When syncing, iPhone 5C always asks to register

I'm trying to help a friend here. He's new to the Apple world but is now fully equipped--iMac, iPad 4 and iPhone 5C. Every time he hooks his phone up to his computer and tries to sync with iTunes, the system asks him to register his phone. What would cause this?

Itunes and Ipad on latest software iterations.
When syncing IPhones all perform faultlessly. When I try to sync. my IPad ITunes crashes halfway through the process.
For the last two weeks I have not been able to remove downloaded TV programmes via ITunes and have had to perform the removal via
<Settings>General>Usage>Manage storage. One audiobook is not visible on ITunes and cannot be deleted by any method I have tried.
I am storing all media on a WDCloud drive as I have over 1.3 TBytes of films, TV Programmes and audiobooks.
I have tried repairing both ITunes and Quicktime to no avail.

Thanks for the reply.
I noticed that the sync crashed at the point where it was downloading either Apps or Video (TV Progs). I tried a 'delete all media' reset yesterday. Problem still present and then I had no media or Apps other than some of the Apps as supplied on initial startup.
Today I tried a different USB to Lightning lead and at one point I thought it was working with Wi-Fi sync but whilst it didn't crash, the Icons of the Apps that were present on the IPad before the problem occurred are in the same place as before but greyed out and the Apps obviously have not been loaded.
Funnily enough I did a factory re-set just before you sent this so will post again if this works to help others. I believe this is going to be an IOS 8 problem like so many other IOS 8 problems I have found.

"Other" data is real data that you put on your phone by using the built in apps. It is not music, not videos, not pictures and not App Store app data. It is "OTHER" meaning everything that does not fall into these categories. Such as:
email messages and attachments
Reminders
Calendar entries
Contacts
Text messages
iMessages
MMS messages and attachments
Genius data
Music cover art
Music library database index (but not the music itself)
Operating system settings
Safari cache
bookmarks
Game Center status
Music catalog
You will find posts from people who said they recovered over 3 GB of space by just deleting old text messages.
If you want Other to be smaller you will have to keep less data on your phone; delete old MMS and texts, delete old email (especially from the "deleted" folder), clear the cache, eliminate cover art.
Sometimes "Other" includes data corruption. If you suspect this is a possibility try connecting to iTunes and click the Restore iPhone button. First restore from backup; the Other doesn't get any smaller you can Restore again and set up as New, then add your content back separately from your backup.

What's with sync error 1140 when syncing iphone?

This happened both with my iphone 4 and 4s when plugged via usb into my iMac. Is there a relationship to photo's? Error 1140 prevents syncing.

The following is done using iTunes:
Un-select sync | Apply.

When syncing iPhone with iTunes I get an iTunes stopped working and the network connection timed out message. I reinstalled iTunes and checked settings still no go.

When syncing iPhone to iMac, how do I make iMac the boss?

I sync my iPhone to my iMac via the dock/usb cable. I have a question specifically regarding the syncing of Podcasts.
I manange my Podcast inventory in iTunes on my iMac. Once I get everyting the way I want it, I sync my iPhone to my iMac.
The problem I'm having is that the Podcasts inventory on my iMac is not transfering acurately to my iPhone. i.e., additions on my iMac aren't being aded to my iPhone and deletions aren't deleted.
Basically, I want the iMac to be the 'boss' and I want the podcasts on my iPhone to match those on my iMac after syncing. How do I do that?

Agree but annoyed that the IPhone syncs just about everything automatically except photo in camera roll. I just use windows explorer to copy and paste the photo files to my PC subdirectory. IPhone does sync photos from a chosen pc subdirectory to your Iphone. Strange they go only one way when "syncing" to me means maintaining both devices with the same files. Oh well, maybe the next OS will do it.

"Merging data" error when syncing iPhone 5s Calendar to MacBook Pro Calendar, using Mountain Lion

Since a failed attempt to sync data via iCloud (resulting in duplicate entries in Calendar and Contacts, missing data, and other oddities), whenever I try to sync the Calendars via iTunes, I repeatedly get the error message, "iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone <name> because an error occurred while merging data." The Contacts sync fine, and the backup runs smoothly. The only discussions I can find in Apple Support are dated 2009 with older systems (I'm using Mountain Lion 10.8.5, iTunes 11.1.5, iOS 7.1.1, but the problem occurred with iOS 7.0 and possibly 6.0 as well). Repairing permissions had no effect. I can't use the option to copy the Mac Calendar to the iPhone because new data are entered into the iPhone. Would appreciate guidance. I'm trying to avoid iCloud but if I have to go there to fix this, guidance for that would also be welcome.

