Where do I go if experiencing a hardware issue abroad?

I am having what appears to be an issue with others as well (the volume down button, if only touched or brushed with a finger, automatically makes the volume shoot up uncontrollably). It's brand new. No restoring helps the issue. Every discussion board says to bring it to the genius bar and have it replaced, which sounds like a great idea. However, I am currently in the Netherlands, and there is not an Apple store here, only certified resellers. Vodafone said they can send it to Apple, but this seems a bit silly. Does anyone know a way to handle these types of things directly with Apple while aborad?

Warranty repair/exchange is valid only in the country of purchase, the exception being the EU which functions as a single "country".

No joy at all they just keep saying it's the phone but was fine before update and @metasolaray why should I pay for extra cover when the fault is not the phone but the update they have put out for everyone to install and I am far from being the only person as there is hundreds of people going through the same with this update and it's not been the first time they messed it up

Apple should take resonsibility for this, otherwise they will lose lots of loyal customers. I have moved away from the ipad due to expense and am now very tempted to do so away from the iphone. Selling a product that prompts an update that breaks the phone is not good.

Have had the same issues with iPhone 4S since the upgrade.  No wifi button, battery draining every 8 hours with no use, phone shutting on & off for no reason at all.  I gave in and tried the hair dryer method.  Turned the phone off and hel d the dryer over the camera lense area for one minute.  Turned the phone back on and to my shock, had wifi button back again.  That was 2 days ago.  Battery is lasting normal amount of time again and I can use wifi again!  Hopefully this will last.  I know it doesn't work for everyone but it doesn't hurt to try.  Much better than spending the $200 at the Apple store, which by the way, the genius said Apple is aware of the problems but there is nothing they can do.

If not Apple won't want to know
I know I've tried but they will not help.
I've email bbc watchdog the consumer

Having the same issue: iOS 7.0.2 with no WiFi / poor Battery stamina and really slow software experience when opening several options at Settings icon.
Apple care agent contacted me and we try all alternatives to isolate and detect if this is regarding a hardware problem. Of course they told me it is. Too sad. My phone is in immaculate condition.
My mother has an Iphone, my father has an Iphone, my 2 sisters have Iphones, my brother, wife and daugther... we all have Iphones. Mine's the only one with this fault (my personal experience: fail prob is 12,5% -1 out of 8).
At this point, I'm evaluating to stop buying apple products for fear that in the future the same will happen with some "premium" product that ultimately they are not.
Too sad, sorry but this is too much.

I got my 4s in August 2012, as an upgrade on my Vodafone contract Following the installation of IOS 7 I also experienced greying out of wifi and bluetooth. I tried various options suggested on forums however none worked. I took my phone to Vodafone who told me it was a problem they were aware of but couldn't do anything about as Apple had to deal with it. I took it to my nearest Apple store (60 miles round trip!) to be told it was not their responsibility, it was Vodafone's - something to do with consumer law! They also said I would have to pay £160 for a replacement phone as it couldn't be repaired. The 'Genius' was very cagey about it being a common problem by the way!! Back to Vodafone who said it was not their responsibility so back to Apple. This time I spoke with a Manager who told me in not so many words that it was an issue and agreed to halve the replacement cost of £160 to £80. By this time I just wanted it sorted to reluctantly paid £80 for a replacment phone. Seeing as this is CLEARLY a design fault, Apple should have replaced it free of charge. This experience just confirms what I am reading in lots of places about the Apple Company. I was going to buy an iPad but have decided not to now. I shall NOT be replacing the iphone when my contract is up. I too will be writing to BBC Watchdog.

You will probably be told that the solution is a replacement phone. Ask to speak to a Manager and insist on getting it at a lower price. I did this and got it at 50% of the usual repacement cost. Still not ideal but at least it saves you a bit of the money you shouldn't have to pay in the first place!

I depend alot on my Iphone and this Wifi greyed out issue is really getting to me!! This caused me to lose some business, but I'm sure I will make up for that in Andriod World. Switching back to andriod should have never switched to apple in the first place.

