Whenever I try to use my macbook, it will work for about 10 min. then the screen will go black, the computer will not respond to my commands, and I have to restart it. Can anyone tell me what's going on, and how to fix it? Thank you!!!
Hello everyone, like most people on this site, I am having difficulties understanding and fixing my Macbook Pro. About a month ago my computer screen went black, the computer was unresponsive, and it started making a beeping noise. I restarted the computer, and it seemed to have fixed itself. 6 days ago, I put my laptop into it's case with some papers, went home (about 30 min. after putting laptop into case), and opened my bag. My computer's fans were on, the computer was really hot, and when I opened the computer, the screen was black and unresponsive. I turned it off, let it cool down, turned it back on, started to stream a video on Hulu, and about ten minutes after, the screen went black again and the computer was unresponsive. Now everytime I turn it on after about ten to fifteen minutes the screen will go black, the computer will become unresponsive, and I have to shut it off. The weird thing though is that everytime I restart my computer, when I reopen my account, my computer acts as if nothing has happened, and everything I had opened or unsaved is still there without autosave saving the documents. The screen also goes black and the computer becomes unresposive when I move the computer around. I get a lot of pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet. I don't know if one of those pop-up websites might have given me a virus or may be the cause of this problem. I don't now what is wrong with my computer or how to fix it, but if anyone has any advice, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!!!! Thank you very much!!!
-- Sincerely, A very confused, scared, and hopless Macbok Owner
To get rid of "pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet", click on Safari in the Menu bar, and select Preferences. Next select Extensions. Delete all of them. Restart Safari.
The first step in addressing the black screen is an SMC reset.
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

I can't update my software because software update tells me I'm not connected to the internet... if that's true how am I able to ask this question?... Can anyone tell me what's going on and what I need to do to correct this?
If you have a slow connection speed, update will not download.
Are you using broadband and are you close to the modem? -
Transferred backed-up data from external hard disk to new hard drive on my MacBook Pro which seemed to be successful. I now find that some (or maybe all) old emails have been resent. Can anyone tell me what has happened?
Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
Good Luck - Cheers,
M. -
We got a new Apple TV for Christmas and it works wonderful. However, my question is this. We are on a satelitte internet system and our bandwidth is limited. Can anyone tell me what effect it will have on using up my 10 megs of bandwidth? If I run over the 10 mgs, the service either slows way down until it is reset on the first of the next month or I have to purchase additional bandwidth and it can get expensive.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. If you only have a 10MB limit on the Internet connection you might as well not have Internet access and certainly should not attempt to stream anything.
If the limit is 10GB, then you will need to be careful with streaming as most video is 1-3GB for a one hour show. -
I'm trying to update my iPad but it says I don't have enough available storage. But I have more than enough can anyone tell me what the problem is?
Well, we can't as we don't know what you consider as "more than enough". The built is quite heavy (like it can be 800mb) then it needs to be extracted to be installed before everything unneeded gets deleted...

Can anyone tell me what's going on here?
I'm a video producer and have a license with a royalty free music site. Before upgrading to Safari 4, I could demo audio tracks just fine (using this interface: http://www.dewolfe.co.uk/musicsearch/cd_tracks.php?cdnumber=DWCD%200470). This feature also still works in Firefox. In Safari 4, however, when I click to preview a track, it does nothing and eventually gives me an error saying "could not find player p_undefined." Any ideas? I tried uninstalling Flash, installing the newest version and repairing permissions - to no avail.
Thank you in advance! If you look around the discussions, you will fine that you are not alone with Flash problems. I have been having trouble with mine ever since the new 10.5.7 update on Mac and the new Safari. I too have download the new Flash 10 and so on and so on and still cannot get outside sources (or Safari) to notice that I do indeed have Flash 10 loaded. I think it is a Mac and Safari problem and I suppose, just like many times in the past, we will have to wait for either Mac or Adobe to come up with a fix across the board. Some have the problem and some don't. It may have something to do with some of our other programs interfering as well, which would explain why some have the problem and some don't.

Can anyone tell me what this messsage means and how to fix it?
I use CS3 to prepare a black and white newsletter for our village onmy MAC and frequently change colour photos to greyscale. However when printing on my HP Colour Laserjet 2550L the photo shows as a dark green colour. I've tried everything imaginable, new drivers etc. but still get the green print instead of greyscale.
The ColorSync Utility had just appeared on my desktop with the following message:
Searching for profiles...
Checking 54 profiles...
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/EW-sRGB
Tag 'desc': Tag size is not correct. Could not be fixed.
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Profiles/Recommended/CoatedFOGRA27.icc
Tag 'desc': Tag size is not correct.
The file is locked. Could not be fixed.
Repair done - 0 out of 2 profiles fixed.
Could this be the problem? And if so, how do I fix it?
Don't really want to uninstall and reinstall but expect that's the only answer. Is it? Can anyone help? The driver is one the Apple Mac store downloaded for me.
I attach the print summary which might give a clue. When converting
files to grayscale, I use Image>Mode>grayscale. The other thing is
that I can't print in Photoshop, so I do all my editing in Photoshop
and print through Indesign. Printing in Photoshop is just a page of
text.
The other odd thing is that coloured pdf files printed in Adobe
Acrobat are just a mass of colour, no recognisable picture but if I
change the print option in Acrobat to print in grayscale I get
pictures! I just feel I'm overlooking some checked option, but I've
tried to restore to default without success. I used to use Pagemaker
6.0 to do my newsletter on my PC but had to change to Indesign when I
changed to MAC and the printer hasn't worked properly since!!!
Many thanks for your reply. Maybe someone out there might be able to
help. -

Can anyone tell me what's going on with my iMac?
I have a Mac with 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3, memory, 4GB 1333 MHz RAM and I'm running OS X version 10.7.5
It started yesterday.
When I try to shut down, I get the rainbow coloured wheel that just turns and turns. (sorry that I don't know the technical terms).
I just tried to close down Word, and the same thing happened.
Am I doing something wrong?
Is this indicative of a looming problem?I have seen this a few times too. It is normal. At 100% the iPhone shuts down the charging, but you can rarely catch it at 100% without the plug symbol. The plug symbol at a level less that 100%, can indicate abnormal charging status however.

Please can someone tell me what is going on when I get this message for the Time Capsule?
Yes, this is because Lion or ML which you are using have lousy networking.
The trick is simply reboot the TC..
Or on Lion use the 5.6 utility and disconnect all users.
For ML sorry.. Apple decided you don't need that function any more!!.

Read C12.. I think C17 is also related. -
I have mac os x10.4.11 Tiger , i tried to update and after I did that when I tried to use itunes, but it doesn't open.. can anyone tell me what I have to do to fix this ??
Hello,
Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
* Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
minimum system requirements
* 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
* DVD drive for installation
* 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.
Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mac+os+x+leopard+retail+10.5
There are workarounds if the 867MHz CPU is the only hangup...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/leopardassist/
http://lowendmac.com/osx/leopard/unsupported.html
So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, report the version of OSX from that window, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...

I have a Mac Pro 4,1 quad core intel Xeon running mac OSX 10.6.8 and I have just moved studios and now need to use the Internet wirelessly but there's no airport facilities on this model can anyone tell me what model of airport card I would need for this mac
Instead of getting a wireless card for the Mac Pro, you might want to consider getting an 802.11ac wireless bridge device that would enable you to connect more than one device to it by Ethernet cable and to eventually take advantage of the faster 802.11ac wireless standard.
