Where is the Library folder on HD

I no longer can access the Library folder. It used to be on my HD. When I create a folder and try to name it as Library folder it says that the name already exist. So... its like invisible.
Please help... this is bizarre.
thanks.

I found the solution on Google. For some strange reason my Library folder that is outside the user, became invisible. I found a program xRay, which finds it and makes the folder visible again. The program is only $1.99. The Apple support team suggested reinstall the operating system and reinstall all my software.
Well after debating for an hour or two I have chosen the the solution #1, the xRay.

Users are not qualified to use the library anyway.
When it's following the Windblows lead, there should also be an option to revert this, to be able to switch the hidden files back to visible. Haven't been able to find that option yet.
Furthermore, I despise your remark about users not being qualified. When I buy something I have all rights using any and all part of it. Whether that's a sensible choice for each and every user is a whole other question, but to treat all users as one dumb-*** group is not good (IMHO).

  • Where is the library folder in Lion?

where is the library folder in Lion?

I recommend all frustrated users to make LIBRARY permanently visible by following Tom Reed's instruction, namely, going into Terminal and typing the following command: chflags nohidden ~/Library   Otherwise, next time you need to access Library, if you are like me you will have forgotten the "Option-Go" trick
You´ll ask next: "but how do I access Terminal?"  If you search for "Terminal" in the Finder, it shows up.  Make sure the Search is of "This Mac"  and not "All my Files".  Once you see it, click on it and the terminal window opens up. The background inside the window is white and not black as sometimes pictured.

  • Where is the library folder????

Not sure why this is so difficult to locate, but I've spent 10 minutes trying already...
    Thanks for any help.

NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.  Also works with Mavericks and Yosemite.
For  Mavericks and Yosemite  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring up this window:

  • Where is the mail folder use/library in MacOS X 10.7.5 in a Mac Air?

I would like to know how to find the folder wher the mail application is storing the mails in the MacOS X 10.7.5
I know is somewhere in mail/ library, but I am unable to find it. Perhaps is hiden and I don't know how to locate it.
    Thank you very much.

Actually it's in youruser/Library/Mail. The user's Library folder is hidden by default in 10.7 and later, but if you go to Finder, hold down the Option key, and select the Go menu, the Library folder will be shown in the dropdown list and you can open it from there.

  • Where is the Services folder in Library in Lion?

I used Terminal to make my Library folder appear, but there's no Services folder inside. I'm pretty sure there used to be one.

Dan, there are two Library folders, one visible to all users, the other visible to the logged-in user, that is the one you do not normally see in Lion, must press Option/Alt Key.
You may have Services folder in both, as you may have other folders with identical name inside the Library folder. The difference is that one makes things visible to all users, the other to the logged-in user only, the difference being important if there are more users with the same computer.

  • What happened to the Library folder?

I did an upgrade to Lion this past weekend. Everything seems to work fine except the Library folder is not present. I clicked on two files from an email message and they showed up in the Mail Downloads folder, but I cannot navigate to that folder. All I have  as folders under "My Name" are: Desktop, Documents, Downloads, hob [?], Movies, Music,  Pictures. Public, Sites. Nothing else. Can someone enlighten me on where the Library folder might be?
    Thanks!

    Finder>GO  hold the option key
You can change back to visible

  • Photos in iPhoto cannot be found in the Library Folder on the desktop

I have a perplexing problem with iPhoto 6. A couple of months ago, I started a new Library and renamed it Current iPhoto Library placing it on the Desktop (rather than in the Pictures Folder).
I did this because my laptop became too full and I ran out of hard disk space. The original Library resides on an external hard disk.
I added many new photos to the new Library, inside of new albums.
My problem is that all the new photos seem detached from the Library Folder on the desktop.
They do take up memory, and now my laptop hard disk is full again.
But I cannot free up space because the Library folder does not recognize the existence of the new photos—even though while in iPhoto, with the program is running, I have no trouble accessing all the photos.
I tried DiskWarrior, assuming that there was a Directory malfunction. That did not help.
I tried rebuilding the Library using iPhoto's built-in capability, by starting the program while pressing the Command and Option keys. No help.
How can I make the Library Folder recognize all the photos that iPhoto can see fine within the program?

First, thank you for keeping up with me.
Second, where do look for Folder? On the desktop? iPhoto?
Third, in replaying what must have happened, I think I have an idea of what went wrong. Originally, I moved my first Library to an external HD to free up space on my laptop, and I started a new Library. Some time ago, iPhoto must have spontaneously created a new third Library. It left what I am calling the second Library as the only visible folder containing an iPhoto Library. I was able to mount the small second Library when I restarted iPhoto by pressing Option and selecting the only Library that was visible to me. When I did that, unfortunately iPhoto disengaged from the huge third Library it had created. All along the third Library was invisible on the desktop as a folder--which is why I got into trouble. I ran out of space again and wanted to move the contents of what I now realize was a third Library to another external HD. But I couln't find that Library anywhere. Strangely, for the last three months, I did not know there were three Libraries, only two. The one iPhoto created as the third one worked perfectly when I would start up iPhoto. But now it is gone. Not even DiskWarrior can find it.