4s owner in the same boat as everyone else.
I setup a service call with apple on Monday this week and was told it's quite a common hardware failure. When I asked why I should be paying for a new phone I was advised to book an appointment in store. Well I've just returned from my appointment with a "genius" who told me that when the update is installing if any component is weak when installing it will be permanently disabled.  Was then told £150 for a new phone which I declined.
I've had  iPhones for 4 years now but due to this issue and apple washing their hands of any responsibility it will be my last.
Disappointed that a premium product has such poor backup from the manufacturer. If it was only my phone and not thousands of others I'd have probably paid for a new phone but I'll never give apple another penny again.

Same problem with my partners iPhone 4s. Restored the device but still no luck. Going to book an appointment but it sounds like we wont have much luck as it is just over a year old.
Nexus 5 time I think for both of us.

  • Possible hardware issue?

Before I get started let me say that I have the iPhone 3G 16GB, the latest firmware version 3.0.1.
Well lately it seem's like my iPhone works when it wants. For instance, the slider is unresponsive at times, apps on the home screen are also at times unresponsive to my touch. Causeing me to miss calls sometimes. Sometimes things are unresponsive and other times the iPhone works as it should.
Secondly when I go to browse the internet on the phone it is super slow. AT&T doesn't have 3G in this area so I'm used to the slow EDGE network, but lately my connection is so slow that I've been getting error messages saying: "Cannot Open Page Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding.'' I hit the refresh icon, and I constantly get the same results.
Sometimes Safari will load the page(s) faster than normal, however once the page is finished loading it's just a blank screen. When I hit the refresh icon it will then lag when it comes to opening the page, to the point I eventually get the server has stopped responding message.
I've did the whole holding down the sleep wake button thing, even keeoing the phone off for a good 15 minutes, still get the same thing, yet I've got full AT&T coverage, and the little E icon is still showing.
I've even tried restoreing the iPhone as a new iPhone and still have the same issues. I had gotten so frustrated that I gave Apple a call, since the phone is still under warrenty and the woman I spoke with said it sounded like it may be a hardware issue with the phone scheduled me for an appointment at the nearest Apple store tomorrow afternoon.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues? If so did you go to an Apple store and, if you did what did they say was wrong with your phone?

Hi Jason, Yes I have a case-mate case for the iPhone which by the way I do not reccomend, because it has scrached the back of my iPhone badly. Yes I've tried removing the case and like I said earlier sometimes the phone works fine as far as responses go, other times the whole thing just freezes on me.
We do not have 3G where I live so I'm doomed to useing the EDGE network, and I have no home internet at the moment (Im useing a public wi-fi account) however for some reason since updateing to 3.0 and 3.0.1, the phone is unable to pick up most Wi-Fi signals around here. I've even taken a walk about 5 miles up the road from where I live and still am un able to get safari to load.
As far as stocks and such go, the news section is so slow to load at times that the phone automaticly dim's the screen in an attempt to conserve battery power and eventually shuts off.

  • IMac G5 hardware issues.

    Hi,
I converted to the Mac in Nov 2005 and have been using my 20" iMac G5 since. Love it and really like OS X. I recently started experiencing hardware issues first with Video RAM and now with regular RAM. My machine has been back for repair twice and i am really getting concerned about the stability of the machine. When machine first started crashing i ran the hardware test and got an error on Video RAM, however sometimes it would fail and other times success. After n random crashes decided to send it in for repair as its still under warrantee. Got the machine back and a few days passed and then boom crashing again. Yet again ran the hardware test and this time i got a RAM error. I guess its back to base yet again for another repair. Today i spoke
with a hardware engineer at Scotsys the company i purchased the machine from and he was surprised i am still having issues as they replaced the logic board. In discussing things with him he definetly indicated that he has seen increasing number of memory issues from Mac's over the last few years. I am actually contemplating returning the machine for a full refund because i cannot afford this continual interruption and instability.
    Cheers
    David.

Have you run the Apple Hardware Test found on your installer DVD? It checks all system hardware including RAM.
If you have 3rd party RAM, I suggest you remove it and run the Hardware Test. This will eliminate or highlight any other type of problem. If no problem appears, reinstall the RAM and run the test again.
To access the test, insert your Tiger Installer DVD (disc 1) and restart. On the restart, hold down the option key until you see icons appear. Eventually, you'll see an icon for Apple Hardware Test. Click on the icon and then the arrow, which opens the Hardware Test. During the test, your fans will be quite loud. This is normal. Depending on how much RAM you have the test can take at least 10 minutes or longer.
There are two options - one is quick (around 10 - 20 minutes), the other, called "extended", takes considerably longer, however, it is much more thorough. The results ought to tell you where the problem lies.

