Where'd FF3.6 go?

Seems odd to drop FF3.6 when it is more than 70% more popular than IE6 – which is still there.
From Adobe's own SiteCatalyst NetAverages: https://netaverages.adobe.com/en-us/index.html#state=onionRing;report=11
As of today, FF3.6 = 6%, IE6.0 = 3.5%
Am I missing something?

I answered this in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/883474?tstart=0
Summary: Firefox 3.6 has dropped in usage to the point that it is no longer relevant, so it was removed.
We posted about it on the team blog:
http://blogs.adobe.com/browserlab/2011/08/12/browserlab-1-6-3-with-new-mac-os-x-browsers-i s-now-live/
I gave early warning and a call for comments in this earlier blog post:

  • The new format on FF4 is confusing and difficult to use. Is there a setting where I can change it to show the FF3.6 format?

    Myself and several of my friends were discussing the new Firefox layout for Firefox 4.0, and we find it difficult to use. We would like to have the option of using the new Firefox with the old 3.8 layout. That would make it much easier to use. One of my friends is vision impaired and having become accustomed to the old layout, is finding it almost impossible to transition.
    I have uninstalled FF4.0 and re-installed FF3.8 so that I can have the familiar layout. Others are doing the same.

    If you do not like the new appearance of Firefox 4 then you can change some setting to restore the Firefox 3 appearance.
    You can right click the orange Firefox button to open the toolbar menu.
    * Click the Menu Bar entry to make the Menu Bar visible.
    * Click "Tabs on Top" to remove the check mark and place the Tab Bar at its original position just above the browser window.
    Firefox 4 uses a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end of the location bar.
    During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.
    If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
    You can middle-click that Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.
    In Firefox 4 you no longer have the Status bar that showed the padlock in previous Firefox versions.<br />
    The padlock only shows that there is a secure connection and doesn't guarantee that you are connected to the right server.<br />
    So you might still be connected to the wrong server if you make a typo in the URL and someone has claimed that mistyped URL.<br />
    The functionality of the padlock has been replaced by the [[Site Identity Button]] on the left end of the location bar.<br />

  • 'Bookmark all tabs' - I don't find this command in FF4 but FF3.6 used to have it. Where is it?

    There was a 'Bookmark all tabs' command in the bookmarks pull down in earlier versions of Firefox but it's not there in FF4. Could someone tell me where it is?

    You can access bookmark all tabs by right-clicking on a tab, or use the keyboard shortcut Control+Shift+D

  • Firefox 4 don't find any allready installed plugins (Flash player, vlc ....)on Mandriva. Those plugins where detected and working in FF3.6. Do you have any solution?

    We have try to install the plugins in :
    usr/lib64/firefox/pluglins;usr/lib/mozilla/pluglins;usr/lib64/mozilla/pluglins;opt/firefox/pugins ...... no way.

    I am using Ad Blocker. I have read to uninstall it and try Flash but this was not effective. So any solution would be appreciated.

    Hi Sid,
    Where you able to get Ad Blocker removed?  If you go to the About Flash Player page, do you see the spinnng red F?

  • Arial Black is the specified font for headers on my website; however, FF4 doesn't render out Arial Black whereas FF3.6 rendered it out perfectly along with other browsers. What's the deal?

    I just upgraded to FF4 and was surprised to see that Arial Black wasn't rendering. My css validates and have never had an issue rendering our Arial Black on any browser - as of now FF4 is the only browser that doesn't support Arial Black. Chrome, Safari, IE9, and Opera all display my fonts as I specified in the css. Being a web designer I seek uniformity across all browsers.

    Found the answer [http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/971376-firefox-displays-my-site-incorrectly-other-browsers-fine/page__p__593634608#entry593634608 here] . Changing the CSS to this should do the trick:
    font-weight: 900;
    font-family: "Arial Black", Arial, sans-serif;

  • MapViewer geometry theme 'mouse_click' doesn't always work in FF3

    I have code that works with IE7 but not FireFox 3 (I'm using MapViewer Ver1033p5_B080908 and an 11.1.0.6 db). I've been able to duplicate it by only slightly modifying Oracle Maps demo #5, "Theme Based FOI layer visibility". Code is shown below.
    I'm displaying two geometry themes. I need to know when the user clicks on either theme or the background. I add the themes and call setEventListener('mouse_click') for both themes and the mapview. In IE7 I get the expected result - one of the three handlers gets called depending on where I click. In FF3 (specifically 3.0.3) only the "top" theme's mouse handler is active. Cicking on the bottom theme - even when there is no overlap at all - only calls the mapview's handler. Same is true with info tooltips - they display for both themes in IE7, but only for the top theme in FF3. (http://www.navsys.com/BruceB/mapviewer.gif shows the two themes - one green, the other pink. On FF3 I never get a "hand" cursor or a tooltip over any of the pink areas, and clicking calls the mapview handler, not the theme handler.)
    Incidently if I hide the "top" theme, then the mouse clicks/tooltip work again on the other theme.
    Is this expected?
    Thanks!

