Where is the "open in" function

Certain print apps say got to "open in" on the document I want to print.  Where do I see "open in"?

Not all apps have an "open in" option.  Which app are you refering to?

  • Why does the "open with" function often not recognize valid file extensions

Sample situation: I often need to open JPGs downloaded from the Internet in Photoshop, but I need to keep the default program as Preview.
When I attempt to open the image in PS using the "Open With" function (in the Edit menu), there are often no choices - it's blank, so I need to open it in preview and then save it as a PSD file to quickly open in PS. Other times I will get a list of other installed programs like Excel, and need to scroll down to the "open with another program" button, where I need to manually find the PS application. Of course, I can always open the file from within PS, but why is the Apple option so seemingly arbitrary from one similar file to the next?
There is often no rhyme or reason for the programs it offers me.
This happens with other file extensions, too.
    Is this a known bug?

It's up to the applications to declare what types of files they can open. They do so by storing the information in the CFBundleDocumentTypes section of the Info.plist file in the application's .app directory. If you know what you are doing, you can edit the plist file to add your own file types/extensions. Unfortunately, I don't know of a good application to do that for you (but it's not a bad idea for one, if I get the time).

iOS obviously allows only 10 Apps to be Chosen in The "Open in" function. How can I control which Apps ( if more than 10 are installed) can be selected?

I think that is influenced by the order in which the apps are installed on the iPad (I believe that it's the most recent 10 ?) - but as I haven't got more than 10 apps that support any document/file type I can't check.
If you want to able to edit the list, then you could try leaving feedback for Apple : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • The "open in" function in my iPad 2

The "open in" function in my iPad 2 does not give me the option to open in adobe.  Is this a adobe issue or an apple issue?

If you have Adobe Reader installed and are attempting to open a PDF, Adobe Reader should be in the open in menu. Sometimes it is hiding though and many people don't realize you can scroll the list in the open in popover. The interface is different on iOS 6, but Reader should be there too. Which version of iOS are you using?

  • Why do I get Error -1073807343 when calling the open visa function ?

    Hello,
I am running a Labview 6i under Linux (kernel 2.4) and I have Error -1073807343 when calling the open visa function. I have verified the name of the session (GPIB0::9::INSTR), and I can communicate with my instruments with ibic.
More informations : I use NIVISA 2.5 and nigpib-0.8.2. I have downloaded the lastest drivers of my instruments but it doesn't work better.
Thanks very much for your help.

We've had several NI-VISA releases since 2.5 - so I suggest you upgrade to NI-VISA 3.0. While there isn't anything specific to your type of problem in the Linux version of our readme.txt, I know we've made a number of other fixes.
While the most recent release is NI-VISA 3.1, I still recommend you upgrade only to 3.0.
This is because NI-VISA 3.1 requires the new NI-488.2 release for GPIB-ENET to be installed (even though you aren't using that product). This is due to some internal rearchitectures, and the PCI-GPIB product is not released. If you do want to go with NI-VISA 3.1, the new NI-488.2 release for GPIB-ENET on Linux will still work with the PCI-GPIB beta driver that you have installed.

  • Where is the "add link" function in Mountain Lion release of PDF Preview

Just installed ML. Opened a PDF using Preview 6.0 (765). Can't find the ADD LINK function. It is suposed to be in the Annotate menu, but I can't find it. Anyone know where it is/went?
    Should be:
    As-is (Preview 6.0):

    Good idea Matt on Pages.
Yes, looks like someone left something out of Preview and the person doing the help didn't know they'd removed some of the core functionality. Seems like more dumbing down of the OSX apps to be more like iOS apps??? Too bad.
Found an app on the app store called PDF-EDITOR that allows you to add URL hyper links to PDFs. Seems to work fine.

  • Where's the "Open Panel Vi"?

    Hi,
I am looking for the Open Panel Vi', which I found described in
    Help->Online Reference.
I know that it existed in Labview 4.1, but after upgrading to 5.0 I
can't find it anymore. So, can anybody tell me where it is located.
Is there anybody who did window handling' under LabView, like moving,
resizing, positioning, opening, closing, ... them? If so, I am
interested if you are using only all the vis which come with labview or
do you use a special (smart) vi library, which could be found at
    (->please send me that address).

The VI still exists, though it is there for compatibility, so that
older applications will still work. The new and improved way to
get at that functionality and lots more is the VI Server. You
will need to go to the Application
palette, the one with the LV
icon on top of a hand. Inside there you will find icons for getting
access to a VI's reference, wire that to a property node and select
Panel Window.Open. Wire True to open the window and False to close it.
As I said, there are lots of other properties, probably 20X what there
used to be; so things are now packaged differently. You will probably
also want to read a bit of the user manual and perhaps look at some of
the examples that deal with the server.

  • How do I open a PDF attachment using the Open In function from iPad mail

I Am trying to open a PDF document from my mail. In previous versions of the iOS (presently I am on 7.1.1) the open in feature of the email  re organised that you had an rhe adobe reader installed and allowed you to select this to open the document. Thiis no longer working for me.

The functionality certainly has not gone away with iOS 7. What do you see when you attempt this (and how do you go about it)?
Only thing I can recommend off hand is to try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • Where is the Genius playlist function in the 2.1 software update?

I have just updated my iPhone Software to the new 2.1 Version, have gone to use the Genius Playlist function and I can't find it. It's not where Steve Jobs says it is on the scrubber bar, nor is it on the playlist menu. Have also tried the settings function to see if you have to turn it on but there is nothing there. Have Apple forgotten to include it or is it hiding somewhere else?

Before you can use Genius on your device, it has to be enabled in iTunes 8. To learn more about this process, review the information in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2895.
Thee is also an article about understanding the Genius here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2978.
