Where is the new lens correction in ACR 6?

I see the new lens correction filter in PS CS5, although it looks a bit different than it does in some of the pre-release videos that I saw, but I cannot find it when I open up the ACR window?
This is all that I can find and it does not have the new features in it???

Hi,
The lens correction solution is not part of the Camera Raw 6.0 plug-in. It will be included in the Camera Raw 6.1 update.

  • Tutorials on ACR 6.1 new Lens Correction features

    Hi,
We are all experienced users of cameras/Photoshop/ACR etc., and wizards at learning by trial-and-error, but I think it might be really helpful if there was a good tutorial (preferably by Adobe), to deal with the new features of lens corrections in ACR 6.1, to take out some of the guesswork.
There are items to be addressed, like for instance, the difference between Default-Auto-Custom in Lens Profiles page, why the lens profiles seem to depend only on lens type, while in Photoshop they depend on Camera/Lens combinations, how to prevent double correction, and many others.
If anyone knows of such tutorials, I'll be grateful if they can share.
    Thanks,
    Moshe

The "Chicken Little" as you call it, isn't aimed at you, unless you want to claim ownership. It isn't mine either. The sky's not falling but there are a few heavy showers about.
I have taken the time and if you examine what I said, I am including the auto corrections in PhotoMerge as part of the whole. Particularly Photomerge at this point.
If you have taken the time to read what I said I pointed out that Lens Correction will attempt to correct the image if you ignore the warning that no profile exists. I couldn't know that unless I tested it.
If you took the time to read my posts earlier in the Profile Creator Forum, would would know that I actually ran tests on the Lens Profiler for the one lens in Adobe's collection I use, against the DXO output and found Adobe's correction way out of line. And to put to rest the notion I don't know what I am talking about, I have used this lens with architectural subjects and the barrel/pincushion distortion is very well corrected with DXO.
But then you are busy I'm sure and would not necessarily know or remember all that. Strange, you do recall just enough to give you ammunition to insult.
So bottom line for me is this:
Lens Correct is set unchecked. I'll look from time to time as more corrections show up, and if I find them satisfactory and at least equivalent to DXO, I'll use it. Why not? It fits the workflow so much better. And I'll come back and share my findings. So Lens Correction in ACR won't affect me.
Photomerge using Geometric Correction in Auto is a non-starter. I really like it better for some stitches than Reposition, but Reposition in CS3 is better than Reposition in CS5 (or 4) which is why I would go back to it.
Yes, it is complicated, complex even. What I am doing is simplifying it best I can so I can work at photography, not test and measurement.

  • Missing lens corrections in ACR

I have an old version of CS5.  The lens corrections in ACR are missing.  How can I recover them?

Then update your ACR version of 6.7.1.  That long ago you could still download updates and run the installer manually:
Mac:  Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh
Win:  Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows
I still have CS5 for test purposes, and this is what the ACR 6.7 Lens Correction interface should look like when adjusting a raw file, in this case a DNG:
And here is what a JPG looks like, which is the same, since neither file has a lens profile that can be found for it:
I can't take credit for either photo, as they both were downloaded from somewhere or posted to these forums as example images with issues.

  • The usual - Where is the new 10.5.8 for My Settings

The usual … Where is the new 10.5.8 for My Settings

Would it be possible to post a notice in this forum that a new OS version profile setting is available when the settings have been updated? This might help reduce the speculation but primarily it would serve as a reminder for users about keeping their profiles updated....

  • Where is the new update for N95 US Versions?

Where is the new update for N95-3 and N95-4? i have this two phones and i fell disappoint and mad becuz i bought this expensive cellphone and we have no support from Nokia.. this is no fair we are consumers like any other in the world. And the european model of N95 has a lot of updates and we r exent of the updates and support.. thats no fair my cellphone cost a lot of money and no support? only one update for year?.. my cellphone N95-4 compared to the European model is a garbage. Because the European added many things with update.. like autorotate and improve speed.. im about not to buy another Nokia because we have no support !! Nokia set aside the American market.
    THATS NO FAIR !!

Actually, it's the American market that set Nokia aside.
Nokia initially refused to allow network operators to customize their phones' firmware. Consequently, American network operators all but stopped buying Nokia phones. Nokia has since relented and does carry out a certain amount of trade in America now, but they're nowhere near as popular over there as they are elsewhere in the world.
Add their lower popularity in America to the fact that you all use different frequency bands from the rest of the world, which means a different set of hardware, and you begin to understand why the American market is a bit of a bugbear and why Americanised products are low priority. If American networks followed the same standards as elsewhere in the world you'd all benefit from the same updates.
Note that this is just personal speculation and not necessarily Nokia's official standpoint. I am not a Nokia employee.