    Alan McClean has alluded to the cause of this behaviour but I think others would benefit from a full explanation because it doesn't appear to be documented. I might add that Business Objects support were no help at all on this (they suggested I had a problem with my mouse, PC or network which I don't).
    Normal response to a mouse double-click on a document name in InfoView XI3:
    The double-click action performs the default action on the right-click list. This is the option you see in bold when you right-click on a document name. The default action is 'View' document. So when you double-click on the document it opens for viewing.
    In CMC, under Applications>InfoView if you set 'Default viewing action on listing page:' to 'View the latest successful instance of the object' then the double-click behaviour changes:
    The double-click action now tries to open the latest successful instance of a document. I found that any document in my Inbox or any document with instances (e.g. scheduled report) will still open for viewing using the double-click. For any other document the double-click fails silently. I assume this is because there simply isn't a latest instance to open.
    Conclusions:
    1. Don't use the 'View the latest successful instance of the object'. I have reset my CMC setting back to 'View the object'.
    2. I think Business Objects should change the double-click behaviour so that rather than fail silently it opens the document.

  • Select with timestamp in the where-clause don't work after importing data

    Hello,
    I have to databases (I call them db1 and db2, they have the same datastructure) and exported some data from the table "rfm_meas"from db1. Later on I imported that dataset into the "rfm_meas"-table of db2. The table contains a col with the datatype "timestamp(6)" and checking the success of the import looks fine:
    (executed on db2)
    SELECT
    id,acqtime
    from
    rfm_meas
    WHERE
    box_id=1
    AND id>145029878
    Returns two rows:
    ID ACQTIME
    145029883 01.06.10 10:30:00,000000000
    145029884 01.06.10 10:50:00,000000000
    It seems there are valid timestamps as I expected.
    But if I now want to select all rows from box_id=1 which are newer than e.g. 25-may-2010 I would try this:
    SELECT
    id,acqtime
    from
    rfm_meas
    WHERE
    box_id=1
    AND acqtime>=to_timestamp('25-05-2010 17:10:00,000','DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI:SS,FF3')
    And it returns ... nothing!? If I execute the same query on db1 it works correctly.
    I guess db1 and db2 has different codepages!?
    If I insert some rows from a PL/SQL script in db2 into the "rfm_meas"-table, querys like the one above works fine. Therefore i guess, during importing the data there must be something wrong, so I cann see the timestamp, but can't use it.
    How can i fix that? Any ideas?
    If someone need more details I will provide it.
    Regards
    Steffen

  • Queries involving where clause with timestamp data type

    I need to use milliseconds in my tables and do queries where I compare the time in the table to a specific time. I changed the column to the TIMESTAMP data type (from DATE) to accommodate the milliseconds.
    I am accessing the data via a C++ program using ODBC to access the Oracle 10g XE database and a SQLBindParameter statement to set up the comparisons.
    Below is a table that looks like mine but simplified to just a few fields:
    . DATA_ID NOT NULL NUMBER(10)
    . START_TIME NOT NULL TIMESTAMP(6)
    . STOP_TIME NOT NULL TIMESTAMP(6)
    My query is:
    . string sql("select "\
    . "to_Char(rv.start_time, 'YYYYMMDD HH24:MI:SS.FF3'), "\
    . "to_Char(rv.stop_time, 'YYYYMMDD HH24:MI:SS.FF3'), "\
    . "rv.data_id "\
    . "from "\
    . "Reservation rv "\
    . "where "\
    . "rv.data_id = ? and "\
    . "rv.stop_time >= to_timestamp(?, 'YYYYMMDD HH24:MI:SS.FF3') and "\
    . "rv.start_time <= to_timestamp(?, 'YYYYMMDD HH24:MI:SS.FF3');");
    MY C++ code (minus the usual statement preparation material) is:
    . string startTime("20090826 15:42:02.000");
    . string stopTime("20110828 02:04:52.000");
    . SQLRETURN rc = SQL_SUCCESS;
    . SQLINTEGER sqlRsrcInstanceId = resource->getResourceInstanceId();
    . SQLLEN sqlRsrcInstanceIdLI = 0;
    . rc |= SQLBindParameter( stmtHandle, 1, SQL_PARAM_INPUT,
    . SQL_C_LONG, SQL_INTEGER, 0, 0,
    . &sqlRsrcInstanceId, 0, &sqlRsrcInstanceIdLI );
    . SQLCHAR sqlStartTime[24];
    . memset(sqlStartTime, 0, 24);
    . SQLLEN sqlStartTimeLI = SQL_NTS;
    . strncpy( (char*)sqlStartTime, startTime, 23);
    . rc |= SQLBindParameter( stmtHandle, 2, SQL_PARAM_INPUT,
    . SQL_C_CHAR, SQL_CHAR,
    . sizeof(sqlStartTime)-1, 0,
    . &sqlStartTime, sizeof(sqlStartTime)-1,
    . &sqlStartTimeLI);
    . SQLCHAR sqlStopTime[24];
    . memset(sqlStopTime, 0, 24);
    . SQLLEN sqlStopTimeLI = SQL_NTS;
    . strncpy( (char*)sqlStopTime, stopTime, 23);
    . rc |= SQLBindParameter( stmtHandle, 3, SQL_PARAM_INPUT,
    . SQL_C_CHAR, SQL_CHAR,
    . sizeof(sqlStopTime)-1, 0,
    . &sqlStopTime, sizeof(sqlStopTime)-1,
    . &sqlStopTimeLI);
    When the statement is executed, I get the following error:
    . ODBC Return Code: SQL Error.
    . Native Error Code/Message:
    . 932/[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected - got -
    Any suggestions on what is wrong or a better way to perform the query?

