When trying to manually manage my music and videos on itunes its telling me that im already signed up to one itunes library and if i apply these setings it will replace my current itunes library. is this safe and would i be able too retrieve my deleted mu

when trying to manually manage my music and videos on itunes its telling me i am already connected to another itunes library and that if i apply these settings it will delete all of my data and replace it with the current itunes library. will this just delete from the i tunes library or from my i tunes account all together?

Thanks for your reply. I don't keep all of my music in the iTunes' designated music folder. I don't like the way iTunes reorganizes my songs and I keep all my music in my own self organized music folders as I don't use iTunes as my primary media application. Not to mention allot of my files come from all different corners of my computer's hard drive. It would literally take months to go through over 20 gigs of media files to pick out the songs I have in my iPhone library to rebuild an iTunes library. Like i said, I don't even use iTunes other than to transfer files to my iPhone. I thought the purpose of manually managing the files was so you don't have to sync it with the iTunes library but now it won't give my that option without requiring me to delete everything on my phone I worked so hard on.
What I don't understand is logically or technically why iTunes HAS to delete all the content off of my iphone. Who's decision in the Apple's software engineering department was to require the one's iPhone to be erased if someone loses their iTunes library? Its frustrating because it makes no sense and I feel as if the software is punishing me for reasons I don't understand by threatening to delete all my content off my phone. Is there absolutely no way to transfer my music to my iPhone without deleting everything currently on and completely rebuilding my music library from scratch?

  • Error 13019 iPod nano 6th gen. I manually manage my music and I have tried literally everything.

Ok Apple people, you better give me some customer service.
I am getting this error message whenever my iPod needs to sync after i try to click/drag to add songs or delete something. I see the songs I'm trying to add in the "Music" section of my device on iTunes, but they are not on the actual iPod. I have reset my iPod, restarted my computer, waited a few days, downloaded the new version of iTunes, uninstalled and redownloaded it, tried using another computer account, and i really, really do not want to have to restore it because that is just dumb and i'm sure there's some other way to fix it. I have never had voiceover activated, and i don't automatically sync it. I have windows 7, if that helps.
Seriously Apple? What happened to user friendly? NOTHING is working. I have usually been able to fix iTunes problems in the past by myself and I'm pretty knowledgeable about it. But this has got me at the end of my rope, so help me. Now.

Ok update, I tried my sister's iPod touch 4th gen and it syncs perfectly. I guess I'll just have to restore.

  • HT1351 I manage my music and playlists on my iphone so when I plug my phone into itunes on the computer, I'd like my phone version to change my itunes version. Is this possible or is it always the computer version changing the phone version?

I manage my music and playlists on my iphone 5 and when I plug my phone into itunes on the computer, I'd like my phone's version to update my computer's version.  Is this kind of sync possible?

The sync is from computer to iphone.

  • Itunes wants me to sync my iphone even though I tried to select manual manage my music

So my computer died right before I got an iphone. My apple ID is set up with my old computer, so all the music I've downloaded have been added to my phone. I'm now sharing my boyfriend's computer, but when I went to add music to my phone is wouldn't allow me. I tried to select manually manage, but to apply it I have to sync my phone with the current library (which it the opposite thing I want when I click manually manage). I looked into it and syncing my phone will delete all the content not backed up on icloud. Is there another way to add music on my phone without deleting everything on it? I dont have any music from my old computer on my phone because my computer died before I could, all my music is from the cloud. Is there a way around syncing? I dont want my boyfriends music on my phone.

Try to disable autosync and backup manually by right clicking on your phone in the device list in itunes.

  • Bought a new macbook and want to manually manage music onto my iphone 4s but when i click 'manually manage' and then 'apply' i get the message saying it will erase everything already on there. Need help please!

Bought a new macbook and want to manually manage music onto my iphone 4s (as it is already full of music from old windows laptop) but when i click 'manually manage' and then 'apply' i get the message saying it will erase everything already on there. Need help please!

Before you sync your iPhone make sure that all the music that was synced to your phonereviously has been copied to your iTunes on the new MacBook Pro. Then when you connect your phone you will be able to either sync all music or select only those playlists that you want on the phone.

  • When I tried to sync my 4G iphone factory unlocked to iTunes I got this message "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?"  Should I hit "Download and Update"? or "Learn More" ?

When I tried to sync my 4G iphone factory unlocked to iTunes I got this message "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?"  Should I hit "Download and Update"? or "Learn More" ?

