Whenever i try to download something, after i hit 'save' Firefox says "not responding" and i have to log out of my desktop and then back in to do anything, why?

it happens every time I try to download- it could be a song, or a word document. size does not seem to matter. When i relog in, something will be downloaded, but it will be like 300 bytes, nothing like the whole file.

Have you tried leaving it to hang for 5 minutes?

Yes, he purchased Mountain Lion on his Apple ID. It is licensed to him. What he should have done was erase the HDD and install the system that the Mac shipped with. Erase and re-install either from Recovery Partition or the disks the Mac originally shipped with. Then, purchase ML with your own Apple ID and install.

Sounds like a "hang at exit" problem. There are several possible causes for that error. See:

Very often, when I'm websurfing with Moxilla, I click on something and then the WHOLE THING will stop and up top it will say "Not responding" and I'm unable to click on anything else. It is happening over and over again and is very FRUSTRATING!!

When I'm using Moxilla Firefox, I will click on something on a page and the whole stupid thing will stop working and will say "not responding". It's SO FRUSTRATING that I plan to go back to IE and not use Firefox anymore.

Normally, I would suggest restoring the iPad and uninstall and reinstall iTunes but you have done both of those things - more times than you ever imagined!
Have you thought about turning auto syncing off?
Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
If you do this you can backup the iPad right away before it syncs. You may want to go into all of the iTunes tabs and just make sure that all of the current content on the iPad is selected to sync before you actually do sync.
This doesn't solve the problem, but it would prevent the automatic sync and erasing content. Hopefully, in the next few days- when iOS 5 is released - you will also be relieved of this weird iPad behavior - since the iOS devices are supposed to become PC free.
BTW - and this is no excuse for what you are experiencing, but I have found that some of the game apps that I had on my iPad turned out to be quite troublesome and after I removed them, my problems went away. I know that is almost sacrilege with regard to the Angry Birds addiction .... But I'm just saying ...

Pages works with all other docs, except the one I need to work on. From my downloads folder I can preview the entire file, however whenever I try to open it, i get the "opening" pane filled to ~90% and then the SBBOD. Only file it does this on...help??

From my downloads folder it recognizes the file as a Pages document, I can preview the entire document, but I try to open the file in multiple ways (from right click, to open from preview, from inside pages) and it refuses to open. The "opening" prompt comes up, fills ~90% and then I eventually get the SBBOD. It will fail out if given long enough to think it through or i need to force quit.

Since it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer. As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you. I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.

Downloads are possible, but require a "helper" app to store and use the download. If safari detects another app has registered for downloads, you will see an "open in app's name" to indicate that mobile safari will download that file but hand it off to this app to store in that app's sandbox. An example of a "helper" app would be something like iFiles:
