Whenever I go to iTunes with my iPod 5th generation 32 gb iPod Touch, running iOS 8.0.2, It tells me that the "Other" category is using up 14.59 gb of data. I have no clue why it says this and I have searched the internet for fixes and none worked. I have tried on a windows and a mac and noticed no change. I have tried restoring to a backup but that didn't help. I haven't had time to do a full restore but I will try if the problem persists.

An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.
What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
What is "Other" and What Can I Do About It?
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • My Ipod 5th generation won't update to ios 8 and I don't have a computer so I can't update through itunes help?

Please help me ios 8 won't download I go download it and it reboots but t is still ios 7

Try the following. You will likely need to a computer with Itunes and an internet connection.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes does not recognize 5th Generation video iPod in WinXp

PROBLEM: 5G iPod not recognized in iTunes (shows as removable hard drive in My Computer) via USB on HP Pavilion Notebook running WinXP. Latest error states insufficient power to run hi speed USB device on this computer. HP support replies that installed USB should comply to 480 Mbps hi speed standard. Trying to connect iPod via firewire results in "iPod can not be connected with firewire" error. Have tried the following steps before reaching this point:
Description of iPod: 5G, 30 gig video iPod model MA002LL contains 1.2 gig data (282 songs, 4 videos, 0 pictures)
Action: 5G iPod worked fine until connected to download purchased music 3 weeks ago.
Result: iPod screen shows "Do not disconnect" iTunes does not recognize iPod.
Action: Reset iPod (iPod works fine when not connected to any computer).
    Result: same as above
Action: Recharged iPod overnight with wall outlet to confirm full charge.
    Result: same as above
Action: Tried to run iPod Updater but iPod was not recognized by Updater (it does recognize iPod Mini and 4G)
    Result: same as above
Action: Reinstalled latest version of iTunes.
    Result: same as above
Action: Reinstalled COM interface for IPod Service several times.
    Result: same as above
Action: Ran repair maintenance on iTunes (repair successful).
    Result: same as above
Action: Uninstalled iTunes and iPod software, deleted their folders and bin files and cleaned out Temp directory, disabled virus protection and disconnected from network. Ran Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. (Uninstall successful)
    Result: same as above
Action: Restarted and reinstalled iTunes and iPod Updater
    Result: same as above
Action: Diasabled all non critical items in start menu
    Result: same as above
Action: Uninstalled all three USB controllers
    Result: same as above
    Action: Reinstalled USBs
    Result: same as above
Action: Tried to connect by firewire
Result: Error this device cannot be connected by IEEEE use USB cable.
Action: Talked to HP support to confirm USB standards on Pavilion Notebook.
Result: USB should read all 3 standard data speeds up to hi speed 480 MBps
Action: Tried 5G iPod on 2 other PC desktops with WinXP with powered USB 2.0 ports
Result: iPod shows "Do not disconnect" iTunes does not recognize iPod and both computers respond with the following error (which is not received on the notebook) "insufficient power to run hi speed USB device on this computer" both Desktops are older than the Notebook and have older versions of USB 2.0.
Action: Tried it on my iMac G4 thinking I could reformat it. Mac understandably does not read it as a drive. I tried the following three connections:
    1) Firewire connection: iPod screen shows: firewire connection is not supported; 2) Powered USB port connection: drive is not recognized by Mac and iPod screen shows do not disconnect; 3) Unpowered USB port connection returns an error of "USB Low power notice" on Mac monitor and iPod screen shows menu but won't connect to Mac.
    QUESTIONS:
Has the 5G iPod reached a point where it now pulls too much power to be read by USB? Is HP not giving me correct specs regarding the performance of the Notebook's USB? Why can I update my iPods with firewire on my Mac but not the PC? Any suggestions regarding what I should try next?
    Thanks.
HP Pavilion dv notebook Windows XP

Solution was found: HP was encountering a conflict with a trial version of Symantec Security Center and Norton Anti-Virus causing an incomplete install of iTunes.
The following actions resolved the problem. Uninstalled both Symantec applications, uninstalled QuickTime 6*, installed QuickTime 7.1.3 (iTunes would not install successfully prior to this step, seems redundant but worked), installed iTunes 7.1 (with Quicktime 7.1.3 again), connected iPod 5G which was finally recognized, received error that iPod was currupted, restored iPod and is now working fine.
I hope that this helps someone else with similar video iPod problems.

  • IPod 5th Generation not charging properly after IOS 8 update...

