Which Apple MacBook Pro has the most RAM and HDD memory?

I would like to know this because I plan on buying a MacBook Pro and I just want to make sure I'm buying the one with the most RAM and HDD memory and not some other one. Why do I need specifically this? Because I'm a gamer; I like playing games. I'm a watcher too; I like watching movies. Last but not least, I would like to sync my iPhone to a device that's from the same company. I don't know why, but I guess it's because I don't like uncoordination, or something like that. In short, I don't believe in "clashing". Even electronics.

The Hardware In Any Mac is Exactly the same as used in Any PC of like model year and included hardware. i7 being faster then an i5 CPU.
Apple uses the same exact Intel CPUs and Chipsets that all other computer use manfacturer today. There is No difference.
Ogelthorpe is comppletely correct that Windows, by nature of the OS, is better for running games and the hardware it comes on, by nature of the way they are manufactured even though it is the same hardware as in a Mac, is better for gaming because of the way they are cooled and the overall case design. More air vents and better air movement across the parts that get hot while gaming.
Mac notebooks on the other hand don't cool as well by nature of the air intake and exhaust systems. Both air intake and exhaust are at the screen hinge and the fans are designed to be quieter then on most Windows PC notebooks. Even if Windows is installed on Mac that Mac will run hotter then a PC with the same exact hardware configurations. This is a fact and experienced by many Mac users. Including myself.
Mac fans run all the time. From the second you start them up to the second they shut down completely. I personally don't know of any Windows PC notebook that do that. My Dell E6420 with the exact same CPU and more RAM, 16GBs in the Dell and 8 in my Mac, with the Dell having 2 drives, one a SSD the other a Spinner in the media bay, and the Mac having only one Seagate XT series in the main bay the Dell fans rarely come on unless I am taxing the system in some way. They are not on continuously and certainly not when I turn the system on. So Apple has designed the Mac to run the fans continuously to try and keep the system cool from the first power on.
So your statement is completely false. But it is what most people think even though it is unfounded.

This is not true. The hardware is simply better on a Mac. Even when running Windows on a Mac, you'll have a far better experience than on a PC..

  • Who has the most RAM and is it worth it?

I am building a box with 24GB of RAM.
Anyone using that much and did you notice a huge jump from you had previously in the 12GB range.... in particular RED editors.
    Dual Xeon 6 core E5645 2.4 GHz
    GeForce GTX570
Areca 1880 2GB cache RAID control
    RAID 3
    seven drives
I am asking for a little more money so I can go from 12 to 24 and want to be sure it is justified with the 64 bit OS and CUDA... and MPE.
    Thanks!

    Orko,
RED seems to suck up as much CPU as you can give it, but does not really seem to hog RAM as much. Based on a test I just ran with CS5, I would think that 24GB should be a good choice for your system.
Using a 4 layer RED 4.5K project on my timeline, playback is using just over 7GB of RAM. Also when I do a "render entire work area" (useful if you want to scrub 4xRED layers or playback at full resolution) 100% of my CPU is being used, but only 7.4GB of RAM. Using AME to render the same timeline to DVD used just a bit over 12GB of RAM.
Note that I am using a single 6-core CPU with 24GB of RAM and I seem to recall that dual CPU systems may use more RAM, and possibly much more RAM vs. a single-CPU system (something about dual Xeon systems using separate RAM banks for the two processors).
    Regards,
    Jim

The software i use to play dj music videos cause for multi disply in which my Macbook pro has a single display funtion. Is the ant way to get multi monitor display added to my computer

If the monitor can be detected your Displays preferences should show it in its Arrangement panel.  You may have to play around with your Display panel to get the desired resolution.  And also may have to click detect displays and gather windows to see both sets of preferences on your main screen.

if you're not in a big rush - why not hold off until Adobe and Microsoft releases an update to support the Retina Screen.
Don't get me wrong - the Macbook Retina is a good and videos look great - but when it comes to Photoshop, it's a little blurry and the fonts in Excel and Word is pretty blurry too.....I own one....
In any event, if it's something you can live with - then by all means - go for it.....
Otherwise - get the non Retina Macbook Pro - it's cheaper, and it's user upgradeable in both RAM and Hard Drive.
    Good luck.

If you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them.  Let them deal w/it.

  • I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV?

I have an Apple MacBook Pro with 2 USB ports and a MiniDisplay Port. I also have an HDTV with a HDMI port. How can I use the TV as a display without any tethering wires between my computer and the TV? I have a MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter, but there are two issues with it: The new display doesn't have a VGA port, and even if it did, I wouldn't want to have my mac constantly attached to the display by a cable. I was looking for a way to use the TV as a display without any wires. Is there some type of bluetooth setup I could use? Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

As I wrote above, I think you should look into the Apple TV yourself. The best place to find information about what it can and can't do and to ask your own specific questions is probably in the Apple TV forum, here:

Was this a dark gray screen that appeared with the message to restart the computer in five different languages? If so that's a kernel panic. It would help if you can post the panic log: Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic. Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics.

The most frequent problem in an optical drive is a dirty lens.  Use a lens cleaning DVD, a few shots of compressed air in the slot or a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglass lens cloth) wrapped around a business card and gently inserted inside the slot.  If no success, the Apple store genius bar is the next stop.

My MacBook pro has been freezing up and giving me an error message.  I did the disk repair and reboot in safe mode for it, and then I restarted it in regular mode.  Still crashed and told me to hold down the power button to restart.  It seems to only do it while I'm using the Internet.  Any suggestions?

  • Buying a Macbook pro for the first time and i need your opinion

Hello everyone! I'm buying a Macbook pro for the first time and i need your opinion. I'm a Web Developer / Graphic Designer, and i need this macbook for my work. Currently i have these 2 options:
    1) Macbook Pro with Retina (13")
    128GB SSD, 2.5GHz Intel i5 Processor, 8GB Ram
    2) Macbook Pro i7 (15")
    Intel  i7 2.6 Processor, 8GB Ram, 750GB HD
So my dilema is. Do i go for the newest 13" Macbook Pro Retina & SSD drive or do i go for the 15" Macbook Pro i7 non-Retina, non-SSD hard drive?

    Your 2nd choice
    2) Macbook Pro i7 (15")
    Intel  i7 2.6 Processor, 8GB Ram, 750GB HD
is user upgradable. The Retina is not.
No matter what for your needs I would max out the 16GB of RAM

I recently updated my MacBook Pro to the new software, and now my iMessage and my FaceTime are not connected with my phone number like it is supposed to be. How do I get them to match so that I would be able to use my cellphone number on my notebook?

To reset any OS X program just go to the folder and trash the affected files.
    Open a new Finder Window
Click "Go" in the above status bar
Click and HOLD the "option/alt" key and you will see "Library" now show in the above list
Click Library while still holding the option/alt key and a new window will open with all of your system files
Go to the preference file (NOT Preference Panes)
    Locate a file named <com.apple.FaceTime.bag.plist>
    Locate another file named <com.apple.FaceTime.plist>
    Locate the file <com.apple.iMessage.bag.plist>
Drag the files to the trash
    Delete the trash
Close FaceTime and iMessage if not already closed
Relaunch FaceTime and iMessage from Applications folder
This should reset the program back to default. You will have to put your information back into the program but it should work.
    Good Luck.