  • Hi, I got an Error 23 when trying to restore my phone. Apple support centre says its a hardware issue without doing anything to come to this conclusion. They will not tell me how to escalate this case. Please let me know if there is a way to escalate.

One day when tried to restart my iphone 4, I got a screen asking me to connect to itunes. Itunes asked me to restore my phone. When I tried to restore, I got an Error 23 saying it cannot be restored. I tried the phone support. They asked to contact the service centre. I then tried the service centre guys. They clearly did not know what Error 23 was. They asked to contact the apple support again. After 2-3 guys tried to blow me off saying it is a hardware issue, I asked for a senior analyst. Apple support assigned a senior guy who said he will contact the engineering team. After 2 days, I was told that the engineering team has confirmed that this is a hardware issue.
What I am surprised about is that no one seems to have done any analysis or debugging to figure this out. How do they decide that this is a hardware issue?
The first time I tried it from my laptop and got this message. The support guy told me that my laptop may have an antivirus software which may be causing this issue. So I took it to the service centre. They tried the same restore from their machine and got the exact same error.
The senior analyst that was later assigned to my case, again asked me to restore from my machine. I got the same error.
Basically what they had verified in all these activities was that I was getting error 23. I dont know how they decided that this was due to hardware issues?
Online documentation on Error 23 is vague. It is bunched long with other error codes. There is no clear explanation of what Error 23 is.
But most importantly It says 'In rare cases, this may be a hardware issue'.
So if it is a hardware issue in rare case, how was my case deemed to be a 'rare case'?
When I asked them to escalate this, they said that there is no way to escalate.
I have had a horrible experience with Apple support. Till this point I used to think of Apple as a class apart. But now I am totally disillusioned.
My phone was about a year and a half old. I dont mind it if it actually turns out to be a hardware issue. I will take it as my bad luck.
But I dont see how the support guys decided that this is a hardware issue. I need to know.
And secondly I am shocked that Apple has no escalation path.
    Can anyone please help?

    Hi @imobl,
You sound like an Apple support guy who hasn't been able to answer my questions.
To respond to some of the points you made,
    - I did not ignore Ocean20's suggestion. If you has read my post, you would have known that I took my phone to the apple service centre where they tried this restore on THEIR machines. I am assuming that Apple guys know how not to block iTunes. So I actually do not understand your point about me trying the hosts file changes on my machine. Do you not believe that apple tested this issue with the correct settings?
    - you also give a flawed logic of why the issue is a hardware issue. You mentioned that If I thought that the issue was with the software, i should try a restore and getting it to work. The problem is that my error (23), and many others comes up when the restore fails. And you would be astonished to know that not all errors are hardware errors. Sometimes even software errors prevent restores. Funnily enough Apple itself mention that 'in rare cases, error 23 could be hardware related'.
    - all Apple has done so far is replicate the issue. I don not know how anyone can conclude that the issue is a hardware issue.
And by the way, I am not certain that this is a software bug. Again if you read my Posts, you will notice I only want a confirmation,/proof that the issue is hardware related as they mention..
Please refrain do. Responding if there is nothing to add.

  • Dear apple, I am really dissapointed with you. Around January 2013, my iPhone 4s 16GB White has hardware issues, which was the Wi-Fi grey out. The wifi grey out means that I can't access the wifi on/off button, and also it has no connection. I have put up

Dear apple, I am really dissapointed with you. Around January 2013, my iPhone 4s 16GB White has hardware issues, which was the Wi-Fi grey out. The wifi grey out means that I can't access the wifi on/off button, and also it has no connection. I have put up with it for months, until june 7 when I decided it has been long enough, and I got a replacement. I told the genius bar what happened, and I already did the so called "steps" that apple reccommended on the site, which was reset network settings, restore iPhone. The genius bar gave me a replacement phone, so I was expecting that the problem would be over, but it isn't. It seems that it's iOS 6.1.3 which is the case of most public complaints on apple iPhone products. Not even 3 weeks after I got the phone replaced, it is doing it again, so I suspect I'm just going to get a replacement again? Unfortunately I only have until 5th of july 2013 until my 1 year warranty is up. After that, any issue I have, I have to purchase apple care. People are expecting this problem to be fixed but I don't see it being solved any time soon. This is horrible and really low, because I have been a good customer, when I talk to the people at the genius bar, I show the utmost respect I can to them for the work they put into their job, but somewhere there is a problem where something has gone wrong. Because of that, people that only have a one year warranty (which i received because I purchased my apple iPhone at an Optus outlet, once that one year warranty is up, I have to pay for a problem that isn't even my fault? That isn't how it should work, you should be fixing this problem so people can be happy customers and leave happy. Obviously you don't all know how to do your jobs, because if you did, we wouldn't have this problem. I would like a replacement phone, ONCE AGAIN. If this problem occurs again, I will simply stop buying your products, and lose faith in your company, your's sincerely, Jack Maher.