  • The iPad is here, where is the new OS for the iPhone now?

Where is the new operating system for iPhone to go with the iPad?

My critiques of the iPad (in case Apple is listening)
    1) NAME
iPad? Didn't Apple do research to see that iPad was already a skit on SNL for feminine hygiene products? Let the non-stop mocking begin. Cancer research firm Enero 6 Corp. owns the domain iPad.com. iSlate is a much cooler name and Apple owns the domain iSlate.com according to MacWorld.
    2) LACK OF BUILT-IN iPHONE
If Apple wanted the iPad to be revolutionary, perhaps building the iPhone into the hardware would have made amazing jumps over other tablets and readers.
    3) MARRIAGE WITH AT&T
Apple didn't learn from the disaster of marrying AT&T and are likely continuing that exceptionally short sighted relationship, limiting customer base and interest since millions simply loathe AT&T - and with great passion - and will not leave their carriers.
    4) TWO SEPARATE DATA PLANS FOR iPAD/iPHONE USERS
Continuing with number three, Apple locks the iPad so that you must pay for wifi service. Is that in addition to your iPhone or part of the same package? Most likely different since AT&T charges per unit on the iPhone. Who really wants to pay for two different data plans to have an iPhone and iPad? I guess that's genius on Apple's part, they sell two items, though is there a kickback from AT&T for the data plans? Again, Apple limits their product line only to people willing to pay for one or possibly two data plans with one provider of service.
    5) MISSING FEATURES
Camera/iSight, iPhone, iWork & iLife. If they're going to market this as great for travel, why not include these functional applications so people can do work while taking the commuter train from NYC to Boston or DC?
    What else am I missing?

  • Where can I find lens correction profiles for EF 17-35 f/2.8L lens using ACR 6.2?

Using Photoshop CS5 Extended on iMac 10.6.4.
I'm  working with wedding photos shot by a friend but I cannot find lens  correction profiles for Canon EOS 20D or the EF 17-35 f/2.8L lens. When I  search online it simply says "No online profiles found". Is there a  download for older lens profiles? I checked & I'm using ACR 6.2. I don't have the camera so there's no  way to take test photos to create my own profile. But, shouldn't there  be a profile available; the camera isn't that old?

Go to DXO Pro and download the 30 day trial. It works very well for lens/body correction, and unlike Adobe, DXO maintains data on the older cameras and lenses. Updates will always have those available. Adobe is a latecomer to this part of the correction process, so as Ian said, no call, no supplier? Out of luck.
    http://www.dxo.com/intl/photo
It's fair to note that DXO does not necessarily have a complete line of everything, like my Tamron 28 to 75 isn't available as a module. They do pay attention to demands, or lack therof,  that are not mainstream as well. But their offerings are excellent, and the tests, professional.

  • Where do I find Lens Correction filters for old lenses - like the Pentax 28mm shift?

Using different lenses for photographing buildings, I found that the lens correction filter options in Photoshop CS6 work GREAT. Simply brilliant for the the Sigma  EX 10-20mm 4.5-5.6 wide angle zoom.
But where would I find af filter for corretcing my old SMC Pentax Shift 1:3.5 28 lens? And - if I find it - how will I install it in photoshop CS6?

You can download and install the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader and it looks like two downloadable profiles are available.

  • Should I clean the sensor before mounting the new lens?

