Where do Apple's desktop image files live?

Hi,
I use my own collection of pictures to rotate my desktop image, but there are some from Apple that I like and would like to get in the mix. Does anyone know where these files live so that I can copy the ones I want into my desktop pics folder??
Thanks,
SS

G'day Scuba Steve,
Go to your "Macintosh HD"
Then go into "Library"
Then go into "Desktop Pictures"
Hope that helps!
Bryan

  • Where is apple remote desktop?

Where is apple remote desktop installed?

Note that the administrator software for Apple Remote Destkop is not included with Mac OS X. You have to purchase it. It's available from the Mac App Store for $79 US if I remember the price correctly. Once installed, the administrator application will be the Applications folder.

  • How come 5.0 can't open local desktop images files (.jpg, .tif, .png ...) on my Mac anymore?

I'm using Mac 10.6.8 and the newest version of Firefox 5.0. I have always been able to select File > Open File from the Firefox menu and select any image file on my computer and view it in the browser window. Suddenly I can't do this. All image files on my system are greyed out and not accessible. I can open html files from my local desktop and all images are present but can't open any .css files or single image files.

    Here's the *.tiff file.
I've had to switch browser to Safari, as you can't load a tiff in Firefox, either.

  • Where is the current desktop image stored??

    Hi,
I have an image that I've set as my desktop and I want to find the original file...
Where is this file kept? I haven't been able to find it in the 'library' or the 'system' files.
Any help is appreciated as always...
    -SS

If it's a custom one, it's stored in its original location. The default ones look like they're in "/Library/Desktop Pictures". You can find out where the current one is by opening the Terminal application and copying and pasting this one-liner:
defaults read com.apple.desktop | grep ImageFilePath
Hit the "enter" key and it'll tell you where the original file is.

  • Where should I store the image file?

I registered a schema, created a table, then inserted a XML file which contains following lines
    <material>
    <matimage imagtype="image/gif" uri="image2.gif">

My question is where should I store this image2.gif so it can be displayed when my application retrieve this XML file?

  • My lock screen just shows a black background and a User Name/Password dialog after opening the screen from sleep. How do I get it back to where it blurs my desktop image with the dialog and my account image displayed?

I'm not sure when it began, but now my Macbook Air only shows a black background and a User Name and Password dialog box when I wake it from sleep. It used to show my desktop background blurred with my user name and icon displayed with only a text field for entering my password. I'm currently using Yosemite (OS X 10.10.1) and all updates have been done. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I know this isn't a real problem, just an annoyance since I couldn't find how to change it back in the System Preferences.

I just have to point out that after looking at a related post (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22661092#22661092), it brought to memory that my issue most certainly began happening after I added some DoD certificates to the keychain. This obviously has something to do with it, but it still leaves me wondering what actually causes this to happen. :/

  • How to find desktop background image file

I am preparing an old PowerBook G4 laptop to be sold. I had previously lent it to a friend and I am selling it to another friend. The friend to whom I lent it asked me for the desktop image file so he can use it as his desktop on the Mac he owns.
I shot that photo years ago and I can't find the original .jpg for it, so I am hoping that I can find the desktop version of it before I finish preparing my PowerBook for sale. I have searched everywhere, but that image file does not show up on the PowerBook.
I figure that since I can see the photo when I am logged in, it must be somewhere, but where? I originally had it in iPhoto, but it was deleted from there at least two years ago. This PowerBook only has one account, so there's not a lot of places to look through.
If anyone has any pointers on how to find an image file on a PowerBook running Mac OS X 10.4.11, please let me know.

    HI Stanely,
Try going to System Preferences/Desktop&ScreenSaver. Click the Desktop tab. Now, go thru the folders listed there to see if the image shows up there. If it does, then go to Spotlight and type in the name of the folder where the image was. Spotlight will populate a list for you. At the top of the list click where it says: Show All. A pane will open. Look for the folder, then on the right click the little white circle with an "i" in it. That will give you the path to find the folder where the image resides.
You can search Spotlight by typing in these extensions: jpg tiff png pict gif bmp psp that's another way to search for an image.
Also, open a Finder window and look in the Sidebar on the left. Click where it says: Pictures. Might be in there also.

  • Need help finding moved image files

How would I find files after they have been moved? I travel and use a MB Pro laptop. The workflow I'm using is to download images to my desktop, review, rate and add keywords immediately. I make 2 backups, 1 to portable data store hard drive and one to DVD. Then every few days I erase the desktop image files. When I arrive home I download the entire trip's images from the portable storage to my desktop drives (2 500Gb SATA drives).
Is there an easy way to direct Aperture to look for the files in the new location? Or, failing that, is there a better way to work? I regularly have 40 - 60 Gb of images after a trip and the laptop hard drive is inadequate for the task.

The question isn't really clear to me yet. If you know what "the new location" is, then it's easy to make Aperture point to it. But that may not be the question. I think you may need to describe your workflow in more detail.
You don't say how to review etc images on the MBP. If you're using Aperture, it must be with a library. Are you using Managed images there? So is the problem how to transfer data -- images and edits and metadata -- from the library on the MBP to the library (with referenced images??) on the desktop?
Synchronizing libraries is not something Apple makes easy or offers any real help with. The best way to do it turns out to be to export one project at a time, connect to the other machine and its library, and import the projects. (In the process you might also Relocate images to make them referenced.)
But your note about the laptop drive being to small is confusing. I don't see where your images are when you're on the road.

