Hi,
There is no gradient tool in Flash but there exist a Gradient Transform Tool (which is inside the Free Transform Tool, pls click and hold on this tool to view the Gradient Transform Tool) that helps you to modify/transform the gradient applied.
However you can apply a predefined/custom gradient from COLOR panel and saved gradients from SWATCHES panel. To Define a gradient from COLOR panel, you can choose Linear or Radial from Type drop down and you can adjust the gradient on the bottom of the panel using gradient sliders and color stops.

There are two color pickers - one is for solids and the other is for gradients. Here's a screenshot of the properties panel with the gradient picker icon highlighted.

I've gone from CS4 to CS6 and when using the Gradient tool, there used to be a properties box that you could open with a whole list of preset color gradients to choose from, i used to use the 'Black - White' one all the time, which kinda blurred the edges, made a transparent gradient and allowed, for want of a better word, montages to be created easily, but now this function seems to have gone. Is it hiding somewhere that I don't know about? Or alternatively, can someone advise me on how to get the same effect that the Black White Preset used to give me?

Yeah, those gradients are gone in CS6. On the one hand, most of them were pretty cheesy; on the other hand, it's a bit surprising they took away those presets but still didn't offer users a simple way to save gradients.
One way that you can save gradients is as Styles. As an experiment, I actually did this one day for the classic Fireworks gradients. Once created, styles can be saved as a library, where you can call on them from within any FW document.
Another way to quickly create a black and white gradient is by setting the fill and/or stroke colors, which are the basis of gradients. You can reset the default fill and stroke colors within the Tools panel. However, this can be tricky, at times, depending on what objects are selected and what type of fill they already have; it can be easy to accidentally apply a stroke to an object this way. Alternatively, if Stroke is set to None, then setting Fill to Black will result in a black and white gradient when you switch to a gradient Fill type.

Illustrator CS6 crashes ,on my mac, when I use the gradient tool. Any help out there?

The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Using the Gradient tool to change button text

I have had a request to change the text on a number of buttons on the website that I am maintaining. I thought it would be a simple case of cropping the text, editing this using the background colour and then pasting back in. The background colour, however, seems to be graduated so when I paste it back in, it doesn't match. What is the easiest way of using the Gradient tool to achieve this?

I see, the buttons are all pixels at this point.
That's still pretty easy...
1. Edit the text out of the original button by duplicating the part of the button that doesn't have text over it. You can just use the rectangular marquee and duplicate some of the gradient to the right or left of the text and move it over the text. It will take a little care, but it's pretty easy if you work zoomed-in.
2. Determine what font they were using through a site like http://www.whatthefont.com. In this case it looks like a pretty close match to Tahoma Bold.
3. Choose the Text tool and type the same text, then use the various adjustments in the CHARACTER panel to get it to match very closely. Looks like it needs to be horizontally scaled in width to 110% or so.
4. Erase that text then type the text you want.

Where is the Airbrush tool in CS5? I have use Photoshop V6 for over a decade and now I am using CS5 and cannot find the airbrush tool.

Now the next problem is, how do I get a solid airbrush - all I can seem to find are very bizare shaped brushes.

I used to be able to "turn on a lightbulb" using the gradient tool in CS5. How do I do it with Creative Cloud? It's not the same procedure.

I am accustomed to being able to "light lightbulbs" and make candle flame glow with just using the gradient tool in CS5.
Creative Cloud doesn't work using the same procedures.

Where is the Crop tool in CS6?

I used to use the Rectangular Marquee to crop an image, but that is no longer an option. Where is the Crop tool? I tried to use instructions at Photoshop Help | Adjusting crop, rotation, and canvas but that did not help. It never did tell you how to crop an image.

Why?
Make the Selection, then use Image > Crop if you want to use that Tool.
The Crop Tool still has the single-key-shorcut C, so depending on your settings hitting C or shift-C repeatedly should select the Tools with which the Crop Tool shares a space in the Toolbox in turn.

I am not sure what you are upset about, it's all right there in front of you nothing hidden. It is simply an option on the way the toolbars are displayed, if you don't like one way do it another or select customize and make it the way you want.
And I would think if you have been using Mozilla browsers that long you would have realized by now the toolbars can be modified.

Where is the layout tool in the score window ?
I've made a lot of studies about logic and I've come to now it quite good but when it comes to make a score for printing, I don't find the "layout tool"...
I'm in the score window, in page view, I've checked all the tools available on the top right side of the window but I don't find this bloody "layout tool"
Without it, my score is ugly and unhandy for my fellow musicians who have to read my compositions...
Please help !!!! I'm sure the answer will be depressingly easy but I wasted quite enough time on this problem :o(

Where is the Eraser Tool

Where is the Eraser Tool in Elements 11? I have been using an older version that has an eraser. I can't seem to find it in Elements 11. The Scratches and Blemishes tools seem to be very difficult to use and confusing.

Press E on the keyboard to see all three choices in the bottom tool options. You should see eraser, background eraser and magic extractor tools.

CS4 - Where is the 3D tool please?

Help Please! I am really up a creek. An employee from Adobe replied to me and sugg. I download the CS5 trial for 30 days (thru the Illustrator forum) and try that since it is a one time thing needed this a.m. for one project that needs to get out.
So I spent 3 hours doing that but when it finally got done, it said, 0 days left = expired. I've never even tried the trial version. I just don't know what to do.
Is there some way I can attach an image to show people what I am trying to do. I tried to use Illustrator and the Object>Envelope>Make with Top Object just made each part (even though all layers had been merged before bringing in... and I can't use the text option since the text was created by someone else on a PC and I don't have the text to try and recreate the whole logo)... all that did was make each part around a very tight circle and so I had a mess of circular objects radiating out from the center.
I keep trying warp but that is failing. This is a jar that is not a straight on view and I can't get to the arch part since it is greyed out and is not text. This is a jar that has a slight downward angle and so th straight logo needs to have a slight curve going downward and a slight allowance for the ends going around the jar. Is there anyone who can help me please? Even to access a trial 30 day trial to CS5 since this one is not working?? Is there any way to attach an image so I can show what I am trying to do? Thank you in advance for any help
