to serve as a hub for updating iPad and iPod?

Just got an iPad.  My plan was to store my iTunes library on iPad and update iPod through the iPad.  Can I do that, or must i keep the library on a PC to serve as hub for all updating?

  • Lost my ITunes Library, can I synch it from my nano Ipod?

    Hi,
I am not very tecchy, so have been struggling alot with this.
Originally tried to COPY over my WHOLE Itunes Library (including my old ripped CDs) to a USB flash drive., for security.  Which has sort of backfired.
ThoughI followed the instructions, my Itunes Library disappeared from my PC and my songs ended up in a different form on my USB stick, just a bunch of albums/songs, NO "ITUNES" FORMAT!  Is that normal - I wasn't expecting that?!  Can I get it back to my PC in original form?  I've tried to restore my PC to an earlier time but no luck there either.
I do have a Nano IPOD - is it easy to synch my music back with PC from that?  I've looked online at some rubbishy youtube videos, but it looks very complicated.
I do not want to lose all my old music that I have collected over 30 years.  Sometimes, I rue the day I ever started copying over my CDs to Itunes.
Any help would be gratefully received.  I have tried looking online but I find it too complicated.
Is it worth me ringing Apple support for help (my nano is out of warranty time though).
    Many thanks.
    Mary Ann.

I had to ring Apple in the end.  I find their stuff very complicated.  It took an hour to sort this out.  The woman I spoke to was great.  But what a palaver to just copy my Itunes account somewhere.

  • I have lost my itunes library after updating it and keep getting a message saying MSVCR80.dll is not installed when I try to uninstall/reinstall it???

I have lost my itunes library after updating it. Have tried uninstalling/reinstalling it and it gets so far then tells me that it cannot be installed because MSVCR80.dll is not installed on my pc. I have no idea what this is and have googled it, followed links to sites that say they can fix it, only for them to scan, tell me I have 3 thousand issues and then want me to pay $30 dollars to fix it for me. This message also appears on firing up my pc too.
    Can anyone help please?

I've been through the exact same thing and cannot seem to get an answer here. When you go to Manage Storage, does it have something at the top like "19.1 GB of 25 GB available"? I only have a Mail account with 5.3 GB in it and a Backups account with 553 MB in it. Obviously, these don't add up to 19.1 GB. There was no change in any of these numbers when I deleted all the same files you mention. With the free Mobile Me storage expiring next month, this is something I'm pretty concerned about.

I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup either locally or on the cloud. Much of the music is from old vinyl and podcasts which are no longer available.
How can I get the music that resides on my ipod nano (4th generation) back onto the new hard drive on my pc.
I have been reluctant to install iTunes on the new hard drive out of fear that I will lose all the contents on the ipod if I try to synch to the new hard drive.
    Help!

No backup is a huge mistake.

Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

    Hi, DickmoAZ.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This sounds like a permission issue most likely with the iTunes Media folder.  Here is an article that will help you troubleshoot this issue.

Have you failed to maintain a backup copy?
You should never update without making sure your backup copy of your computer is up to date.

I have the same problem. It is only with tv shows and only with programs I have downloaded after the software update.
Apple support sent me the above link too....but it doesn't solve the problem...my computer is authorized and the content is in my library and will play on my Mac air, but it will not sync the tv shows, it keeps saying my computer isn't authorized for it.
No answers here, but you are definitely not alone with this issue.

  • Lost my itune library and content on my window based laptop

I have lost my iTunes library (all songs, playlist, artist etc.) and do not have backup.  I have approx. 80% of my library on my iphone5 and ipod nano.  My laptop is window based operating system (window 7 professional).  My iphone was just updated to ios8.1.  Anyway to import my 18.2 GB of music back to my laptop?  Thanks

Thanks for your help. You were a big help and saved me hundred of hours in re-creating my itunes library of thousands of songs by downloading them again. I managed to get my purchases back using the instructions you provided and used the listing of software providers to download iRip and recover the rest of my music and playlists from both my iphone and ipod (I had different playlist on each).  I basically recovered 99% of what I had lost so that was a huge help.  Once you download iRip you really do use only one click to restore your iTunes library and playlists - super easy.  Thanks again.

Your i-device was not designed to be a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up. Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned below).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will probably have to use third party commercial software unless you have an older model iPod. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • I lost my iTunes library?

(Apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong forum.)
First off, I have a Macbook 6.1, version 10.6.8. and iTunes version 11.4 (18). Originally, I was attempting to put my iTunes library onto my external hard drive to save space on my computer. Here are the steps that I took:
1.) I made a copy of what I thought was my iTunes library. My iTunes library somehow is a "Previous iTunes Library" (which happened maybe 3 years ago, but I don't remember how), and in Finder there were multiple items called "iTunes Library (various dates)" so I picked the one that looked like the most current date. However, I have reason to believe I chose the wrong file, which I will explain later.
2.) After copying what I thought was my current iTunes library, I put it on my external hard drive. To make sure that the one stored on my external hard drive opened each time I used it, I held down alt/option when launching iTunes and clicked on the one I copied (I knew it was the copied one because I changed its name to  "iTunes Libraries Copy"). However, when I opened this copied iTunes, I realized it was the wrong one (a previous iTunes library with only about a third of my music).
So my current problem is that I can't locate where my current iTunes library is. It's got got to the point that I just confused myself so badly that I've just kept the old iTunes as the one that opens. If at all possible I would like to find the iTunes library that I had before this whole mess happened. I've tried opening all the files called "Previous iTunes Libraries" in Finder and none of them are the right ones somehow. Essentially, I lost the file of the iTunes library that I want, and I want to find it again.
Also, if this matters, I still have the iTunes library I want on my iPod touch (because I haven't synced it). Additionally, I had backed up my computer (including, I assume, the iTunes library I want?) using Time Machine, but I'm  fairly new to that and I'm not sure how to retrieve it. Whatever is the simplest method to get my iTunes library back would be great! I'm trying to free up space on my Macbook so I can purchase a Macbook Air and transfer all my stuff (minus the stuff that takes up way to much space, such as iTunes). I realize this is quite confusing, but I would appreciate any help I can get!

Well, put it this way, this is what you should have done: Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive. Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes. At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.

  • My computer crashed and I lost my itunes library ....

My computer crashed and the Tech people had to completely erase everything on my computer. I am reinstalling it all and I lost my itunes library. Does anyone know if there is a way that I can connect my ipod to the computer and not lose my library? I have about 2000 songs in total!!
    HELP ME!!
    Thanks!

Ipod syncing is not one way. You just have to know what to do...
I can see you use windows. Connect ipod to pc, but don't install or dont open itunes - dont alow itunes to sync automaticly). Then open explorer, enable hidden files, open your ipod (as you would any disc) open hidden file with strange names and copy all of them on your new hard drive. Then drag all this strange-named files in your itunes...woooo...now those strange names become your songs...it is magick
I you won't i can send you step by step guide...
    Take care.