  • How do you reference image files in jsp which becomes a portlet ?

My portlet is a servlet managing jsp pages. In each of the jsp s, there are image files (*.gif) being referenced. I have placed the image files in .../public_html/WEB-INF/images/ in explorer. In my jsp, I am referencing the image file as
    src="WEB-INF/images/help.gif"
On deploying my portlet, the image is not being picked up by the portal. Also, on moving the image and modifying the reference to it, I am still getting the same problem.
Can anyone advise, for my portlet to display the image correctly,
    1) where should I place the image files ?
    2) how should the jsp code reference it ?
    Cheers,
    Tara

    Hi,
The behaviour you are reporting is an expected behaviour. If you want to include images in your JSP, you need to specify the complete absolute URL to the image on the midtier as only then can the portal invoke that image.
Actually, when you specified the relative URL
WEB-INF/images/help.gif, Oracle9iASPortal actually looks for the image help.gif in the directory structure WEB-INF/lib at its end. As no such file exists, the images are not rendered onto Oracle9iASPortal page.
So you got to use the following workaround,
Assuming your provider name is "temp" (deployed using temp.ear) & the image name is "help.gif" which is stored in the htdocs folder inside temp. This image is invoked by help.jsp
You can get the absolute path of this image as follows:
    Request URL is : http://<host>:<port>/temp/providers/temp
    Request URI is : /temp/providers/temp
    So, Base URL = http://<host>:<port>
    Servlet Path is : /temp/htdocs/help.jsp
Truncating the Servlet Path to /temp/htdocs & appending this to Base URL should give you
    http://<host>:<port>/temp/htdocs
which is the directory that contains your image. add image name to this URL to get the absolute p[i]Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.

  • Where can I locate the Apple Desktop images?

Hi all, am trying to find the Apple Desktop images as there is one which I'd love to have on my phone.
For the life of me though I can't seem to find where these images live. Any ideas?

Desktop pictures are located in :
    Macintosh HD/Library/Desktop Pictures
This should be standard on all machines, however for some reason they are not there, then simply use Spotlight to search for "Aqua Blue" (the name of one of the backgrounds) and you can find it that way.

  • Where is the user image file located?

So, I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find a sollution that works in Mountain Lion.
I'd like to be able to locate the image file which I'm using for my user account icon. It also appears in iMessage and Contacts, but I can't drag it to the the desktop. Because I don't know the file name, I can't search for it.
Does anyone know where it is stored? Or how I can extract it?

    Hi,
Previously in iChat the "Recent Pics" were stored and shown in the Drop down in the Buddy list.
    The place was ~/Library/Images
In Mountain Lion it appears that the Drop Down shows "Recent Pics" but is pulling them from several sources.
    The Messages Drop down
The Recent Picture Folder has these:-
    Some Match and some don't.
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook holds the Zebra and copies of my Sig and thre Union Flag.
At present I cannot find the ones the System Preferences > User and Groups > your account has as Pic are stored.
Some of the pics are the Apple Default ones.  (Hardrive Name/Library/User Pictures)
You can also take a Snap Shot on Macs with cameras  and I guess it is this that you are after ?

  • Can't find com.apple.desktop.plist file in Preferences folder.

I have three desktop spaces, and I have them randomly changing backgroud from a selection of pictures in a folder. To quickly find out which picture was currently use for each desktop, I have a AppleScript that returns some infomation within the com.apple.desktop.plist file. This has been working perfectly fine in Mountain Lion.
However, after I installed the Mavericks (clean install from scratch), my script no longer works. The background images can be changed as before, but there's no com.apple.desktop.plist file exist anywhere in my hard drive.
Does anyone run into similar problems as me? It's driving me nuts! I can't think of any reason that there shouldn't be such a file... Thank you very much!

The returned file name from your terminal command "sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db '.dump' | grep jpg" is the file name of my current desktop picture "Earth and Moon.jpg".
The returned file names from your script:
    set theResult to "Space 1 Wallpaper: ~/Pictures/Background/" & (do shell script"sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\\ Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db \"SELECT data.value FROM preferences INNER JOIN data on preferences.key=16 and preferences.picture_id=3 and preferences.data_id=data.ROWID\"") & "

    Space 3 Wallpaper: ~/Pictures/Background/" & (do shell script "sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\\ Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db \"SELECT data.value FROM preferences INNER JOIN data on preferences.key=16 and preferences.picture_id=7 and preferences.data_id=data.ROWID\"")
display dialog theResult buttons {"Done"} default button 1
    are
    Space 1 Wallpaper: ~/Pictures/Background/3439B
    Space 2 Wallpaper: ~/Pictures/Background/5244B
    Space 3 Wallpaper: ~/Pictures/Background/5244B
The return from your terminal command "find ~/Pictures/iPhoto\ Library.photolibrary/Masters -name filename.jpg" is
find: /Users/Peter/Pictures/iPhoto Library.photolibrary/Masters: No such file or directory
The return from your terminal command "
    readlink -f ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.desktop/69730752/DSKiPhotoRootSource-allPhotosAlbum/9419B" is
    readlink: illegal option -- f
    usage: readlink [-n] [file ...]
I do have a little app (Script) which did exactly what I needed under OS X Mountain Lion but because under Mavericks Apple changed the location of the wallpaper information to a SQLite database this app is not working anymore. I could send you this app if you want but I do not know how to do this via this forum.
    Thanks again for your help.
