When trying to update apps the phone tries to sign in under my wife's email address, how do I change it???

After updating when I try to update apps, my wifes email show's up instead of mine. How do I change it back to mine???

Did you go to Settings/iTunes and AppStore/Apple ID and make sure that your Apple ID is listed?
If not, sign out with the shown ID, restart the phone and sign in with your AppleID after that.

That is the problem. You are supposed to use your own Apple ID. If the person who owns the ID is not a user of your computer and will install the apps with the ID on the computer for you, you need to buy the apps with your own Apple ID and install them instead of the versions that you do not own.

You need to delete and redownload them to do that. This may require repurchasing paid ones.

I have a 4 year old macbook and a new ipad mini. I share the same apple ID with my daughter who has an iphone 4. Recently I changed the apple id last week to my new email address. The cloud has my old apple ID ( email address), how can I change that cloud ID to a 3rd email address? I do not want to share that cloud ID with my dughter, I want us to have our own IDs.

First save any photo stream photos that you want to keep on your device by opening the photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll. If you are syncing Notes with iCloud, email them to yourself as you will have to recreate these after changing accounts. Finally, if you are syncing any iWork documents with iCloud go to the settings for these apps and turn iCloud sycing to Off.
Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iPad when prompted. (This will only delete the account from your device, not from iCloud. If your daughter is keeping the existing account her devices will not be effected by this.) Then sign back in with your new ID to create a new iCloud account, turn on your iCloud data syncing, choose Merge when prompted to upload the data to the new account. Then recreate any Notes from the emails sent earlier and turn on iCloud syncing with iWork again, if appropriate.

When I go into settings on my ipad the email address is correct, it's just itunes thats causing a problem. Is it a different account e.g. did you update your account with a new email address or did you create a new account ? If you updated your existing account then try logging out of the account by tapping on the id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app and then log back in and see if the updated id then shows in the Purchased tab.
If you created a new account then all apps (and any other content) downloaded by the old account will remain tied to the old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps (and/or redownload its purchases). If you can't remember its password, and can't get the security questions reset (you don't have a rescue email address on the account ?), then you have need to contact Support in your country to get the questions and password reset.

Welcome to the Apple Community mwarbster.
Firstly, you need to change your details with Apple, Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account. You may have already done this.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)

The HT1541 page that you posted from has instructions for how to resend a gifts from your iTunes account - assuming that the address that you originally sent it to doesn't exist and it hasn't been redeemed.

You cannot, all content is tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them.
Content from one Apple ID cannot be merged or transferred to another Apple ID.
You need to recover your Apple ID for updates.

Trying to update app but asking me to sign in to another unknown account ID

Hi,
I have the app store icon in my dock indicating that an app has an update. I click the app in the the update section and another window appears telling me I have updates for other accounts and that I need to sign into that accound to update applications for that account. The email address for that account is unknown to me. I am not aware of anyone having hacked my account, but it is in the back of my mind naturally that this has occurred. I have changed password on my account so far. I cannot delete the update from the app store even though I have deleted the iphone app from my itunes list. Any thoughts.
