Where have the X to close tabs in Safari gone? (OSX Lion)

They sometimes appear, and  then disappear again and in some tabs they never even appear at all?!

  • Where has the close tab in File gone, it makes life really difficult?

The close tab option has gone from the file menu. This makes searching the web really difficult. I wish I hadn't upgraded the new Mozilla.

Some menu entries in the main menu bar are hidden if you use the mouse and only appear if you use the keyboard to open the menu (Bug 626825).
You can see the difference if you use Alt+F to open the File menu or Alt+B to open the Bookmarks menu and compare that to what you see if you use the mouse to open the menu after you have made the menu bar visible by tapping Alt or by pressing F10.

the "X" to close tabs on my macbook is gone how do I get it back to work again

If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Safari:  Where is the small 'x' on tabs to delete them?

Downloaded Safari 5 and it is beautiful, fast, and works like a great browser should; even deleted all of Google Chrome. However, the one thing I am curious about is that the new tabs do not appear to have the standard 'x' on them when you want to delete that tab; you have to actually hover over the left side of the tab with your mouse and then the 'x' appears.
What was the design decision for that? It now takes and extra half-second for it to appear.
Like I said - just curious; otherwise very pleased with this new version!

    Hi Sol,
I'm not seeing any difference between the "x" action with tabs between Safari 5.0 and Safari 4.0.5.
The X appears quickly for both versions and I don't have to hover on the left side where the X appears. I can move into the Tab anywhere and the X appears.
Are you running low on memory or have some Safari Plugins that may be slowing it down?

To free up hard drive space the best bet is to move data files that you don't need access to all the time. Likely candidates are music, video, and photos. Things like word processing and spreadsheet files can also be moved but they tend not to be very large and so don't free up much space. The problem with moving the above mentioned files is that iTunes and iPhoto need to know where the files are stored.
Here's an article explaining how to move the iTunes folder. You can move the iPhoto library using the Finder but there is a slight complication. Start iPhoto, open the Preferences and click on the Advanced tab. The first option is "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". If this option is checked, copy the iPhoto library to your external folder (drag it from the Pictures folder to your external drive) and then delete it from your Picture folder. If this option is not checked, it is a bit more complicated and we'll need to talk a bit.

How can I customize the UI shell close tab behaviour? When i close the tab I ned to rollback the transaction else where when reopen the taskflow it show an error message duplicate key..
    So how i can handle?

Download the sample at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/issue-archive/2012/12-mar/o22adf-1518265.html . frank states -
The CustomerOrdersCRUD-btf task flow in the BoundedTaskFlows.jws workspace accompanying this sample, for example,
uses the tabContext reference to close the tab displaying the task flow upon rollback and commit—which also is when the task flow is exited.
In addition, when data changes are performed within a task flow, the tab’s dirty state is changed to indicate to the template that the tab title needs to be shown in italics.

  • Where have the charts gone in iTunes 11?

In genereal I like iTunes 11 but I can't find any top 10 charts for music, movies, TV shows apps or books! Where have the charts gone?

Thanks Poikkeus but I still can't find it! I assume you're referring to the music pulldown menu? There's no Charts selection in there. Maybe it's different for iTunes Australia?

  • Where have the Quicktime advanced export settings gone in Keynote 6.3?

Where have the Quicktime advanced export settings gone in Keynote 6.3?
In previous versions, it was possible to select numerous options and setting to export a high quality Quicktime video.

The new version 6 and the previous version 5 can both be installed, many users use both to utilise the different features. If you had the previous version installed and have not deleted it is located in iWorks in the Applications folder. If you don't have the previous version it is available from Ebay.

Go to Safari>Preferences...>General> and set "Remove download list items: to "Manually."
If that setting is "Upon Successful Download" the Downloads icon only appears during the download.
