When trying to open pdf from Inbox, it opens Adobe Reader X instead of my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro?

It seems my Windows Vista pc did an update on Adobe.  Now when I open a pdf i receive via email, it automatically opens a
program called Adobe Reader X instead of my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.  How do I force my system to open Pro instead of X?  I want to make edits and stuff to the pdfs, but X doesn't have the capabilities as Pro.  I'm thinking X is a Reader version?
Using Vista, i cannot find the option in Files to force all PDFs to be opened with Pro.
Help!

This is from the Windows Vista help menu:
If you double-click a file in Windows and it opens in the wrong software program, follow these steps to choose the program you would prefer that file use. You can change this setting for an individual file, or you can tell Windows to open all files of that same type in the software program you choose.
Open the folder that contains the file you want to change.
Right-click the file that you want to change, and then, depending on the type of file, either click Open With or point to Open With and then click Choose Default Program.
Click the program that you want to use to open this file.
Do one of the following:
If you want all files of that type to open in the same software program, select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box, and then click OK.
If you want only that file to open in the software program this one time, clear the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box, and then click OK.

  • Problems when trying to make pdf from ps using distiller

    Hi,
I'm using Adobe Design Standard CS4 and I'm trying to make a PDF from Indesign, using Distiller. I made a ps and when I opened it in Distiller the pages were cut, as if the sizes were smaller than those set in Indesign. But I did modify in jobs the dimensions so that they would be the same as those from Indesign. I thought at first that maybe the ps was badly made, but when opened in Photoshop it displayed the same sizes as those in Indesign. Any suggestions?

Bob's answer will certainly work, and those are usually fine settings, but you may want to know more about the what and why of export settings.
Conversion is handled in the dialog in the output panel under, of all places, the "Color Conversion" field. You have three choices: No conversion (self explanatory, and if you've got everything in the correct space to start with a good choice), and two flavors of "Convert to destination," Preserve Numbers and Preserve Appearance, which have subtle, but major, differences. The target profile is selected in the next field below.
In the case of either one, anything RGB will get converted to CMYK if you pick a CMYK target profile (and vice versa if you pick a RGB profile). The difference is in what happens to objects that are already using the color model, but not the specific profile, of the destination.
When you preserve numbers a CMYK object in ISO coated with values of 25,38,40,10 can be converted to SWOP with the same numbers. You can expect slight shifts in color appearance this way (of course, there are also MANY RGB colors that can't be reproduced using CMYK inks at all, so you'll pretty much always get some shifting in RGB to CMYK conversions).
When you preserve appearance the numbers used to represent the colors are altered so the output looks the same on both devices.
You might think this is superior, but there is a glitch. What happens to solid black (100% K only)? If you've set type in InDesign you probably colored it with the [Black] swatch. If you pick preserve numbers, you type stays 100% K and will continue to overprint, and your pressman will be happy. If you pick preserve appearance, one of two things will happen: If the document working profile is the same as the target profile, there will be no change and everyone is happy. If the profile is different, your simple black type will become a four-color mix that has the same visual appearance (when in perfect register) in the target space, and now it no longer overprints and is separated onto 4 plates, and your pressman is cursing you.
This will happen with anything that is just a single process ink, but generally speaking this isn't an issue for the other three colors if you are printing them anyway. It might be a problem for one-color hairlines or small type, though, so you should at least be aware of the potential.
So, the bottom line is you should assign the correct output profile as the CMYK working space in your document, if you know it in advance. If not, make your best guess and consider re-assigning the working space before exporting to PDF if you guess wrong. Any conversion from one profile to another is going to have some sort of consequences and it's up to you to choose the best answer based on the particular circumstances of your file.

  • Getting error when trying to create pdf from Word

How do I resolve this problem. When I try to creat a PDF from a Word file, I get an error saying that "pdfmaker is missing files"?

Start by opening word and printing the file to the Adobe PDF printer. Other than that, there is a lot of info missing in your post that is needed to answer. What version of WORD (32 or 64 bit), OS (32 or 64 bit), and version of Acrobat. It is likely that you have a combination that is not compatible for PDF maker. If so, your only choice will be the printer route.