I have iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.4 and iMac with Mavericks 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2.1.
I also got this error when I tried to sync iPhone with iMac (after a year when Apple disabled local USB cabel sync in Mavericks - thanks Apple for re-enabling it!).
I tried a number of things to no avail. Finally I tried three things - and hurraaa, can sync now! Unfortunatelly I didn't test sync among these three steps - so don't know which one fixed it - up to you to try. My guess is that it was the 3rd step, actually
Step 1: On my iPhone I opened Calendar and tap "Calendars" (top left). I have 7 items on the list (2 email accounts, Calendar, Home, Work, Reminders, Birthdays). Most of the calendar entries were in my Home calendar, only a few were in Work or Birthdays. I moved all of them to Home. I also checked whether there aren't any items without content.
Step 2: On the list of Calendars I had one custom item (Birthday in my local language). This item had only one entry in it. I deleted both the single entry and the custom item as a whole - so I left the default categories only.
Step 3: At the top of the list of Calendars there is an item "All from My Mac". I tapped this and thus enabled all of my calendar categories. Now the sync worked like a charm!
I actually noticed that when I synced, iTunes automatically checked all items under "Sync Calendars - Selected Calendars". Even if I manually deselected all except the "Home" calendar, as soon as I started to sync, iTunes checked all items automatically. This led me to thinking that if I check "All from My Mac" item in my iPhone it might work.

ITunes crashes when syncing iPhone 5c

I have updated my windows 7 pc, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 12.1.1 and still it crashes when I try to sync my phone, but my iPad and iPod sync perfectly fine.
Help me!! lol

Since updating to iOS5, when syncing my wife's iPhone 4, many of her contacts are duplicated numerous times. She has Windows 7 and uses MS Outlook for contacts and calendar. Contacts in her Outlook file are not duplicated. I can manually delete the duplications, but the next sync repeats the duplications. How do I stop this madness?

I have the same problem. Using an iPhone 3G.
Events made on the iPhone multiply every time the iPhone is synced with the Macbook. Events made in iCal on the Macbook pro do not seem to double up when synced with the iPhone.
When creating events on the iPhone I usually set the events to repeat every day (until i complete the event and then I delete it)
Hope some one can offer some insight.

Error code when syncing iPhone

Elements 7 used to work just fine with my iPhone until about a week ago. iPhone upgraded it's software during this time.
Now when I try syncing iPhone, Adobe Photo Downloader opens, finds the iPhone, starts loading pics, then a window pops up with the following code:
Error Code c0000005
Address 7c910a19
Then Adobe shuts down without moving any of the pics.
It used to work fine, now nothing.
Apple insists that the problem is from Adobe's side as they have no record of that error code.
Anyone have an idea?

I followed the advice to remove email attachments, and tried some additional steps. Here's what I did:
First, I deleted any photos from the iPhone that were saved from email attachments. I then tried to download via APD. The same error came up as before and APD terminated itself.
Second, I deleted any photos saved from any other source (web pages, etc), as well as any photos that had been created by iPhone photo editing apps. The only photos left on my iPhone were those taken specifically with the iPhone camera and not altered by any other app. I then tried to download via APD again. Again, I got an error and APD terminated itself.
Third, I tried removing all vidoes from the iPhone. Again, I got an error in APD and it terminated itself.
Fourth, I deleted all remaining photos from my iPhone, leaving the Camera Roll on the iPhone completely empty. I then took a new photo with the iPhone and tried to use APD to download it into PSE Organizer. It worked fine. No error.
Fifth, I attached a photo from another source to an email and sent it to my iPhone. I received the email on my iPhone and saved the attached photo to my iPhone's Camera Roll. I then used APD and was able to download both photos (the one taken with the iPhone and the emailed attachment) into PSE. Apparently, being a saved email attachment is not, on its own, enough to cause an error in APD.
Conclusion: I can, for the time being, use APD to get photos from my iPhone into Elements. It seems APD didn't like something about one or more of the photos previously on my iPhone. Only time will tell if this issue could come up again.
I hope this helps some of you who have the same problem, since official PSE support is so lacking.