This is a user to user help forum only. You are not addressing Apple here.
My iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPad 2 are running 6.1.3 with no such problem and the same with the overwhelming majority of iOS devices running 6.1.3.

  • Hey, I'm having a hardware issue with my Ipod Charger.

Hello Apple community! I am having a issue with charging my 3rd Gen 64GB I Touch. I used to get an error where it wouldn't allow me to charge due to the accessory not being compatible to the i Touch (I used 3 different Apple Charger, Apple brand, etc) Now I can't charge it at all, its basically a broken Ipod. Im furious about this because I don't have a warranty despite this being a hardware issue. I went to look at Apple support but it said I had to pay $30 to call/email. I think thats ridiculous! I have an issue with my device and I should be able to call for FREE. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could get this expensive device fixed? I have no APPLE Store near me to go to.

    - Have you tried a reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Tried a different cable?
    - Looked at the dock connector on the iPod. look for abnormalities like bent or corrode contacts, foreign material and crack or broken plastic.

  • Camcorder video importation - think it's a hardware issue

    Hi All,
I am trying to import video from my camcorder (Sony DCR-HC90 NTSC) and am unable to. I think it might be a hardware issue, but I wanted to see if I've ruled out all other possibilities first before going down that route. (Unfortunately, none of the other sufficiently relevant forum postings I've been able to find seem to come to a resolution.)
    Here are the relevant facts:
    * I am using the Belkin 9-pin to 4-pin Firewire 800/400 Cable that I purchased at a nearby Apple Store. I did verify that the cable can be used to import video from the camcorder to one of the iMacs in the store. (So, the ends fit correctly, etc.)
    * When I try to connect my own iMac to my Camcorder, literally nothing happens. (It seems to not recognize that there is a device there).
    * I tried toggling the modes on the camcorder (e.g., Play/Edit mode, Tape mode, etc.), but nothing seems to happen.
    * When I open up iMovie, the only camera it lists from where I can import video is the built in iSight. (No other options are available for selection.)
    * As an independent check, I also opened up iChat, and it too did not list the camcorder either (I toggled the camcorder moves between record, play/edit, etc.)
    * I went to utilities -> System Profiler -> FireWire and it does not list my camera as among the devices (no devices are listed).
    * My camcorder doesn't display a message like DV Out or anything.
Have I exhausted the list of things I can try? I realize that this general topic has been covered in the past, but I haven't been able to find a conclusive thread that identified it as a hardware problem (in the threads I've seen, either the problem is resolved through some obvious step or the thread just seems to die without a conclusion.)
Thanks again for your time! Let me know if there is more information I can provide. I am fairly technically savvy, but I am most certainly a newbie when it comes to a Mac. So, any advice (no matter how basic or brain dead obvious) would be tremendously appreciated!

Thanks Ian and Appleman -- your suggestions are very much appreciated! To follow-up:
    - The firewire cable is in the DV port on my camcorder. I'm 100% sure it's in the right place since I have imported video from it to my older Win XP laptop for a couple of years without any issues and also was able to get importation working at the Apple store a couple of days ago.
    - I've tried two different 9-pin to 4-pin cables (both a Belkin one that I got from the Apple store as well as another one that I bought online). Both of these worked on the iMac at the store, but not the one in my house.
    - I've tried both having the the camcorder on AC power as well as on battery. Neither mode seems to be making a difference. (In the store, I only tried battery -- which worked.)
    - I unplugged all peripherals (aside from my keyboard and mouse). I also tried shutting down and unplugging the machine before rebooting it a couple of times to no avail. I don't have any other firewire peripherals that I've tried on this machine.
    - I've tried all permutations of running iMovie first and then opening up the camera as well as the opposite. I also tried other applications that might recognize the camera like iChat.
If you have any other suggestions, they would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm going to talk with Apple support as well.