  • Opening PDF from website only opens in browser, want it to open in Acrobat Client

So after this most recent update 11.0.03 we have this is issue where the PDF will not open in the Acrobat client.  I found the adobe article where it tells you to disable the IE plugins and that should force it to open in the client but that is not working...
I've tried repairing Acrobat then trying again.  Same issue.  If I have the IE plugins enabled it opens fine in Internet Explorer 10 but just refuses to open in the actual client unless I download a copy and open it locally.
What I need is for when someone goes to open a pdf from a website I need it to open in the actual Acrobat Pro client...

Acrobat is opening PDFs in the browsers, IE11, Chrome and Firefox. I am using Foxit now so it doesn't matter. I can also open many pdf files in Foxit and have tabs. Acrobat opens a new acrobat window for every file, this is not acceptable to me.

  • Acrobat reader XI cannot open pdfs from IE9

My pc has IE9, windows 7.  After I installed Acrobat reader XI, I can no longer open pdfs from a secure website.  Can anyone help?

"Internal Error Occurred" appears when .pdf is opened from Outlook 2010 email
I am absolutely pulling out my hair over this one!!
    PC/Win 7 64bit/Adobe XI/Office 2010
I have tried Uninstalling and re-installing
I have tried using an adobe software removal tool
I have tried modifying the security settings in reader
I've tried running repair on MS Office
If you open the .pdf from an email directly, it opens Reader with the error "Internal Error Occurred"
If you drag and drop the .pdf onto the desktop, and then open it, it opens.
If you open Adobe Reader FIRST, then open the .pdf from the email, it opens fine.
ONLY when you open a .pdf from an email with Adobe Reader closed (so Outlook is asking AR to open first, and then present the .pdf) is it behaving this way.
Hypothesis: Outlook 2010 does not like to open Adobe Reader.
SO....tell me all of you brilliant geniuses? How do I solve this puzzle and become an end user's hero?

  • Why is there suddenly an error message when trying to download pdf documents online: "cannot export document"

Why am I recently receiving an error message when trying to download pdf documents from the web? The message reads: "cannot export document" I've updated Adobe and all software updates are current. The first indication of a problem was when I opened a pdf that I thought downloaded, but the file is blank. Now that doesn't even happen. Any help would be tremendously appreciated! Thank you, KB

I know man what your saying. I should have written it down when it happened last night. I figured if anyone had had the same issue they might know the reason. I'll try doing a test recording today and see if the same issue arises. Meanwhile, if anyone has this happen to them please let me know. Thanks

  • Safari hijacked by Adobe Reader - cant open pdfs from Safari

I would greatly appreciate any help cant seem to find this exact problem elsewhere.
I have a Macpro (new tower) running  10.9.4
A few days ago I received an email from a trusted friend which included a link. I followed the link which asked me to download Adobe Reader which i foolishly did. Since then when I try to open a PDF from Safari I get the following message "Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User Licence Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser"
Please note I can still open PDFs from the Finder and other browser's (e.g. Opera) also allow me to download
I went to the Adobe site and downloaded Reader but it wont let me complete the installation. I fear my Mac has been infected by a trojan etc and can't seem to find out how to get around this.
    So far I have tried
    1) went to /Library/Internet Plug-ins - but nothing there
    2) reinstall of Mavericks
Any help appreciated. I suppose a clean reinstall would help but don't want to do that just yet

    Open a Finder Window.
Click on the Go in the menu bar.
Press on option on the keyboard, "Library" will appear. Click on that.
In the new Finder Window that it opens up, or the one that you have opened already. It'll show that particular folder. In that folder is Internet Plug-ins.
Check to see if Adobe is in there. If so, delete it and reboot.
I honestly thought it was in the same folder that you tried, but I don't remember at the moment. So my instructions are just a shot in the dark.

  • Opening PDFs from gMail account in iBooks

I've previously opened PDFs from gMail messages using iBooks but today, for some unknown reason, I cannot open any new PDF file attachment larger than 200k.
iPod Touch 8GB (2nd generation) using iOS4.1- Still have 5.7GB available so I'm not sure why certain size files won't open.
I've even tried using Safari w/ gMail account - In both cases, as soon as I try to open the PDF attachments w/ iBooks, the display drops out without transferring to Ibooks as it used to do.
    Message was edited by: MacNoob0909

    Tried resetting - No joy.
When I tried to open the attachment w/ "iBooks", the iPod switched to iBooks and an "Untitled" file showed on the bookshelf momentarily then the display dropped out and returned to the "Home" screen. No joy there.
Even tried opening w/ "Quick Look" - Again, no joy. Just a dropout and back to the "Home" screen.
Looks like I may have to do a total reset - Now iBooks loads w/ "Untitled" file displaying and then the display drops w/ a return to the home screen - In the process of total reset as I write this - Will update after I do a restore. - Its going to take at least 2 hours for reset/restore operation.