  • Where is the extension folder for Adobe Bridge? (Mac)

I am trying to install the output module on Adobe Bridge. I am totally new to Creative Suite and photoshop. I can't find any information on bridge extensions at all. Here's the page I found on installing the output module- http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/install-output-module-bridge-cc.html
I downloaded it but after that is says to copy it into the extension folder. Where is the extension folder? Is it is Bridge? Is it in Finder? Any information on extensions is much appreciated! What exactly are extensions? What is the difference between the extension folder and extension manager?
    Thank you!

At first sight I can' see anything wrong about the correct locations you used.
There was no need to delete all workspaces but that also should do no harm I would think.
You once pointed at the bridge6.plist file but it is not clear to me what you did with it. Personally I would quit Bridge and delete this plist file manually and then restart with again holding down option and use reset preferences.
And you did also use the reset to standard workspaces instead of the reset workspace to only reset the selected workspace. I don't know for sure this will make a difference but it is worth a try.
And while you are in the user library to delete the plist file for Bridge also look in the folder caches in this library.
User / library/caches/adobe/Bridge CC and inhere find and delete both the plug in and cache folder, then restart Bridge.
Finally it might be also worth a try to download CS6, it should not be needed to do so but it was one of the earlier solutions that worked. In your ACC menu click on any app that shows blue and this brings you to the CC website. Choose download center and find PS. Click on the icon and this gives you the detailed download page. Inhere you can change CC to CS6.
Download PS6 it and install it (this also installs the CS6 version of Bridge which was not a separate download in CS6). Then try first start CS6 and start the AOM which is installed by default in this version.
Then when having used this once quit CS6 and try CC (or even combine with restarting your Mac).
Hope this helps, because I'm running out of options

How To Unhide the Library Folder in Mac OS X Lion

What are you trying to do?
If in the Time Machine interface you wish to restore something in your Library, type cmd-shift-g, then type ~/Library into the path field and hit Go.
If you are browsing the Time Machine backup using the Finder, I hope you never wanted to use that backup again as you are more than likely going to corrupt it to the point of it not working any longer. If that is the case, you can do the same thing with the Go to Folder command above, just use the full path to where your backup is mounted. The easy way to find the path would be to open another Finder window and navigate to your home folder on the backup. Drag that home folder to an empty Go to Folder path field and it will fill in the full path, then add /Library on the end.

  • Where is the Preferences Folder in Mac OS X 10.9?

    Hi,
I'm having some problems learning the new operating system Mac OS X 10.9.1. I'm looking for the Preferences Folder or the Library Folder for a User Account. Can anyone tell me where to fine it, please?
Thank you in advance of your time,
    Mel.

You can make it permanently visible by going to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update.

  • Ownership & Permission for the Library-folder look weird

Sorry for strange subject-name for the thread, but it's the best I could do . Anyway, I'm having a strange issue with my Mac. I was showing my wife how convenient Spotlight could be. She was logged in with her username, and I asked her to search for my name and... It found and displayed bunch of email residing in my inbox. Now, I managed to track that problem down to her having access to the Library-folder in my Users-folder (I guess that was due to us sharing a single iPhoto-library between us, but I'm not sure).
Anyway, as I was looking at the "Ownershi & Permissions"-area of Get Info, I noticed that it looks... strange. Normally it has those drop-down menus where you can change the ownership and rights of users to that folder. But not in my Library-folder. There it simply tells me that I can read & write to the folder, but it does not tell that I'm the owner. There are no drop-down menu's to be seen. If I open the "Details", it does not show the drop-down menus that are visible elsewhere. Instead, it shows two columns, first one labeled "Name", and the second one is labeled "Privilege". My wife used to be listed there, and she had bunch of privileges assigned to her.
Now, I think that this is due to ACLs. But every other folder displays permissions normally, why doesn't this one folder do? How could I make this folder behave like every other folder does, with drop-down menu's and all?
    1.25Ghz G4 Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

However, if you note the output of the 'ls -lde
~/Library' command in the post from "11-May-2007
12:21 PM", it can be seen that there are no longer
any ACLs listed for that folder, yet the "+" sign
persists -ie. there doesn't seem to be a way to make
the command relevant to this situation since there is
no index to refer to, so I didn't want to belabour
the point of the syntax error.
That's interesting... the only post from May 11 2007 I see is the one by Király suggesting the use of chmod -R -a ~/Library and the time stamp on that is 3:55pm.
The very next post I see is the May 19 2007 post from Janne showing the syntax error. And in that post the italicized section shows the exact same info (down to the time/date stamp) from ls that was originally posted by Janne. Because of the time stamp, I assumed that was a quote.
So is something missing from the thread I see compared to the thread you see?

  • Housekeeping and the Library folder...

I've just been browsing the library folder (system rather than user library) and have noticed that some folders are colossal in size... so can I clear out some of the files that I KNOW that I now longer require?
For example, in 10.4 there was no option to select which print drivers were installed, so I have 2Gbs of Epson, Xerox, Canon etc drivers that I will never use, as I have my own HP printer which I had to download drivers for. Would deleting that cause issues?
Also I hear that the language options (the same as the printer drivers) weren't selectable, so various versions of chinese, japanese, cyrillic scripts and arabic that I'm really not going to need... where would they be based?
    Many thanks,
    Ben

    "Would deleting that cause issues?"
    Nope. Trash 'em!
    "where would they be based?"
They're all over. YOu can use an app such as Monolingual or DeLocalizer to delete all localizations you don't need.