  • Server 2012 fresh install - Running at a crawl. Possible hardware issue?

    Hello All,
I have recently purchased a used server and just fresh installed Server 2012 to evaluate it, and I am experiencing a issue with it running very slow.   So far nothing has been setup or installed besides the OS, hard drives, and a external usb drive,
so it is pushing me to believe my issue is hardware related.
First let me describe the issue more.   Basically everything is slow to load.  Control panel takes 20 seconds...  trying to load disk management and other snap in from administrative tools all take 15-20secs+ and first come up in
a greyed out window or the administrative tools window goes to "Not Responding" for a few seconds then loads it.
I do not think it is due to the fact the server is used with slightly dated hardware as it has Dual Quad-Core 2.66 Xeons & 16gb ECC Ram, so I was thinking their must be a bad piece of hardware in there?  Maybe bad ram?
Anyway I plan to start hardware diagnostics, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any insight or suggestions for me.  And to verify if this sounds like a hardware issue to you as well.
    Thanks!

Windows 2008 R2 that is on top of the list of supported operating systems. It is a good choice for some testing with M350 G5. Then you can test the in-place upgrade and application compatibility test will tell you, which component makes the problem.
If for example onboard NIC is not compatible, then you can use another NIC card that is compatible. When it is RAID controller (very often), then either use another RAID or single HDD (it is test only, not for production environment).
You can explore the virtualization path. Get know if appropriate hypervisor from VMvare is compatible with this hardware is also compatible with Windows Server 2012 R2. VMware forum may answer your question on virtualization. Working in virtual environment
    will provide some experience too.
Majority of current desktop equipment allows you for testing Windows Server 2012 R2. There are some exceptions, namely "high end game machines" that make you to find remedy for drivers (example
MAXIMUS IV GENE-Z - here is a need to adapt inf file for NIC, because of there is low end NIC on motherboard.)
For low performance issues use native tools like Performace Monitor and diagnostics - Event logs and Device Manager. For detailed analysis consider Sysinternals tools.

  • My 5s's data has been running dirt slow! Phone company says it's a hardware issue. Has anyone else had the same problem?

I've had my iphone 5s since Oct. Since I've had it, it will go through these periods where the data just slows to a crawl. So slow that I can't even access the App store until I get back around wi-fi. And this is in areas that I am recieving full signal and it's indicating that I have access to 4G. My wife has the same company, but has an iphone 5 and has not been having this problem. I called the phone comany and they advised me that it's likely a hardware issue. Has anyone had a similar problem with the 5s? If so, what can I do?

As silly as it may seem, I have had success simply turning my phone completely off and then back on again.  I was using an iPhone 5 on Sprint and would run into this issue a couple of times a month.  I would see the data indicator on my phone switching from 3G to 1x and back again several times over a few minutes while just sitting still.  This would happen regardless of whether or not I had a full strength signal or not.  (Remeber that if your signal strength is below 2 bars, dots, etc, you will not get great data speeds).
Try rebooting the phone.  If this does not help, pay close attention to the signal strength meter at the top of the phone.  If you and your wife are on the same carrier and it turns out you get different signal strengths while standing in the same location, you may have a problem with your phones antenna.
If these suggestions do not help, post back to the discussion.

Warranty and support is only valid in the country of origin.  The only exception being the EU where a device bought in any EU country can get warranty or service in any EU country.
Warranty is determined by device (serial number), no documentation required.
Apple does not repair devices, they replace them.  For that reason, ensure the device is backed up and any pictures take with the device are copied off the device prior to going in for service.

  • I have moved my sdcard over to my samsung brightside phone. but the videos can not be read. Is there anyone out there whom may have experienced the same issue?

i have moved my sdcard over to my samsung brightside phone,. but the videos can not be read. Is there anyone out there whom may have experienced the same issue? I also tried transferring my files over to my pc first, then reformatted the sdcard, then transferred to the appropriate files back onto the sdcard and put back into samsung.