    Hello,
I was wondering if anybody has had this problem since the update or even with out the update.
Ever since I updated my IPod to the new IOS 8 I have had trouble charging it. I would plug in the lightning cable and it would show that it is charging with the little symbol but it seems to lose charge while it is plugged in instead of actually charging, even though it says it is. It's also taking a lot longer to charge now that it is doing this and I was just wondering if anyone else might be having this problem or knows how to fix it.
    Thank you,
    Miranda.

    No problems here.
Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has not been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • My iPod 5th Generation is not powering on

I need your help everyone. My iPod 5thGen is not working. What happened was battery was at around 20% and since I was playing, I decided to charge it. I connected it to the wall outlet but it wasn't doing anything, So I decided to remove the cable and pushed through playing letting the battery drained, And so it did, I connected it again but still no response. I've done the typical reset (holding the power and home button at the same time) but nothing happens. It just happened I think within the day I updated the software, just before christmas of 2014.
I wanted to have a local Apple store to check it however I'm afraid of how much would it cost. My dad just bought it in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last first week of September of 2014 and came home to Philippines same month and gave it to me. It is, I guess, the latest Ipod 5th Generation because it has Facetime already. He bought it from Jarir Bookstore in Riyadh. I think its still under warranty but how do I prove it to Apple if I don't have its warranty with me?

  • I bought an apple iPod 5th generation the other day and I cannot remember the unlock passcode. I have done the restore thing, but because I never set it up or synced it with iTunes, it does not recognize my device. It is disabled for one hour. Please help

I bought an apple iPod 5th generation the other day and I cannot remember the unlock passcode. I have done the restore thing, but because I never set it up or synced it with iTunes, it does not recognize my device. It is disabled for one hour. There's only a few things that could be my passcode, but because it disables for an hour, it is time consuming trying to figure it out. What do I do? I do not care about having to erase everything since it's new and there's nothing on it, but it was never synced with iTunes.

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • I have purchased a new computer and authorized my iTunes with my Apple ID; however, my iPod Classic, which I have had for many years, will not sync hundreds of songs that I have purchased and says the device needs to be authorized.  Help!

I have purchased a new computer and authorized my iTunes with my Apple ID; however, my iPod Classic, which I have had for many years, will not sync hundreds of songs that I have purchased and says the device needs to be authorized.
I have searched high and low and there does not seem to be a way to authorize the iPod Classic.  What can I do to sync my purchases to my iPod?  I have tried reformatting/restoring it as suggested.  It continues to only allow me to sync non-icloud/itunes content.
    Help!

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

  • My ipod 5th generation charges when connected to my PC but not recognised in itunes with windows 8.1

Why is my ipod 5th generation not recognised in itunes in windows 8.1?Connection to my PC only charges the battery.

Did this iPod previously work with this computer (running Windows 8.1), and does not now for some reason?  Or is this the first time (or the first time with Windows 8.1)?
The fact that only the battery charging symbol appears on the iPod screen seems to indicate that the iPod does not recognize a data connection.  It's like you are connecting the iPod to USB (wall) power adapter.  It is likely that the Windows system also does not see the iPod as a connected device; you should confirm by looking at Device Manager.
You should rule out a faulty USB docking cable.  The dock connector has separate connection points for power and data, so it is possible for it to connect to charge the battery but not connect for data.  So, if possible, try another docking cable, or try the cable you have with another Apple device.
You should rule out a problem on the USB port.  If you connect something else to the same port, does it work properly?  Preferably, you should use something similar, like a USB flash drive or port-powered external drive, and try copying over some large files.
If the USB port and docking cable are OK, the cause is more likely to be on the iPod (such as a dock connector that is worn out from use).

1 - the iPhoto application is an application and does not hole your photos - your photos are in the iPhoto library an dour normal daily backup will back them up so your photos are safe
2 - what exactly does the error message say? You probably need to reinstall the iPhoto application form the original source
3 - note that no version of iPhoto comes with any OS - iPhoto comes with all new Macs but not with any OS and most OS versions can run many different versions of iPhoto

  • Whenever i charge my ipod 5th generation i have to move the charger around for about 5 minutes,it doesnt want to charge and switches on and off?

whenever i charge my ipod 5th generation,i find myself moving the charger around for about 5minutes,the first few months the charger has worked fine now it is playing up,turning on and off charge?

I would make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out. The warranty covers manufacturer's defects. Unfortuantely, if you inadvertantly cause some damage in your wiggling, it could be determined that you broke the port - regardless if it was malfunctioning before or not. Have them look at it and see what they say.