Hello guys! Sorry for a silly question, but I'm not sure I know the correct answer. One of the cameras I'm using is Canon 5d classic, and it has some dust on the sensor and viewfinder (not unusual for 5di). I just got a new lens, and I'm wondering if there's a possibility for the dust on the sensor/viewfinder get inside the lens while shooting? Or I should clean the sensor/viewfinder before mounting? Or just forget about dust as dust will evertually get inside the lens? Thanks! I appreciate your answers!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Good advice so far....
    1. You don't have to worry about using your lens on the camera. The lens is pretty well sealed against dust, so any dust that's in the camera's mirror box is unlikely to migrate into the lens (it's more likely to migrate onto the sensor, but even that is low risk). There's no such thing as a completely dust free lens, anyway. A few specks of dust inside a lens have virtually no effect on images.
    2. You probably should take advantage of your CPS membership to have the camera cleaned and checked.
But you also might want to learn to clean it yourself. Some call the 5D classic a "dust magnet"... I just think it's got a large sensor for dust to get onto and has not got a self-cleaning feature as is found on later models. It's going to get dusty again, you can bet. So at the very least you might want to get a bulb blower ("Rocket Blower" is one brand) and learn how to use it.
You probably already know, dust seen in the viewfinder is generally harmless. It's usually on the mirror or on the focus screen and won't show up in images made with the camera (unless it manages to migrate onto the sensor itself, which is hidden and protected behind the shutter except for the brief instant when an image is being made).
If dust seen in the viewfinder appears sharp and in focus, it's on the focus screen. If it's blurred and out of focus, it's on the mirror. Unless you know how and have the right tools for the job, it's not a good idea to give the focus screen and mirror anything more aggressive than a puff of air from a bulb blower. These can be cleaned more thoroughly, but both are very easily damaged: The focus screen is optical plastic and can be ruined by using the wrong type of cleaning fluids on it. The mirror is front-surfaced with vaporized aluminum, so is very easily damaged. Aside from an occasional puff of air from a bulb blower, I recommend leaving the mirror and focus screen alone until you have a professional cleaning done.
A more serious problem to watch for is failing light seals. There are foam seals around the rim of the focus screen, which the mirror presses up against when it's raised, to keep stray light out of the mirror box during exposure. Over time those foam seals begin to degrade and can shed particles or even smear the glue holding them in place onto the mirror and focus screen. In general, cleaning up the mess, removing the old and installing new foam seals is a bit tricky, so  I'd recommend you have any foam seal replacement done by a professional. (Also, there are similar foam seals  elsewhere inside the camera that are likely to need replacement too, if the seals in the mirror box are going bad. A pro will know what's needed and have the skills to work deeper inside the camera.)
Time doesn't always allow to send a camera in for a simply sensor cleaning, so it's something you might want to learn to do yourself. There are two websites that discuss it in good detail: www.cleaningdigitalcameras.com and www.copperhillimages.com. The first is maintained by professional, independent camera repairers who also are suppliers to the repair industry and sell most of the specialized tools and supplies needed for sensor cleaning. The second is part of the commercial site of one of the particular cleaning procedures ("Copper Hill Method"). Both sites have good information. Read them thoroughly before attempting any cleaning yourself.
If you do decide to learn to clean the sensor yourself, some things you need to know...
Never use a common cotton bud (i.e., "Q-Tip") inside a camera. They shed fine cotton fibers that can get into and jam delicate mechanisms.
Check the manufacturer's website that any sensor cleaning fluid you are considering using is formulated and approved for your particular camera.
Any digital camera that's never had the sensor cleaned will almost always need a "wet cleaning" the first time. This is because there are nearly always oils on the sensor (actually in most cameras the surface being cleaned is a filter that covers and protects the sensor). These oils are excess thrown off from the shutter mechanism. Any "dry cleaning" method that touches the sensor will smear the oils and make matters worse. So a "wet cleaning" is always called for, first time around.
It's important to have the camera's  battery(ies) fully charged prior to cleaning and to work promptly, so that power to hold the mirror up and the shutter open doesn't run low allowing the shutter to close and the mirror to drop onto a tool being used for the cleaning. Professional cleaners often use a continuous power supply instead of a battery, to be safer.
It's handy to have a magnifying loupe and light of some sort to assist with the cleaning. When viewing the sensor from the front, keep in mind that the image is upside down and reversed. So, for example, if you saw a spot in the upper lefhand corner of your images, when viewing the sensor directly you'll find the offending speck in the lower righthand corner.
Usually you will need a variety of tools to do a multistep cleaning....
"Bulb blower cleaning" to puff away loose particles ("Rocket Blower").
"Wet cleaning" with approved sensor cleaning fluid and optical cleaning swabs to remove oils and more strongly adhered particles ("Copper Hill Method kit", "Pecs Pads", "Pecs Swabs", "Eclipse" solution).
"Adhesive cleaning" using a lightly sticky surface to lift off lightly adhered particles ("Dust Aid").
"Anti-static brush cleaning" to clear stubborn, remaining lightly adhered particles and to reduce any static charge that's attracting dust ("Arctic Butterfly").
"Individual speck removal" with a reusable, precision tool ("Speck Grabber").
"Final polishing" is always a last step to remove haze left behind by cleaning fluids  ("Sensor Pen by LensPen"). This also helps discourage dust from adhering to the surface again.
I've included some product brand names in the parentheses just as examples. There may be other equally effective products.
Most of the time I find myself using several or even all of these when I do a sensor cleaning.
    Cheers!