    The only way to test a query is to get out of your environment and fire up SQL*Plus (command line).
    I can not read all of what you wrote but the error you are generating should show up there along with sufficient information to quickly fix it.
    Once you have working statement put it back into your environment.

  • FF3 used to have a backup button that I could jump backwards several pages. Is there a way in FF4 for this?

    There is a backup button in FF4 that is larger than the round one in FF3. But to the right of the forward button there used to be a dropdown that would list the last dozen pages. Can this function be enabled in FF4 or do I need to look for a plug-in to do this. I can't believe they took it out.

    Right click the Back / Forward buttons to get a list of sites previously visited.
    You can also install this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker/
    You can also use the location bar to search history, bookmarks etc. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Location%20bar%20autocomplete#w_changing-results-on-the-fly Search using the Awesome bar](The Awesome bar is the same as the location bar where you normally type in a web address).

  • Where has the bookmark property for specifying the icon gone?

    In FF3 if I selected a bookmark and its properties, I was provided a field where I could specify the location on my PC for the desired icon for that bookmark. This was particularly true for specifying the icons for the Bookmarks Toolbar. I have the TotalToolbar v1.9.1 extension installed, but I am not sure that that extension gave me that capability for FF3. In FF4 there is no such property for bookmarks to specify, or change, the icon. One step back.

    This issue is caused by an extension that isn't working in Firefox 4
    You can look at this extension:

  • Where to download FF 3.6.18?

    Being an enterprise installation, we have found that FF4 and FF5 have broken an number of our websites and or functionality in other websites. So we are staying on FF3.6.x. I noticed that 3.6.18 was just released. Where can I download this version so that I can distribute it locally?

  • Where can i download FF4 for testing?

    A client requires us to test MAC and PC firefox 4.0, however I can only find installer for FF5 and FF3.x on the site. Where can I find FF4 installers? Thank you

    Firefox has moved to a rapid release schedule and is removing user-facing version numbers. New versions will release every six weeks. Essentially, FF5 was a stability fix. Under the old numbering regime, it would've been considered 4.1.
    http://blog.mozilla.com/blog/2011/06/21/mozilla-delivers-new-version-of-firefox-first-web-browser-to-support-do-not-track-on-multiple-platforms/
    It's your call, but I wouldn't bother to test separately.

  • Don't like FF4 UI, where can I redownload previous version?

    I don't like the user interface in FF4. Just because something is new doesn't make it good.
    The installation didn't give an option to save the old version so I could go back to it, I'll have to redownload and install FF3.
    Sooo..... Where can I redownload FF3. There aren't any links on the mozilla site.

    Firefox is highly customizable and you may be able to customize it to meet your needs.
    If you do not like the new UI, you can make Firefox 4 look and behave more like Firefox 3.6, for details see http://www.computertechtips.net/64/make-firefox-4-look-like-ff-3-6
    I would not use Firefox 3.5, that has now reached its end-of-life and will not be supported with any more updates. To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
    You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
    To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
    For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • Where are the old Firefox releases?

    As i have problems getting Pencil up and running with FF4 so i wnt to remove it and install FF3 again. FF4 is of no value for me at the moment when old plugins and extensions are not working anymore.
    But the website is not presenting a link to the old versions? At least i can not find it...
    Where can i find these old versions?

    Please do the following.
    Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.17] and download it to the desktop.
    Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to '''Mozilla Firefox '''and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).
    Then reboot and delete the folder called '''Mozilla Firefox''' at this location: ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox''
    Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.
    Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.
    After you complete the installation, go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update those where necessary.
