At one time Apple use to put an Apple firmware on the drives installed into Mac computer. That is not the case anymore. And even if they did that firmware was just to indentify the drive as an Apple drive. Those same drives would work in any computer and any drive would work in a Mac computer. Same is true today. There are NO Apple Mac drives. Apple uses the exact same drives as any other computer.
Apple uses the exact same hardware as all other computers. Same CPU, GPU, RAM, Drives, DVD drives you name it, it is the same as any PC.
Good Luck but just because you go to a Mac-centric store doesn't mean it is any different then what you would buy some place else, other then it may cost more from one of those Mac-centric places.

Maybe because it's not a 'genuine' retail version? Many OEM versions just don't work - and I've no idea which flavor of Win7 your friend downloaded. Obviously one that Boot Camp doesn't recognize. Best to just pony up the cash for a full retail version, of some flavor - and use it. You COULD, of course, download the 14-day trial version of Parallels Desktop and see if you can install Win7 as a virtual machine... it might or might not work. Boot Camp just isn't finding the resources it needs on the copy you have - try Parallels and if that doesn't work just purchase a retail (or student discounted) version.

Instead of fixing the computer in an Apple Store, it is sent to a central refurbishment center and they fix anything that's wrong (other than damage to the case and/or display) for a flat fee of around US$325. Where can i get new install discs for my macbook 2008 alluminum model

I seemed the misplaced my discs for my macbook early 2008 unibody (silver), i just got a new hd after my old one died and need to install the OS obviously. I was wondering where i would be able to acquire some discs? I have got my sisters discs from her macbook pro from late 2011, the OS version is 10.6.3 but they dont seem to want to install, i get an error before i can begin the install that says something along the lines of "not able to install this software on this macbook".
Would i be able to buy the OSX snow lepoard disc from the apple website?and would that work perfectly or?

Cann i find such a piece online on apple site and order it or i would need to send my mac to apple "repare" center and wait weeks to get that done ?

Where can I get a case specifically for my MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

I really want to get a case/sleeve that really fits my MacBook Pro with Retina Display; however, everywhere I look only has cases for the regular 15" MacBook Pro. I want something that has a tight fit on my Retina. Any ideas?

Where can I get the Boot Disk for my macbook pro? Downloading OSX Lion is taking too long

I got a macbook pro that was owned by someone for a few days before. I tried to restore to factory setting but now downloading OSX Lion is taking forever with my internet connection. Can anyone help me find a boot Disk to speed up the process?

Apple no longer sells a Lion installation USB flash drive (they did at one time). SO you'll just have to wait for the download to complete. It's best to 'hard-wire' the download - not over wifi but with an Ethernet cable connected directly to your router. That will gain you some speed.
You could also try taking your MBP to a friend's home where they may have a faster Internet service. My download speed is 22+Mbps with my cable company - you may have a friend or neighbor who has something similar? Of course, you are always at the mercy of Apple's servers - sometimes they're just overloaded and a download that should take 20 minutes can take up to an hour and one-half.

Where do I find the serial number for my macbook pro

My computer told me I was infected with 6 bad viruses. An apple mac protection package wants me to sign up to get rid of these viruses. The mac protection package is asking me for a serial number for my mac. I give it the serial number listed in my apple information but it says it is the wrong serial number. Where can I get the serial number so mac protection can clean up my macbook pro??????

It sounds like what you're seeing is a malicious pop-up on the web. Do you have anti-virus software of some kind installed? If not, note that that's the only thing that can scan your computer for malware. A web site cannot do that, but it's trivial to display a pop-up in your web browser that looks very official, telling you viruses have been found and that you need to install their software to remove them. That's a classic malware trick... the software the pop-up wants you to install is the malware.
Can you provide a screenshot of the window warning you that you have malware? Press command-shift-4, then the space bar, then click the window. The screenshot will be placed in a file on your desktop. Add it to a post here using the camera icon in the post editor's toolbar. (Don't drag it into the post or copy and paste it... that will appear to work for you, but we won't be able to see it.)