I have a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS (eg: purchased from Apple).  I received the same message at some point and eventually (after reading a bit more) accepted "Download and Update".  No problem.  No apparent bad effects. It just seems to update things specific to the carrier (Bell Mobility in my case).

  • I selected manually manage music for my iTouch yet it keeps trying to sync to my entire music library.  I do not want that as it is taking up too much space.  How can I stop my iTouch from continuing to try and sync so I can manually manage my music?

How do I get my iTouch to manually manage my music?  I selected manually manage, yet every time I hook my iTouch to my computer, it attempts to sync and load my entire library.  I do not want the entire library as it takes up too much space and I don't want all of those songs on my iTouch.  What am I missing?  What else can I do?

Oops, sorry, I think you probably already did what I suggested (turning off auto synch).
I have the same question - how to synch, say, just one playlist.
There is an option to synch only things that are checked. But everything (in every playlist and item, is checked and there doesn't appear to be a box to "uncheck all", nor can you check each playlist individually.

  • HT1535 What all gets erased when you choose to manually manage your music?

I got a new laptop not long ago and I currently have the newest version of iTunes installed on it. I also just got the iPhone 5 so I wanted to put more (new) music on it that did not upload with iCloud. Except I want to manually manage my music as opposed to automatically syncing. When I choose the option to manually manage, it says that everything will be erased from my iPhone. Can someone just clarify what exactly will be erased, is it just my music and apps or is it basically everything on my phone as if its gettign restored to its factory settings?
    Thanks

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unlike most of Apple's iPod devices, the iPhone is resticted to holding content from a single library, even when manually managing that content. If a particular file isn't in the local iTunes library when you update the device (e.g. add or remove a single track) it will be deleted. This makes any potential benefit of manual management pointless. Since this restiction is imposed by iTunes you may prefer to look at 3rd party tools to manage media content on your iPhone. Alternatively stick your library on an extenal drive so that you can manage it from any computer avaiable to you.

No. I have quite a few more 16,000, so I don't manually manage. Making playlists for each device makes things much easier to organize. You can create regular lists of essential tracks and smart playlists to automatically catch new content, top rated, most played etc. If you'd done it this way all along configuring a new or restored device would be the work of moments.

  • My itunes library has duplicated all of my music and would take me hours to delete one by one. What is a quick easy way to delete over 2,500 duplicates?

My itunes library has duplicated all of my music and would take me hours to delete one by one. What is a quick easy way to delete over 2,500 duplicates?

Apple's official advice is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping, whether you do so by hand or using my script, in case something goes wrong.

  • When trying to burn a playlist to a blank CD, iTunes 10.3.1 won't recognize the blank CD I've inserted (Verbatim CD-R). I've burned using these CDs before, this is a recent problem. Not the burner, as I can burn using Toast. iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.8

What kind of CD are you burning (Audio or MP3)?
If you're burning an MP3 CD, the songs must already
    be in mp3 format.
If not, iTunes will tell you that you have no songs
    in the playlist.

I was making an audio cd. But I have since found out what the problem was. The files in my PLAYLIST I converted to aiff, since they were SDll files (I thought they were similar to AIFF, and they PLAY on Itunes...just won't burn.) When I selected the songs in the playlist and converted them...I thought all those files were converted, They were not. The converted files went into my LIBRARY, even tho I selected the ones in the playlist...and once I exchanged the SDll versions of the songs in my playlist. THEN they burned fine...but still...it's confusing..you say convert..it says it's been converted..and what they don't say is it's not been converted inside the playlist...where I had selected the songs...It just ADDED aiff versions..but only in the library...Anyway, that's what happened. But it's strange that it PLAYS SDll but won't burn them....and you'd think, logically..the ones you selected would change...but they don't. Playlists are mainly pointers to the actual files I guess...a sort of Alias..
At least it works now. But it's sad that the latest itunes does more, but also does LESS...as I used to be able to burn SDll files. Now I'll have to convert all my files to AIFF, and mp3's as I assume my ipod video won't play anything but mp3's?

  • TS1717 i was wonering why is it when i restord my iphone5 from my laptop now when i try to play my music and movie a blog pops up saying (the requested URL was not found on this server)?

I was wondering why when i restored my iphoe5 from my laptop now when I try to play my music and movies a blog pops up saying (the requested URL was not found on this server)?

The problem resolved itself when I resynced the iPod with my computer. I suspect the error displayed when I tried syncing with my laptop and canceled out of it.