Thanks for the info SuzyQ. lorsa, the community is correct, pictures and videos can be saved differently on other phones. What phone did you remove the SIM card from? Where did you purchase your SIM card from? Your previous phones SD card and format may not be compatible with your Brightside device. I show you advise that you reformated your memory card but make sure the files are saved correctly. Listed below are the different type of files you can save, receive, and view for pics and videos with your device.
Files that are compatible with the Brightside device:
    JPEG (*.jpg, *.jpeg, *.jpe)
    BMP (*.bmp)
    PNG (*.png)
    GIF (*.gif)
    3G2 (*.3g2)
    3GP (*.3gp)
    MPEG4 (*.mpg)
Please let me know if the information above helped with your issue. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. Make sure you always power cycle periodically. You may also need to peform a hard rest for your phone.

I'm experiencing major synchronisation issues on ICloud, especially for documents created on my Mac in pages, keynote and numbers. Contacts and agenda items work fine. I checked all my account settings. But while I can upload documents from my MAC onto ICloud, they don't show on my IOS devices (whereas previously this worked without issues).

On this Mac I did move all the visible iCloud documents out of iCloud, into another folder, then disabled syncing, exactly as you suggested.  But there were, apparently, documents remaining in my Mac's local iCloud store, "~/Library/Mobile Documents/" that I could not see (so could not remove). The Pages file "CSU-PD-UN1.pages" was one such document.
The act of disabling iCloud's document sync'ing, in System Prefs, just renames the local "iCloud" store to "~/Library/Mobile Documents/<appleid#>/" effectively shielding the it from the sync'ing mechanism.  Looking at this renamed folder (the screenshot above) revealed that "CSU-PD-UN1.pages" (and other files) had not been removed; it would be reasonable to assume that one, or more, of these "undeletable" files were related to my original problem, and when I re-enabled doc sync'ing, those bad files would just clog up the works again.
So I deleted them with the Finder on both Macs (the other Mac had bad files too, but different ones), then re-enabling sync'ing on the two Macs and doc sync'ing between the Macs (and iCloud.com) appears to now work as intended.
Sadly, iOS devices (iPhone and two iPad) now do not sync at all.  Newly created documents do not migrate to any other devices, and documents on other devices do to migrate to the iOS devices.
Your suggestions have certainly done some good, but something is now keeping my iOS devices out of the the iCloud doc sync'ing process.  I suspect it's a similar problem as the Macs had ("invisible" files gumming up the works), so I'm going to apply some nasty tricks to explore the iOS devices file system and see if I can find them, and delete them by brue force.

  • My I phone 5 hangs if I get miss call os 7.0.4? Unable to understand if it's a phone or hardware issue?

My I phone 5 hangs if I get miss call os 7.0.4? Unable to understand if it's a phone or hardware issue?

    Hi Nad1985,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone is unresponsive after missing calls, I recommend first restarting or resetting it:
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can find the full article with these steps here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If you are still experiencing the same issue, I recommend resetting all settings next:
Go to Settings > General > Reset, then choose Reset All Settings:  All your preferences and settings are reset.
    Reset iPhone settings

If the issue persists, the last thing I recommend is backing up and restoring your iPhone:

  • HT2101 My iPhone's 4 battery exploded. What do I do next? 1 year warranty period is over; however, this is a clear hardware issue which I didn't cause (didn't drop the phone, the battery just exploded while charging the phone)

I put my iphone to charge for about an hour. After an hour I found that the battery exploded. It literally exploded pushing the back cover off the whole thing. That is crazy... iphones explode?? what if this happened in my pocked and some nasty liquids going all over.
Please let me know what do I do next about it. 1 year warranty is gone but it is not my fault the thing exploded. Should be some kind of hardware issue. I found on the internet that this happens quite often.

I had the same thing happen to my iPhone but much less extreme. The back had popped away from the frame at the top, below the headphone jack. I tried to push it back but it would not stay. My first thought was that this was attributed to a bad/bloated battery. I took it in to my local Apple store where it was diagnosed as having a defective back. I brought up my bloated battery suspition with the Genious who instantly shrugged it off. The back was defective and that was it.
A new back was ordered and when it came in, I took the phone in for the back to be replaced. The new Genious went back to their service area with the phone, emerging a few minutes later stating that the back was not the issue...it was a bloated battery which had pushed the back off. They ended up replacing the phone under warranty.
Yours is very extreme since on mine, only one corner of the back was pushed away. I certainly hope you can get Apple to correct it without charge since this is clearly an issue with a bad battery and a dangerous one at that. Best of luck to you.