  • Unable to open pdf from some particular shared folder which is not in domain

    Encountered a strange issue here.
We have copuple of users who login with Citrix session.
They are able to open pdf from all the shared folders but not one which is not in domain.
User are able to open all other files viz. doc, excel, notepad and so from that particular folder.
Issue with all the pdf files and not only one particular file.
Double clicking the pdf file starts the process AcroRd32.exe but the file does not open.
If an already running AcroRd32.exe process is there (means if Adobe Reader is already open), then it's possible to open the pdf files from that folder.
Moreover, came across one strange thing.
I created a shortcut to one of the pdf file from that folder within the same folder.
And it was possible to open pdf file from that shortcut but not directly :S
Gives error: "Acrobat failed to connect DDE server" after about 20 mins if we try to open file directly.
Googled a bit and found that issue can be resolved by navigating to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\acrobat\shell\open\ddeexec\application and changing the Key "AcroviewA10"  to  "AcroviewR10
But when I navigated to the mentioned registry there was no AcroviewA10 but instead it was just Acroview.
    Adobe Reader version: 9.5.5
I will be really grateful if somebody can provide solution for this.

What happens when you open the Adobe app, then tell it to open the file?
How big are the attachments?  There are limitations to the size allowed to be sent:
    Email Provider
    Size Limit
    Gmail
    25Mb
    Outlook
    20Mb
    Yahoo
    25Mb
Are you sending the files to yourself?  Not sure how you are emailing files from a website...
Are the PDF's password-protected, or some kind of copyrighted eBook perhaps?  Can you email other files successfully, or are PDF's the only files that don't work?
Perhaps using a free Cloud service as an intermediary might work better.

  • When i print a pdf from preview it prints strange characters - it looks fine on screen

when i print a pdf from preview it prints strange characters - it looks fine on screen

You can also try opening the PDF with preview, then doing a copy and paste to TextEdit and printing from there.
Adobe makes it easier, but you do have software to accomplish this.
Only download Adobe reader from this site, to avoid "fakes/spoofs/malware" that will cause damage to your machine.

  • Error message when trying to delete pdf in 10.1

With 10.0.03 everything in Acrobat worked fine. In 10.1 I get an error when trying to delete pdf files I've recently worked on. The message says:
"Are you sure you want to move this file to the Recycle Bin? Then "file name".pdf, Type: Adobe Acrobat Document, Size: 153 KB, Date modified: 6/18/2011 3:28 PM.
    Other times the message is:
"The action can not be completed because the file is open in Acrobat.exe. Choose file again. Then "file name".pdf, Type: Adobe Acrobat Document, Size: 153 KB, Date modified: 6/18/2011 3:28 PM. Try Again"
This happens everytime I try to either delete the file using a menu to delete or drag the file to the Recycle Bin by hand.
Only way to get out of the loop is to log out then log in. This only started happening after updating to 10.1.
Anyone else see this problem and know how to fix it?

Just a suggestion but I have found on WIn 7 that showing a pdf in the
Preview view can make win think the file is open and locked for editing. The
little icon on the taskbar makes it easier to turn the preview on and off. I
always check my open explorer windows now when I get messages like that and
it usually clears it up. Hope it works foryou.

  • When I create a PDF from Excel, there are blank cells in Excel document, when they convert to PDF the blank cells have data in them?

There are cells in the excel document that have formula's in them.  The formulas are pulling data from other blank cells, so that is why they are blank in the formulated cells.  So in Excel, they are just a dash.  When I create the PDF, the document gets opened in Acrobat and the once blank cells have data in them.  Not sure why there is data in those fields on the PDF if its blank on Excel.

Not really sure that I fixed the problem, but I did find a work around and wanted to post it if someone else runs across the same issue. Apparently the document creator used lots of custom rules and shading. If I pulled up the custom rules and shading palette and just unchecked both the custom ruling and shading boxes, it allowed me to create the print file correctly--the disappearing part numbers were on the new PDF. I didn't have to update the whole book which I didn't want to do because I feared it would mess up the rules and shading. Just unchecking the box before creating the PDF solved that issue for my purposes.
